The Remains of River Country

We went to River Country in 1998, the last time I was at Disney. We had such a good time there. Loved the zip lines into the water. It was such a "free range" park. My parents would set up shop and me and my sister would just go off and do whatever.

Here are two videos where someone recorded themselves inside of abandoned River Country. The 2nd one has a posted date of January 2015.

Me & DH watched these videos last night, they were hard to watch as they're pretty shaky & these teens were being a bit annoying. I did see she posted another video that she's banned at WDW:

She totally needs to be banned just for being a bad spy, why would you use people's name, pics of your face & place it on your blog??? It seems disney told her if she takes the videos off her blog they will let her return to WDW.

So since DH & I watched this last night, tons of other similar types of things showed up. Has anyone else heard of these supposed Disney abandoned sites like Mowgoli's Palace? It's seems totally made up

Out with the old.
In with the new.

My bad. Thanks for catching that.

But they rehabbed Horizons, didn't they??? Turned into Mission:Space...?

They completely tore down Horizons and started with a completely new building and foundation for M:S.

If you read the comments she doesn't want to take it down or move it because of all hits and words of encouragement she is getting. The kicker is she still is paying for an AP on the installment plan.

She seems to be taking the attitude that she really doesn't even like WDW. So there.

She will regret it in a few years when she sheds her teenage brain, gets married and has kids and can't bring them to WDW!

I kind of wanted to see an alligator jump out of the water and bite them. :crutches:

I was thinking that this reminded me of the movie Chernobyl Diaries, where a bunch of teens went to Chernobyl and the zombies ate them. Was waiting for the zombies on that video! But we did have wonderful memories of River Country, and Discovery Island.

I told my DH that it would be cool to go to these abandoned areas, but I'd never risk it because I love WDW too much! This could be a big money maker for disney, The Tour of The Forgotten....

But then they'd have to acknowledge those places are still there...forgotten and rotting.

So they obviously know RC is there and wasting away. Does it get developed or forgotten? Seems like the wizards behind the scenes could salvage this area and turn it into something profitable and/or memorable.

Suppose they demolished it and returned it to its natural state, but nothing was placed on that piece of land. How would that enhance your visit? Is there some greater good that needs to be accomplished that will make us all sleep better at night knowing that an unused piece of land has been plowed clean as opposed to having an old water slide on it?

Yes, actually, it would make me sleep better at night - or rather make me feel a lot better about the whole situation.

Obviously, you were never there to enjoy it in it's height of glory?? Our family has very fond memories of River Country, and spent lots of days there during the years it was open. It was a great water park. Seeing it rot away like a ghost park is very upsetting and disgusting to us. We would feel much better without having to see the 'shell' of deterioration every time we ride the boat by and 'think' about what's going on there!

That also applies to 'any' place that is allowed to 'rot away' like that when it has once been thriving.
