Theme Park Express asked about this at Cabanas on the first Disney Dream Cruise out of Port Canaveral 9 August. The reason is because of social distancing for guests. They now have each station serving exactly the same items, so that guests can be more spaced out. When you enter Cabanas you are allocated a station for your food. If they can't make a particular item at all the food stations, then that particular item is not an option at any food station.

You'd think they'd prioritize Mickey waffles as an item to figure out how to include, because they're so popular.

Actually no, that's not how it works. I've worked for many years in the catering industry. In a situation like now, the main priority is operations and how to reduce guest congestion at the food stations. Everything is the same at each food station means better crowd control. It is most likely because they are popular, that they have been removed from the menu. DCL Catering operations manager would know that if Mickey Waffles were available at one station, then every morning there would be a crowd of people at that station, which is not what they want right now. They are giving the same food options at each station so that they dont have a crowd of people at one station.

As in so many things, what people want is not practical or logical from an operations point of view.

They should offer them at every station. I know they have the same items at every station. Makes no sense (except possibly from a cost-cutting perspective) to cut such a popular item from the offerings.

There is probably a very logical and practical reason as to why they are not being served at Cabanas. Right now we are in a pandemic, DCL main priority is the safety and well being of both crew and passengers. There may be a limit as to how many cm's can be behind the counter or in the cooking area. With a limited amount of cm's, the amount and type of food they can produce will change.

Its just amusing to me that people are going loco about no Mickey waffles with no understanding about why this decision has been made. I see a lot of foot stomping, I want my Mickey waffles wah wah wah and not a lot of thought of oh wait, maybe its because of health and safety reasons in a pandemic!!

Typing in a criticism on a Disney cruise discussion board is going loco? Are we supposed to have no negative opinions about DCL? Do calmly-stated negative opinions merit insults and rude caricatures? I think not.

Maybe it isn't those stating a negative opinion who need to get a grip...

That’s a little overboard, don’t you think?

We all know that we are still in a pandemic. We all know that adjustments need to be made to ensure the health and safety of both crew and passengers.

But to say “We just couldn’t think of a safe way to load every station with one of the cheapest yet biggest draws of the breakfast buffet, because COVID,” just seems a little off.

And we are not required to have a background in catering to state our legitimate guest perspective.

When we first started cruising we saw Mickey waffles all the time. Over the last 4 or 5 it has been hit or miss. The last two DCL cruises we took I had to ask if they had Mickey waffles and they opened a heating drawer and gave me one then closed the drawer back up.
I don't think not having them now has much to do with covid but that's JMO and could be totally off the mark.

I thought someone posted they ARE available, but only in the MDR.

Of course, they could have a waffle station behind the scenes and a way for people to request one and have it brought to a table. I get that that probably won't happen, but it's one of probably many solutions.

I agree. It makes more sense to me that the waffles are made in the back. They wouldn't need to bring it to the tables... it could be be distributed to each station when needed.

Even though my whole family doesn't like Mickey waffles, I can understand that a lot of people do. And it would make sense that it's one of their priorities.

I can't imagine a buffet place deciding on not serving one of the most popular item. They wouldn't have people coming back.

I think there must be another reason...perhaps the need for self serve syrup??:scratchin

Ppl that haven't been on DCL (or just once) won't ever get it.
I personally dont care about mickey waffles but if my DD found out they stopped serving them, she'd be devastated and would be even be open to cancel if a cruise didn't offer them at all..that's her favorite breakfast food. And I'm guessing it's the same for hundreds of kids.
It's part of the DCL experience. Some have other things that make DCL special for them and, again, ppl that haven't sailed won't understand. I'm a huge mickey bar fan. Take those away & the cruise isn't the same for me (food-wise)
What makes DCL so magical are the little things. You need to have sailed with them more than once to understand.

I think for me, it's not the fact that it's Mickey shaped that causes me to like them so much. It's the fact that they are much more fluffy in texture than the pancake and french toast alternatives. Those two have typically started on my plate being mushy on my plate but the waffle with some strawberry preserves on top or some nuts is a great start to me. Being at Cabana's is more of a convenience factor than anything

Yes. Actually experiencing the product (DCL) is important.

For instance, I have only done WDW once with my daughter and it was during a time of no Fast Pass. I can’t imagine telling a family who has gone annually that their feeling of missing FP was wrong when I have no personal experience with that as an option. I’ve read about it. I’ve watched videos about it. But how on earth can I say what my family would think much less anyone else’s?

A bit rude, don't you think? Especially considering the fact that you haven't even sailed on a Disney ship yet. It's amusing to me that you seem to think you're an "expert" on all things DCL from reading about and watching videos of other's experiences. Disney cruisers pay a premium for the Disney experience, it may seem trivial to you but Mickey waffles have become an expected part of the Disney experience.

I am sure DCL can afford more than one Mickey Waffle maker to hav at each station. Heck I have more than one for my family.

you are correct in that we don’t know why they are not serving them but When you take away a favorite item to many from your offerings it makes people wonder why. Sure waffles themselves are no great thing but they are a comfort food that’s expected on the breakfast offerings and right now with all the restrictions onboard having a familiar face (pun intended) helps to normalize things in this pandemic

No Mickey waffles. DGS loves them.
First cruise for him and he will be so sad. We kept telling him he could have all he wanted:(

It is just amusing to me that someone who also has no knowledge of why this decision was made has created a post explaining why the decision was made. Isn’t this the same thing? As someone with dietary restrictions, having safe Mickey waffles made for me in Cabanas was such a wonderful treat when I usually have to go without the food everyone else is eating. It’s a major bummer.
