The pool is open!!!!!!

Did it ruin anything this time?

We have most of our basement emptied into the barns. Just a few more things on the higher shelves to go. Hopefully when the spring thaws come around, we are safe.

nope this time I was smart. We dumped kitty litter all over the floor and put everything up on plastic shelves or in plastic bins if it had to sit on the floor.
DS13 and I just finished vacuuming and mopping and the blowers are on full blast now.

I will be so glad when we get some money to fix the stupid bulkhead door.

Oh no! We were worried about that too, but so far, so good...Fingers crossed it stays that way!

So sorry to hear that the pool opened again this year.. I thought we had closed that darn thing.. WE had a small leak earlier in the week but DH got it taken care of.. we patched it and drylocked it... thank gosh we get that stuff for a discount from dad.

the door frame around the bulkhead is dry rotted. I need to replace it but the bulkhead is pretty expensive.

Glad you got the leak fixed Nan, don't need to scrappy stuff getting wet!

UGH. My dad's house had a basement that leaked like a sieve. We had 24 couple through on an open house, with the basement full of water. Oddly enough, we didn't get one offer :(

Not good, and tomorrow it is supposed to rain heavily even more. :sad2:

Nice that DS13 helped you. I love that kid!

not unless he wants to climb up on the roof to fix the bathroom vent. and fix the bulkhead with no money. lol

I'm good, learning to do a lot on my own now.

we did that once. we specifically asked for houses with basements when we first moved back here. our realtor showed us a house with a dirt floor basement and stone foundation with about 3 feet of water in it. there was a spring that ran right through the middle of the house. we were like um....no.

I'm trying to picture it in my head. Can you fasten a tarp over it so that the rain runs off away from the frame? It'll be ugly and non functional, but maybe it will keep the straight down rain off some? Probably won't help much for the blowing rain though.

did that. I think it's leaking where the bulkhead meets the house. I may have DH fasten some metal flashing to the house and see if that helps. It's not near as bad as it was last year, we just had torrential downpours all day.

My grandparents had these huge metal doors on a slant leading into the basement. Heavy things they were. Always reminded me of what I thought a Midwestern storm cellar door should look like. [being from NY and all, Oz is all I had to go on] Is it something like that?

yep, exactly that. They are just about flat, maybe a 30 degree angle.
Then you go down the steps and there is vertical door that leads into the basement.

like this but where the grey color is around the edges of the door is wood instead of concrete. Only the side walls around the door are concrete like where the brick is in this picture.

another 3 inches of rain expected today....... I'll go to the naughty mat right away but I wish it were snow instead.
