OOC: sometimes I forget how young these characters all are. I was reading DH last night, and then I read some of PS, and Harry seemed so innocent.
Amelia: After a class she took a letter to the owlery and quickly sent it.
Mum,
I'm well. It's strange to be back here, almost, after everything that's happened with the Azkaban breakout. I've noticed that there are a good number of students here that are lonely or shy or just different - they interest me, and I try to help them the best I can.
Have you been doing well? What about dad? He seemed a bit worried about things at home, but please let him know that the school has the Black situation under control. As far as I know, Yaxley hasn't any connection to Black except with his position.
There are several new courses I have decided to take this year, such as Ancient Runes and Divination. Divination isn't a very practical class, but it can be fun to predict just by using the insight of a person. We had our first Quidditch practice the other day, it was exhilarating!
Please do not worry over me. Know that I am safe here. In fact, Minister Fudge said that if anyone is in danger, it is not me (I met his daughter the other day,. She's not very friendly, but I can tell that she's not anywhere near what people tell me of her. By the way, would you mind looking up some books on white lilies? I would appreciate it, as she is very into flowers). The school's headmaster has given permission for creatures called dementors to guard our gates. They're quite defying, I must say, but I hope they'll come of good use. They aren't the nicest creatures, they feed off of happy thoughts, leaving the victim in a pool of their worst memories. For me it was that day, or the day dad was hurt. But we only linger in their presence every Hogsmeade visit, so we are not stricken often or for excess lengths of time. That's nothing, though, compared to what they could do - when the Ministry gives permission, I read that the Dementor is capable of giving the victim a so-called "Dementor's Kiss," an action in which the dementor literally sucks out a human soul, leaving them in a state consisting of merely pure existence - yikes. As I said, this is only carried out with dangerous wizards and at the hand of the Minister himself, but I cannot imagine how horrible a task it must be. Sometimes I wonder whether placing them here was really an effective decision. If Black had the resources to avert them once, and under high security at that, I can’t I can't imagine how lessened his effort might be if he breaks into Hogwarts castle. The only reasonable explanation I have come up with is that either he had resources there that are not accessible or that with our Headmaster, the protection has traveled to its furthest extent - which is the likely case, as I can’t imagine Black having any less resources no than he had then. Nevertheless, I am still enjoying myself and our regular activities. We are in no danger at the moment, I promise to update you as soon as anything changes.
Love you, all the best,
Amy
