As you can tell from the title, were a Pooh sized couple. Well go by DH and DW for this story. Let us explain the screen name first. Jazcat is a combination of our names. JAZ is DHs initials and cat stands for Cathy. DH is 29 and DW will turn 32 in September at WDW! DH is an IT professional and DW is a COTA. No kids yet, but were working on it. We do have three dogs, Milo, Frodo, and Chewie and one cat, Meggie.
DW went to Disney as kid. The combination of heat and crowds really turned her off. All DW remembers is the rude people and the long lines. DH had never been to Disneyworld.
When it came time to plan the honeymoon, all DH could talk about was a Christmas wedding (a story for another time) and a Disney honeymoon. Well DW would have none of a Disney honeymoon or the Christmas wedding. She was afraid thered be too many kids and not enough adult things to do. DH thinks it was the thought of doing one adult thing, A LOT, at a place for kids. DW smacked him for thinking this.
So were doing a cruise to the Bahamas and a few days in Florida. While in Florida we saw all the cheap Disney ticket signs at our hotel. We asked about it and they said we had to go to a timeshare presentation. The presentation included free breakfast. Free breakfast and cheap park tickets? Were in! They promise itll only take an hour and a half.
It took a lot more than an hour and half, as Im sure youve guessed. They did a good job on us too. We didnt but a timeshare that day, but we did buy a vacation through them. It was Westgate if youre curious. We used it to go to Las Vegas, fell in love with it, and bought a timeshare in Vegas.
Why Vegas and not Florida? It seems a curious thing started that day. You see, we would up with tickets to Animal Kingdom. We both love animals and picked that as our one park to go to. To this day its still our favorite. We went to AK that afternoon, after it had rained all morning. You all know what that means. The park was practically empty. We had the best time ever.
After that day, DW started falling in love with Disney characters. She became as fascinated with Disneyworld as DH. She started a collection of Disney snow globes even. Eeyore was her favorite character.
So we love Disney, but bought a timeshare in Vegas? We had done our homework. If we owned a timeshare in Orlando, theyd never let us exchange it for another Florida resort, including a Disney resort. However, we hadnt done enough homework to realize Disney had their own timeshare system yet. The Vegas timeshare would exchange just fine for a Disney resort, so we went for it.
Why are we rambling on about a timeshare? Thatll come up later. Suffice it to say we went to Disney World September 2006 for DWs birthday. It was the trip of a lifetime. Its a different story but this sums it up nicely:
Flash forward to April 2008. DH had become a disboards junkie and an avid listener to the Disunplugged. DW fell in love with the food porn thread. We were longing for Disney, but knew we couldnt afford it. Or could we?
We got an email from Mousesavers about free dining. We thought about it, and April 15th we sent out a feeler on free dining. After all, we were just curious. It would probably be too much, right?
After some discussion, we decided on some ways to save money for the trip. DW got a part time job on weekends. DH started doing computer repair work on the side for more money. We decided to cut back on expenses. DH loves going to movies, but he has to go to the Cineplex with the digital screens thats an hour away. Thats $20 in gas alone! No more of that. If he must see a movie, he does it at the $4 theater by our house.
We had a deposit on 5 nights at Pop by the end of the month. Just something small to coincide with DWs birthday in September, we told ourselves.
Yeah right.
