I was just discussing with another wisher how our technology is so mind boggling these days. We have cell phones that are MP3 players and cameras even mini computers to access the net. In the area of electronics we have such amazing things. I'm a techno cavepanda so it's all just amazing to me.

One area that cavepandas understand that keeps stumping our greatest scientists and researchers is the curing of our own bodies. We are still a long way from curing disease and a lot of ailments to the body. But our bodies are pretty darn good at it.

We have the power within each of us to heal most of what goes wrong. We can reverse heart disease and slow aging with the proper diet and exercise. But where we screw up is allowing ourselves to contaminate our bodies with chemicals that are proven, (I'll use proven but suspected is probably a better word), to cause us harm.

When we drink a drink that has nothing natural about it, just a mix of chemicals, that are not even regulated by the federal watch agencies, or pop pills that say on the bottle that they do amazing things what are we actually doing to our bodies? Everyone knows that smoking is harmfull and proven to cause a list of ills, but we still do it. Being over weight causes problems that we could cure just by losing some of it.

We have the power within ourselves to be healthy, strong and have sleek powerfull bodies? We just have to take responsibility for our own health.

What if your fairy godmother popped up in front of you right now and said "you can be as strong and slim and healthy as you want to be if you just want it". Would you say, "Oh Gee Fairy Godmother, that's real nice, but ya know I just can't seem to find the energy to go walking/running/biking,swimming ect.. every day and ya know I just can't stop eating to much so I better pass on that".

I know that sounds slimplistic but darn it, it is, we are all that is holding us back from having a healthy strong, sleek body and boundless energy. We already have the technology within us, technology that is so much more wonderfull than we realize.

I'm not vain enouth to think for one second that by saying this I can make a difference in anyones thinking. But we all reach a point where we have to make a decission to either change our way of living or face some severe results. When your Dr tells you that if you don't change you are going to die within a few years does it carry more weight?

Just for arguements sake, what if today you decided to stop drinking soda and started eating better. What if you made sure you got regular exercise and did your stretching. What if you made the committment to yourself that you were worth it. What if you went to your spouse and said I want us to start living a healthier lifestyle because I want us to have as many years together as possible.

Now here is the punchline, ya ready? What if you were already part of a group of people who would support you, would ya give it a shot?

Very nicely said.:thumbsup2

I have always been fairly health conscious because of a family history of early deaths from cardio vascular problems (heart attacks, strokes, etc.) and firmly believe that many health problems can be avoided through diet and exercise. One area that I've been getting much stricter with myself on is really watching out for preservatives and chemicals in foods. I try and avoide prepared foods, etc. because of the 'junk' in many of them.
That being said, I do like my wine....it's a fruit! :goodvibes

Yes Yes Yes, you are a wise princess. Wine is one of the feel good rewards that are actually good for us. Like Beer. Even these pleasures in moderation of course.

I really think that if you put hair balls in gel caps and advertised it to be the next great breakthrough in weight control people would buy it faster than you could make it. We are so technology conditioned that we believe all the claims of amazing results available if we just take the right pill.

How ironic! I was just thinking earlier today that I need to start weaning myself off soda, as it's probably my worst vice. All I drink is coke and water (I at least try to balance the soda out with water ;) ). I ran out of my stock in the refrigerator this weekend, so I haven't had a coke since Friday. I actually just finished drinking a glass of milk before checking the boards. I guess I'm two days coke free :woohoo: Thanks for the extra push Panda :)

You are on your way!!!! Have you looked at the ingredients in Coke (or other soda)! My DH is a Diet Cola fiend; really, he has a minimum of 8 diet sodas a day.:scared1: I've said all I can to him about what he's putting into his body, but it's difficult to keep quiet.

Yarc Panda - Yes, all things in moderation . . . even wine and beer.

Good luck getting him off the soda, that can be an expensive habit to if you have to buy it from machines at work.

At least beer and wine are based on a natural base, grapes and grains. I drink maybe a case of beer a year with Erica but when we go to Disney we tend to enjoy the adult beverages a tad more than normal. We really light the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat from the American place at Epcot. The English and German beers are very nice also.

I have seen several studies that said wine and beer in moderation are actually good for you, I've never seen a study praiseing sodas or any of the chemical mixes like that.

We work out of our home, so at least the expense of the soda is not much of an issue. There are worse vises DH could have, I just hate thinking of how many chemicals he's putting into his body.

Ah, yes...when we're at WDW, we also indulge a little more than normal in food and drink. :goodvibes

Obesity runs in my family, so after hitting my high of 212, I knew I had to change. I watched my mom struggle with her weight all my life only to see her go through gastric bypass. I didn't want that fate for me. I also have some photos from our first WDW trip with Nick's family that haunt me.

I started walking to/from work, switched out of bakery into seafood, then the clincher was the dbf going "Hey, let's do the WDW half!" Over the way, I cut down on my soda and sugar intake. When I was in school, my normal breakfest was pop tarts and mountain dew. I used to go through md like mad. Now it's primarily milk, water, and coffee (you will pry my caffeine from my cold dead fingers). I still have the occasional big mac, but it's just that, occasional.

I've been blessed with having a wonderful support in Nick and his family as well as the Disboard people. It's wonderful to have you guys here so whenever I encounter a problem, I can seek advice. I'm not at my goal weight, but I feel so much better. I also want to be a hottie bridesmaid for Mir's wedding in October.
