The popcorn cart guy almost ruined our trip!

It seems to me that some forget that this is a discussion board.

Main Entry: dis·cus·sion
Pronunciation: di-'sk&-sh&n
Function: noun
1 : consideration of a question in open and usually informal debate

Anyone care to wager how fast threads would die if no one offered an opinion. I agree that opinions should be offered respectfully and I try to do that but it would be really boring around here if no one ever offered a different point of view.

Thanks for the info, Webster! ;) I just think one can have a discussion w/o being rude, crude, insulting, snarky, condescending, sarcastic, harsh, etc., etc. Of course, having a DH who likes to stir the pot, I know "discussion" is really fun for some people... :stir: :chat:

This may be a discussion board, but in reality more times than not seems to favor the old debate boards wouldn't you say?

Gosh..haven't you ever had a "discussion" before when you were upset, and you didn't really want advice or opinions..you just wanted someone to listen and make you feel better?

I know I HATE talking to my mother sometimes about a problem because no matter what, she always throws her 2 cents in.

My friend will just listen..and lend a shoulder. Sometimes that's what you need!

I mean..if someone asks for an opinion..fine! But if someone is just venting then why does the fact that this is a "discussion" board automatically mean those that don't agree or find fault have to offer their "2cents"!

Probably because it is a PUBLIC discussion board and not everyone here is the best of friends?

Actually, since he threw it away anyway, you would think he could have scooped you out some and then dumped the rest.

Oh well. I say let it go and move on. There are far more important battles to fight in this world.

I DO realize that..I'm sure EVERYONE does. The point was..just because you CAN say something doesn't always mean you have to!

Why do you have to be "friends" with someone to opt out of saying something negative..ESPECIALLY when we are talking about a mother just venting over the hurt feelings of her child!

The Dis has always been a PUBLIC discussion board, but it hasn't always been like this!

Maybe the old debate board kept most of the negativity concentrated in one place..I don't know??

All I know is I'm not the only one to notice the change here, and it just makes me sad.:sad1:

I know it sounds dramatic, but my kids were really sad.

On our second to last night at MK as we were leaving the park my DS8 asked for some popcorn. On the price sign it listed that they took dining plan. So, we stood in a long line only to find out that they only took cash - which I had none. The park was closing, so we had to leave without it. DS was tired and sad. I know that being very, very tired played into it.

SO, on our last night... I made sure I had cash. We watched the last Spectromagic parade then rushed for the popcorn cart. DS danced over going on and on about how good Disney popcorn was. We got to the end of the line but were turned away by a CM who said the line was closed. DS started to cry. (Again, being exhaused played a big part of this.) We had to stand beside the cart to wait for DH. We watched as they scooped all the popcorn into a trash bag and threw it away. I begged the CM to let me buy some, but he said no.

What a way to end a trip. Not very magical. :sad2:

To be honest....I'd be more concerned about my 8 year old (!!!!) crying and fussing in public about a bag of popcorn, than about not actually getting the popcorn. I don't let my 5 year olds throw a temper tantrum if they don't get what they want....let alone an 8 year old. Way too old to be making a fuss about something like that. Heck, buy the kid a bag of microwave popcorn at the resort, tell him it's the same kind and he'll never know the difference. Certainly not worth putting a damper on your trip.popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

I guess you'll know on your next trip to prioritize, and buy the popcorn right away. I'm not sure why you just didn't buy it the second day as soon as you were in the park rather than waiting until the last minute.

Did she say her 8 year old threw a tantrum? I thought she just cried.

Sometimes after a full day at Disney I feel like crying. Ok, not really, but I know I am beyond exhausted on many days after Disney.

For GOD sake!! Where in the heck did the OP say that her son was crying, fussing and causing a scene?? WHERE??

For all you know the boy just got tears in his eyes, and a few sniffles! Why assume he screamed, cried and threw himself down on the ground?? To me THAT is a temper tantrum!

I think that's the point actually. She wasn't just "venting" -- she said it almost ruined her trip! I mean, c'mon. If my kid's trip to WDW was almost RUINED because they didn't get POPCORN, he'd have a good talkin' to.

I do agree with you about the debate board, to some extent. And I didn't mean to sound contrary, but not everyone feels warm and fuzzy all the time and if someone posts on a public discussion board, they better be prepared to deal with lots of differing opinions.:confused3

How many times do I have to say this????

The popcorn cart GUY upset the kids - NOT the POPCORN. My kids are not used to being treated like that. (I'm sure yours aren't either.) They were upset that someone would THROW IT AWAY instead of letting us BUY IT.

And, no they didn't make a scene. None of us did. We wouldn't even have stood there except that is where I told DH we would meet him after he took a couple of last pictures of the castle.

My problem is that this is their LAST MEMORY. This is what they came home telling people about first. Yes, they did talk about all the fun stuff too, but the FIRST thing they told Grandma, and Auntie, and the neighbors is about the DISNEY CM they they felt was MEAN to them. (I AM NOT SAYING HE WAS MEAN TO THEM. I am just saying that my kids thought he was.)

Might be better to avoid a snarky opening statement if you're going to scold others for their "rude, crude, insulting, snarky, condescending, sarcastic, harsh, etc., etc" statements.

I wasn't being snarky. I thought it was funny that you gave me a dictionary definition, as if I didn't know what the word meant. I could have been offended by what you said and I wasn't. I'm sorry you took it that way. And I was just posting my OPINION. Isn't that what many of you are saying is okay? Guess it depends on the situation, hmm??

I think everybody needs to go to their happy place. :cutie:

Is the Mickey ice cream cart open? Do they take DDP?

:rotfl: :rotfl:

I have to admit I HATE paying out of pocket for snacks when you have a card full of snack credits. For some reason we had the hardest time on the past trip at Epcot WS that way. MK is great about it (normally.) ;)

I'm sorry this happened.. :( We all want that last night to be extra special.. Can't believe they couldn't serve just one more person - but then again, I guess I don't know if they were under strict rules or not..

However, this is why I am always telling people they should carry at least some cash on them, but in return I usually get the "credit cards are accepted everywhere/we have the dining plan/we charge to our room card" speech.. They just don't "get" there are some places where cash is still needed - or at the very least, comes in handy..:confused3

Hope your next trip goes better! :goodvibes

I've been away for 4 days, I can't believe this thread is still going.

I'm sorry but this is plain wrong. You've already purchased the DDP, why should I not be able to use it whenever I want, provided its accepted there? If WDW is going to sell the DDP then all kinks need to be worked out.

For me to spend $40.00 per day for an adult and $10.00 per day for my kids , have credits left then have to pay OOP because someone says , sorry our machine isn't working, thats a bunch of crap!

Disney is sure laughing at that one. because you're paying OOP and going home with snack credits already purchased. And I know it happens often, because its happened to me also. I just pitched a fit and got the popcorn. Nope not a Disney thing to do, but I'm not double paying for items either.
