The Pursuit of Disney Magic (June 7-14, 2008) ~ UPDATED 9/30 pg. 191

Great update, love the "no pouting in Magic Kingdom" comment, I'm the same way. Glad you got to enjoy your favorite ride, poor girl being terrorized by her father;) .
Loved your comment about watching fireworks in the summer with your family, I couldn't agree more:cloud9:
Can't wait for morepopcorn::

Wonderful updates!! Thanks for the warning about the filet at Kona. I have a fear of mushrooms, sad but true. Can't wait to see how your AK morning turns out!!

Melissa:flower3:

Loved the update!

I love the pic with Zurg. Both of the kids' faces are so cute!

I can't wait to try a dole whip float.

I am making a note to pack my hand sanitizer to make sure I stay in the running for MOTY. :lmao:

One of the few details I remember about our '97 WDW trip was standing on the corner at Main Street and the circle waiting for the parade to start, and little kids squeezing in front of us to sit UNDER the ROPE. Not only was it rude; it was also at their parents' encouragement. I was so frustrated. Didn't MY 5-year old deserve to see the parade as much as their kids? Chris had to lift Katie onto his shoulders for the rest of the parade. Revenge is sweet. I think he stood RIGHT in FRONT of the parents! :)

I try to stay calm while the other people are being rude and am constantly reminding DH that these people are probably here for the first time and are never coming back so they really don't know any better so please forgive them........ (all the while I'm truley seething inside...lol). Sometimes I just have a hard time containing the teacher side and not correcting the naughty little rascals!

Wishes makes me cry too, the combination of the fireworks and the music :cloud9: How cute of Connor to be concerned for Tink :goodvibes

I'm glad I'm not the only one who cries at Wishes. Great update! The Zurg picture is priceless!

Don't feel bad about Mother of the Year. I loose that title pretty much daily. I love the Zurg picture! And yes leaving at Closing is INSANE! We did it once and it was a nightmare! Oh and Wishes makes me cry too.

:goodvibes

Full Scale Fit? There are no Full Scale Fits at Disney young lady (or young man), depending on which kid or adult pitched the fit ;)

Haha- sounds like it's going to be fun to read!

Wishes makes me cry too. Before I had any babies I was at Disney and made a wish during the fireworks (corny, I know) Well it must have worked cause a few months later I was pregnant with Dexter. :)
Poor little Dexter wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Mickey's wonderful fireworks!

:rotfl: THAT IS THE BEST WISHES STORY EVER!!!

yummmm.... I'm drooling just thinking about them!

Add me to the list of teary eyes when it comes to Wishes! In fact, listening to the music in the car yesterday also prompted the same response

It's the Disney Pavlonian Response! Dole Whips = drool, Wishes = tears!

This ought to be good!

You are so right about the Disney Pavlonian Response!!! It works on me everytime!

Oh, it is a classic Disney story at our house now!

Picture of Connor is adorable and love how concerned he was for Tink's safety during the fireworks! Looking forward to seeing your fav picture of Chelsea.

Thanks! It comes on Day Six so you won't have to wait too long.

Why is it people lose all sense of personal space when it comes to parades/fireworks?? :confused3 Drives me nuts. And what are the parents thinking letting their kids practically climb on you?!

I would have been mortified as a parent, but apparently they didn't care since they never said ANYTHING to their child. :headache:

I get teary at Wishes too. So nice to know there are other Disney saps out there!

Don't worry -- there are lots of us!!!

I just heard about the Lunar Landings phone the other day... I am going to have to check that out!

Connor was so funny, because he thought it was a real phone at first.

Can't believe you're heading back to work August 1st! I'd love being out by Memorial Day but hate going back in August! I am convinced that I was meant to be independently wealthy and something has just gone horribly wrong!

Me too! :rotfl2:

Uh-oh... full scale fit... wonder who it is...popcorn::

One that already had a fit about the exact same ride...

great update and pics.

Thank you! :goodvibes

We got to see it when they were still testing it....I'm happy to hear that it's improved!

We got a kick out of it, but we are huge Monsters, Inc. fans -- I think we know the movie by heart at this point -- we own it on DVD and watch it everytime it comes on television.

Just tell yourself that they are loading a guest that was in a wheelchair and has to be transfered out into the ride vehicle....that's why it takes so long on those rides.

Yes, realizing that after SSE helped when it happened on the Haunted Mansion.

I've learned no matter the weather....Dole Whips must be eaten immdiately or you wear it.

Sadly, we were, but they were melting faster than we could eat them.

One word: Wrath!

Oh, trust me, I was furious at the parents -- the kid didn't know any better, but obviously the parents didn't care that they were all over us. :headache:

I had no idea about this phone! I have written it down in my notebook (disney dork, I know). What is and where is Lunar Landings?

It's that CS/Snack place right under the TTA and Astro-Orbiter.

My guess is you Jackie!

You'll find out tomorrow! :rolleyes1

Great update Jackie!!!

A night of the Haunted Mansion, Spectro, fireworks, and Space Mountain sounds perfect. Not to mention Dole Whip Floats!!!

Thanks! It was perfect! :goodvibes

Don't you just hate it when people try to squeeze in during the parade? Do they really think people stake out a spot early to have someone else practically sit on them? These are the moments I wish the Magic Kingdom wasn't dry.

We had been there since just after 8:30 for our prime spots -- it irked me to say the least -- I definitely wish that I could purchase a Lapu Lapu at the MK!

Cancel your breakfast ADRs at BOMA????? Hmmm something is telling me you didn't. I'm guessing you went to breakfast and then headed back to the MK.

You might be partly right! :rolleyes1

As far as the full scale fit, I'm guessing pre-teen Chelsea. Everything is drama when you're that age.

You're telling me! Tonight I was teaching the kids to play Canasta and she started going all diva on me!

I hope another update comes tonight popcorn::

Tomorrow -- I am on the every other day plan.

On a different note, I'm surprised no back to school sales by you.
NYC public schools (thankfully I no longer work for them and ended earlier) just ended on June 27th. It's July 13th and the sales have started. As I flipped through the Times this morning, sale flyers from Target and Staples fell out. I immediately threw those in the garbage. No need to be depressed on a sunny Sunday morning!

:lmao: There might be, and I might just be ignoring them.

Is Chelsea excited about starting middle school? It's such a big transition.

She is very excited!!!

Waterless soap?! Is that like the antibacterial hand gel? MUST HAVE!

I think so -- I am definitely finding and packing some for next summer!

Great update! Count me amongst the hordes who have said they love the pic of Connor and Chelsea trapped with Zurg, and who is also looking forward to your favorite of Chelsea!

I was never a fan of sticky hands either. My mom tells me I was always a very clean child and never liked to make mud pies or anything because of that. And during freshman year of college, my college has a "Mud day" during orientation week. I opted out of that, too--though it probably would've been great for my skin! All that exfoliation,

And ooh, a fit! Drama! Looking forward to the next installment!:thumbsup2

Thanks! I hated getting dirty when I was younger, too, but I told Chelsea that she could just lick the stickiness off her hands -- I didn't want to miss Spectro! ;)

Great update, love the "no pouting in Magic Kingdom" comment, I'm the same way. Glad you got to enjoy your favorite ride, poor girl being terrorized by her father;) .

Lesley

Thanks!

It's my new motto: No Pouting at Disney World!

Chelsea hates the Haunted Mansion, but I know she secretly adores her daddy scaring her, because she is always the one that points out it is a tradition for her to ride with Charles!

It has always been one of my favorite memories of WDW -- even when I was the little kid, and now I bring my children, and hopefully one day I will be there with my children and grandchildren!

Wonderful updates!! Thanks for the warning about the filet at Kona. I have a fear of mushrooms, sad but true. Can't wait to see how your AK morning turns out!!

Melissa:flower3:

Thanks!!! Make sure you are taking notes about the mushrooms -- they reappear later in the week!

YUM...a Dole Whip Float while watching Spectro. Sounds like heaven...:cloud9:

Love that pic of Connor!

It was heavenly!!! I can't wait to be doing it again!

I can't help but smile everytime I see it!

Loved the update!

I love the pic with Zurg. Both of the kids' faces are so cute!

Thanks! It was completely spontaneous too -- they saw those bars and hopped right behind them!

I can't wait to try a dole whip float.

If you love pineapple, you will love dole whips -- I bet you get more than one while you are there!

I am making a note to pack my hand sanitizer to make sure I stay in the running for MOTY. :lmao:

:rotfl: Katie is old enough to go to the restroom by herself though! ;)

One of the few details I remember about our '97 WDW trip was standing on the corner at Main Street and the circle waiting for the parade to start, and little kids squeezing in front of us to sit UNDER the ROPE. I know exactly what you mean! I just kept trying to focus on the magical feeling of Spectro and ignore the strange child's sweaty leg pressed against me!

Wishes makes me cry too, the combination of the fireworks and the music :cloud9: How cute of Connor to be concerned for Tink :goodvibes

Yes, Disney can masterfully tug at our heartstrings with their music!!!

Connor is my worrier (if that is even a word)!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who cries at Wishes. Great update! The Zurg picture is priceless!

Thank you! No, we all apparently boo-hoo during it! :goodvibes

Good update!!:cool1:

Thanks!

 I've about given up on winning it!

Full Scale Fit? There are no Full Scale Fits at Disney young lady (or young man), depending on which kid or adult pitched the fit ;)

Haha- sounds like it's going to be fun to read!

:lmao: Oh, it was amusing to us later on -- at the time, not so much. I was more like this  .

Full scale fit? Oh no! Looking forward to it in that sick twisted way that Mothers do, you know the "someone else has kids that do that too? Great! It's not just mine!" LOL!

where your normal life seems colorless after WDW, where you find yourself wandering the aisles of the grocery store wishing you could find gingerbread men in Mickey ears like the ones you bought at Goofy's Candy Co., where the evening seems empty without fireworks and a parade.

I'm going through that funk right now! I haven't been to WDW in 2 years and my last DL trip was in June (next one in Oct!:goodvibes) but I have to focus because last time I had a Disney trip remotely nearby I started daydreaming in class (not so good in college) and my grades were not magical:scared: So I'm trying to put it off until I finish my summer class, then I'll disneydream all I want!

I eagerly awaited the release of the 2008 packages and amused myself in the meantime with plugging in "pretend" dates to get quotes on various hotels and packages.
I'm doing that right now too! I just look for the same kind of price season and start looking for hotels to stay in and what not. Mind you my next WDW isn't until at least 2010 (January 23rd-30th!, yup I got my dates!) so this is horrible. I haven't even seriously started to look at restaurants because I have 3 other people to consider and its not even close.

Ooh, I can't wait to hear about the fit!!! Maybe it was Charles...popcorn:: did he get more mushrooms?

:lmao: Nope...but good guess...the mushrooms do resurface later in the trip.

Full scale fit? Oh no! Looking forward to it in that sick twisted way that Mothers do, you know the "someone else has kids that do that too? Great! It's not just mine!" LOL!

:lmao: I am just like that! There is always a feeling of relief when I read about other kids misbehaving and I think, "Whew! Everyone's kids do that!"

Welcome and thanks for reading! I am always daydreaming about Disney when I can -- while driving, while grocery shopping, while washing dishes! ;)

October will be here soon for you! What fun to go to Disneyland when it is decorated for Halloween! You'll have such a great time!

Your daughter going diva on you during canasta is only foreshadowing what's to come. I remember when I was her age. Everything adults did seemed to annoy me. Darn hormones! :lmao:

Can't wait for your next update popcorn::

Hey Jackie!! Love the updates!! Sorry Chelsea was having some very typical pre-teen/middle school/hormonal moments. I know you know all too well about the life and behavior of a middle school girl---some days NO FUN INDEED!! I started out teaching 7th and 8th, and those poor girls--up one day, down the next!! It is such an awful, unforgiving, horribly hormonal age!! I did middle school for two years, and realized I wasn't that good of a saint to deal with the middle schoolers all my life, so I headed back to my beloved high school seniors. I know some may think that is worse, but I think hands down you middle school teachers have the hardest job out there! God bless you!!! I hope you are enjoying the last remaining weeks of your summer break--I know you start early in August, so you are probably starting to crank back up into back-to-school gear! That is the one time of the year when I miss teaching the most--going back to school!! I am such a dork, but I always LOVED getting all my new stuff ready and getting my room re-set up for the new school year!!! Oh how I love the smell of new school supplies!!! I'll be thinking of you as you get ready to go back!!! Talk to you soon, Jen

015_10.jpg

Glad to see Chelsea's pout was put to good photographic use!

Charles and Chelsea rode together (the poor girl hates the ride)

I did too, until I was adult, and even then I sometimes closed my eyes!

Meanwhile, my poor daughter was being terrorized by her father, and I could periodically hear her muffled squealing as Charles scared her.

Charles sounds like my dad. LOL

I found myself crying during the fireworks -- I just couldn't help it! I love fireworks at the Magic Kingdom on a summer night with my family! )

::sigh:: :goodvibes
They make me cry too!

Great update!

I just read your last update!!! Chelsea and Connor are so cute!!! I loved the face painting!
