...excuse me for asking such a goofy (no pun intended) question - but.

I've never been to Universal and been to WDW and DL a whole bunch of times. My wife and I made a last minute decision to visit Universal this weekend (Friday) while we are down in Florida (Daytona Beach) on our 10 year anniversary.

So my question - I'm a vegetarian - specifically vegan. Does anyone out there know if the popcorn at UA/IOA is vegan like it is at WDW?

(...for those that don't know, vegan means no animal products what-so-ever, which in the case of popcorn would generally mean some sort of dairy product (butter, milk, cheese, etc...)

Any help would be much appreciated!

I have no idea...I know it's good. You would have to ask at the location.

I know my DW loves the popcorn and even made me buy one of those plastic popcorn buckets :lmao: :lmao:

I'm not trying to be rude or judgmental, but I've got to ask why you're a vegan. I had a friend that went vegan - but it was for a girl, not for anything he believed in. Another vegan told me it was just the way he was raised, but he hadn't really thought about it much. Another told me she felt bad for the poor little animals being killed. I've read a few things about it, but nobody can explain an actual/legitimate reason for it. I'm hoping you can help me understand it. Again - not trying to be rude or start an argument . . . just trying to understand.

That's cool, I understand. A lot of people don't get it. It's a simple question and for me a simple answer. I don't want to do harm to other creatures, be it humans or animals of any type, where it is not necessary. In other words, and of course this is just the way I see it, why do harm to or exploit animals when countless people are living proof that it's just as healthy if not healthier to exclude animal foods from the diet. Also, when you really think about it, considering you don't need to eat animal products to live, by eating animals you are killing / exploiting another being for nothing other than your own pleasure. I personally don't feel right about that so I quit doing it as much as possible.

I don't judge anyone for eating animals though, in fact I'm the only vegetarian in my immediate family... Everyone has their own beliefs - to each his own.

I don't know if thats "an actual/legitimate reason for it" but that's my reason. ;)

I hope I didn't open a can of worms here - but you asked...

Anyone out there know? Any lactose intolerant people or parents of lactose intolerant children??

I'm pretty sure that you haven't received an answer because we don't know for sure. My suggestion would be to email guest services at: guestservices@universalorlando.com They can certainly find out the answer for you. And in the mean time, maybe someone here might know the answer. I'd hate for you to go without an answer.

Thanks I appreciate it. I emailed them - hopefully their response is quick - I leave tomorrow at 11:30am. I guess if I have to I could ask at the popcorn stand. It just seems that more times than not, the people selling the stuff haven't a clue as to what the ingredients are...

They should know cause I use to work in a movie theater and we had to know due to at one time we use to use peanut oil and alot of people had allergies to it and then they went to using promise which was vegie based oil but now the powder they use for flavoring is another story can't remeber what that stuff was made of

To make sure, I'd stop at Guest Services at either park and they can call and ask the food manager.

You're safer on this site with your explanation than on other sites. On other sites, I've seen vegans get SHREDDED. Then again, the vegans on said sites often are/were trying to push an agenda.

I hope you get your answer soon. And ky07, I too worked in a movie theater. Every now and then a "no butter no salt" request would be made. The concession supervisor said to put seeds in the machine and let it run. It worked and the customer was happy. popcorn::

Please post if/what you find out as I know others have similar dietary needs. Thanks in advance!

I'd love to know too. I'm vegetarian and my husband is vegan (for the same reasons you listed). We know the WDW popcorn is safe (and DELECIOUS) but I'm not sure about UO.

 Never heard that one before. I know the "layered butter" was a common request. When I (or other concessionists) gave them the :confused3 look, it was explained simply: fill the bag halfway with popcorn. Add butter (or allow the customer to add butter if butter was self-serve). Fill the bag the rest of the way. More butter.

Hey, if it tastes good, it tastes good. I still miss the powdered flavorings they used to have for the popcorn. The popcorn stand in Marvel used to be the BEST in IOA. popcorn::

I got the layered butter request a lot. My biggest pet peeve was when we were busy, we'd pop like 2 batches back to back and have one person filling bags to put under the heater to make for quicker service. I'd always get the one person who saw the popcorn popping and *** for a "fresh" bag and wouldn't understand that it's all fresh cause we just popped it all. Then I'd have to get my hand burned by all the little hot popcorn pieces and some of the oil getting out of the kettle for them to have "fresh" popcorn. :headache: But that's just me! lol :rolleyes1
