I ate there in late March. Supposed to be dessert only (heh, can you tell I read the boards a ton and the UG?), but we ended up missing lunch that day, so we had to get dinner there. First off, it is a very cool place to eat. Great atmosphere.

Now, I'm not a fine food expert nor am I a food snob. I like good simple fare and I'm not going to notice whether or not my meat was walking around that morning or has been in cold storage for months!!
I'm no fine dining expert either. I'm picky as to what I eat but not picky about what it tastes like (i.e. I don't like beef, but I love chicken; I'll eat chicken grilled, fried, baked, etc. and be happy).

So, if I go without high expectations and just want a decent, palatable meal for my family in a fun atmosphere, will we do ok here?
My answer would be a big fat
NO!!! Run, seriously,
run,
do not walk, elsewhere. The only thing I have ever eaten at WDW before that I truly despised was the chicken nuggets in MGM's Commissary, but Sci-Fi has now taken the title of "Worst Meal in 8 Trips to Disney." I got the grilled barbeque chicken sandwich without the barbeque, and it was honestly one of the worst things I've ever eaten in my life. So says the chicken lover, meaning it had to be pretty bad. It was tough for one. Worse than that though was it didn't even taste like chicken-- all you could taste was charcoal. And I don't mean the aroma or that general grilled flavor-- I mean the equivalent of what you'd imagine chewing on a charcoal brick would be like.

Maybe that's the point of the BBQ... cover up the charcoal taste.

I had to go so far as to break off the ends because they were blacker than Mickey's ears and his other un-clothed body parts. Most of it looked like that, actually. Sundaes were nothing to write home about either. The fudge was good, but the ice cream tasted more like ice milk. And for $5.99 a pop, I'd expect more than that. To be fair... the fries were good as were the onion straws on the sandwich, my mom only disliked hers (we ordered the same thing) rather than downright hating it, and my dad enjoyed his Rueben sandwich.
Just fyi, when MGM closed, I went allllllll the way out to one of the gourmet McDonald's (the one near Universal) and got a grilled chicken sandwich there. I think it was $4 and it was 10x better than Sci-Fi's $14 or $15 one... that was just sad. Never did I think I'd see the day where I'd say I liked McDonald's better than a Disney restaurant.
So... I suppose I'd say try it once. You might love it whereas I have no desire to set foot in there again. Ya just never know. Hope y'all have fun!
