DH bought a 1 1/4 lb shell steak today and it was 21.77! This was the tipping point for him to say no more beef. I will continue to buy ground sirloin to make Sunday meatballs but that will be it. Anyone else seeing these prices?

My kids love homemade burgers and that's what they usually eat after school at my grandma's. She says they better get used to eating chicken because the ground beef is outrageous.

It's $4.19 a pound here when it's CHEAP. It's usually $4.49. Craziness.

Don't get me started on steaks!

I have not been buying as much beef as usual. We normally had a good mix of beef and chicken throughout the week, but now it is more chicken and we will have beef maybe 2 or 3 times.

Luckily we have a local wholesaler, I paid $5.99, when buying 10 pounds. Stop and Shop was $16.99 not!

Yep!! A 3 lb beef chuck roast here where I live in the Mid-West now goes for anywhere between $4.25-$4.75 a lb and hamburger about the same price....most beef is out of sight price wise now...eating more pork or chicken, but those prices have been creeping up there too!!! Yikes....

We've been getting a quarter beef from a relative for the past twenty years or so, we are very lucky in that they only charge us for the feed, and the price still went from $4XX to $5XX. They apologized profusely, and I told them not to worry, it was still quality beef from a source that we knew for less than grocery store prices! (I was still nervous driving 225 miles home, though, with three coolers full of five hundred dollars worth of meat...)

I don't buy a lot of beef because we worry about eating too much red meat, but a local grocery chain had an e-coupon for $5 off when you spent $20 on their premium beef, so I thought that I would load up on a few roasts. OMG! I couldn't believe the price for a small eye of round!!!! The $5/$20 certainly helped but I made sure that I didn't spend much more than $20!

It's a good thing that we like chicken and pork. I just wish that my husband would eat seafood, too. I do a lot of rotating chicken-pork-vegetarian-pork-chicken-Italian (with a little beef)-vegetarian. I'm running out recipes!

A lot of it depends on where you're buying. If you're buying at Trader Joe's or Whole Paycheck--er, Whole Foods--you're going to pay a premium. But you can find deals elsewhere. Our local Aldi had Beef Tenderloin on sale last week for $5.99/lb. And even at stores like Trader Joe's you can see a big difference between certain brands of meat. I noticed last week at TJ's they had 4 different prices for ground beef, depending on what type and how you were buying it. Have to do your homework.

We still have 16lbs or so of ground from the 1/4 cow we bought, but it looks like my store has 5% for $5.99 a lb this week and sirloin tip roast is $5.49. Both are normally $6.99 a lb (non GMO pasture raised, etc etc). Seems a bit much, but there are only two of us and we can usually get 4 servings from a lb of meat but that does seem like a lot...

I stock up when there is a sale. Next week shoprite has boneless sirloin on sale for 4.99. So I'll pick some of those up. SAMs club had boneless ribeye steaks for 6.99 but you had to buy 5 pounds minimum.
Acme has buy one get one free on shell steaks

Thanksgiving traditional rib roast go on sale so I'd I can get them for under 9 bucks a pound ill stock up.

I'm the steak eater in the. Family so stocking up usually last foe awhile.

Dairy prices are what is scaring the Hecht outta me. 5bucks for a pound of butter are you kidding.

For ground, I'm paying $4.99/lb for 85/15 or 90/10 (same price).

Ribeyes run about $8.99/lb bone in
Sirloin $6.99/lb

I'm saving for a big freezer, so I can go to a butcher and get half a cow, and maybe a pig.

Fresh Market has the best ground beef, and it's $2.99 a lb on Tuesdays.

Organic chicken breasts are also that price on Tuesdays.

ShopRite down here had butter for $2 a pound this week. Must be a city thing.

When I see the prices of beef, I'm so glad that we own some hunting property and they DH loves to hunt. Last year, he was only able to get one doe so we ran out of meat last month. This year, he secured THREE doe tags so hopefully we can fill the freezer with ground venison, steaks and jerky. Unfortunately, we have to wait until the middle of November.

I agree with kristen we rarely eat beef at my house we do eat a lot of venison i dont know if it ends up being cheaper but it is a lot healthier than beef less fat and no hormones or antibiotics

Our Fresh Market has Ground Beef on Tuesdays for $2.99 a pound.

Whole Foods had their ground beef on sale for 3.99lb and their grass fed ground beef on sale for 4.99lb and I thought that was awesome. We just had the grass fed ground beef tonight for tacos and yes I could tell a difference, it was delicious!
