Pinocchio either plays this trope straight or just does Rule Of Funny depending on your view. The main character drinks and smokes and is sold into slavery as a donkey. The funny interpretation is that drinking and smoking makes you a (hmm). Or that you should get a good education or else all you'll be good for is hard labor. Or maybe "if you play now, you'll have to work later. If you work now, you'll get to play later." It's all a little confusing for kids.

We did Mockingbird in 8th grade and it was very good.

So the school board put the idea of having school on Memorial Day out there, since we need to make up days from missing so many days.

Northeners who moved down here, started having a HEART ATTACK. Northeners are big on Memorial Day... for obvious reasons... but it's an "eh" holiday here. IDC if we go or not. But, uhm, these northeners are pretty mad...
