The Pursuit of Disney Magic (June 7-14, 2008) ~ UPDATED 9/30 pg. 191

Nice Binder! I didn't read all the banter back and forth that follows and maybe you answered this so forgive me if you did but do you carry that around to the parks with you? Or is it just during the pre-trip prep time and in the room? I am intrigued. I have never made a binder before. Might be kind of fun!

You are one organized gal!

Maybe she won't be like other teens and she'll want to hang out with her mom.

Maybe a happy medium between the two?

Thanks! :goodvibes

No, I don't carry it around in the parks -- I am one of those, take as little as possible type people. The binder is for all the pre-trip planning, and I take it with us for the room.

It's lots of fun to make one -- I have thoroughly enjoyed that project.

It's been a crazy-busy week -- between the end of the school year nearing, and a million things on the calendar this week, it's been hard to be a dedicated DIS boarder. :(

Yesterday, we took the 8th graders over to the high school to tour. This is one of my favorite things to do, because it gives me a chance to see all the students I used to teach. In nine years, that is a lot of students, and my first group is now about to graduate college. :scared1:

I know teachers aren't supposed to have favorite students, but the cold honest truth is that while we are fair and treat all of our students equally, there are those that just become our favorites. We click with them, and we cry when we have to say good-bye. Well, I had a favorite group of students my third year of teaching. I taught 6th grade social studies and language arts, and they were the most phenomenal group ever. They made me want to be a better teacher. They were so great in fact that I moved up to the 8th grade the year they were there, and taught them social studies and language arts again.

Yesterday, I saw many of them again at the high school. Now, instead of being shorter than me (I am only 5'2") and worshipping the ground I walked on as they did when they were in the sixth grade, and being young adults ready to embark on the best years of their schooling as they were in the 8th grade, they are about to be seniors. Seniors! Some tower over a foot above me and have facial hair and deep voices! Just yesterday it seemed I was standing in the lunch line with them while they tried to decide if they were possibly taller than me. Now, they are showing me prom pictures and telling me about their college plans. When did time start flying like that?

It got me thinking: if the six years since they were in the sixth grade flew by that fast, how fast will the next six years fly by? That means that before I know it, Chelsea will be a junior! She's ten now! So, while telling Charles all about my day, I started tearing up, because how can we bottle up the time and enjoy every minute of it???

Coupled with a feeling of time being the most fleeting thing in the world, and being overwhelmed with daily life, I had to get a Disney fix. :lmao:

So, today, I went on disneyshopping and they are having a huge sale on swimsuits. Without even thinking, I bought new swim trunks for Connor, and the Tinker Bell tankini with matching beach bag and silver flip flops for myself. Really the prices couldn't be beat and we both needed new swimwear.

Also, while grocery shopping today, I HAD to buy the Indiana Jones ice cream sandwiches. I needed that comfort food, and boy, let me tell you, it comforts!

Trace Adkins - You're Gonna Miss This Lyrics

She was staring out the window of that SUV
Complaning, saying "I can't wait to turn 18"
She said "I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules"
Mamma put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said "I was just like you"

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her "It's a nice place"
She says "It'll do for now"
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says "Baby, just slow down"

Cause you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
She keeps apologizin'
He says "They don't bother me.
I've got 2 babies of my own.
One's 36, one's 23.
Huh, it's hard to believe, but ...

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this"

Have a good cry....;)

Jordan,

Thank you -- I needed a good cry tonight. When I can get up the nerve, I will have to go listen to it on iTunes. Right now, I am pulling myself together -- because that song -- what a perfect mirror to all my thoughts these last couple of days!

Now, I need to go find some kleenex and maybe another ice cream sandwich.

And another look at Harrison?

I know exactly what you mean. While college is far off for my students, I'm sad to see them leave kindergarten behind and head to first grade. Even though I want summer to hurry up and get here, I know I'll miss my students.

As for Chelsea, just enjoy every minute now.

Indiana Jones and ice cream. What a great combo :thumbsup2

Just when the puffiness was beginning to abate...forget wombat, I think I look like Rocky Balboa now.

And another look at Harrison?

Well, as keeper of the ice cream sandwiches, it is only polite to say hi to him. :rotfl:

I know it -- I want summer to get here ultra-fast, but sending another group of students off is always bittersweet.

I want summer to get here so I can have a Grey Goose Lemon Slush and a Lapu Lapu

This summer will be the Year of a Million Drinks for me :thumbsup2

Boy is the above true...just had to pop in here and say I feel your pain. I taught HS English before I became a SAHM, and I still stay in touch with some of my "favorites"...and others I have lost along the way, but I still think of them all the time.

THIS is the secret perk to teaching. Low pay, pretend summers "off", politics, constant criticism, feeling like you're running in a hamster wheel...it is all completely worth it when you see those lightbulbs go off in some of those kids. And the tears when we have to say goodbye...YEP. Oh man.

Just had to say this rang true with me. :flower3:

I have been having fun looking at the Cloudland stuff -- it's so close and affordable, we could easily go there for a weekend. So, I think I am beginning to narrow things down: I want to do a weekend at Cloudland, the anniversary trip to WDW, spring break in NYC, Pop in the summer (maybe), and a cruise next fall (2009). The one thing I read this weekend that bothered me is that if I cancel the cruise I lose the deposit. :scared1: I have to be ultra-sure about that one before I book it.

Now I just have to find the money for all of that!!!

Wow! When I booked with Dreams Unlimited, I was told that you could get 100% back up till 75 days before the trip-otherwise, I wouldn't have booked it (and paid more than my deposit) already. So we figured that if we didn't have the $$ by next March, we'd cancel and just do WDW. I made sure of this before booking-2-3x. I plan on paying it off before March though. Maybe there are different rules for different rooms/days or months of departure, who knows! We have a cat 9, I think-it is a large port hole room. Prolly one step above inside state room, not sure. I just know we need a window. Some good friends are going next Feb, and staying in the same type room. If they feel like they needed to bump up, I think we will for ours.

Look into that...

Love your plans!!!-Lori

:grouphug: Sounds like you need a skittle hug. I hope the ice cream helped, if only a little. :goodvibes
