The Plaza Restaurant

I've been trying to get reservations for our trip in February, but seems there aren't any reservations available after Feb 15 (we arrive on the 21st). Good luck....

We tried for a Feb. reservation too. I think the reason that nothing is available is because the Plaza is closed for that time for a refurbishment. It starts mid-Feb. I can't remember exactly where I saw it.

I figured that was probably the case - but, I hadn't seen anything on that... thanks for commenting!!!

Ah, I recognize you from the Disneyland boards! Is this your first time going to WDW? Yes, the dining is quite different and so hard to plan so far in advance (a little annoying really). We just ate here 2 nights ago and they were only accepting reservations for the whole night. We thought the food was good, the milk shakes were delicious and we wished we had split one because it was the kind where they bring you out the milk shake and the extra container that they mixed it in that is the same size as your first milkshake! We were stuffed adn couldn't finish it all.

Another good option (for counter service) is the Columbia Harbor house, we have loved their veggie sandwich and have eaten it twice this trip already.

Enjoy your planning!

Yes, this is my first WDW trip! This is sooo not Disneyland! I'm very excited to see it, but frustrated at the crazy dining situation. At DLR, this summer we walked up to Café Orleans on the spur of the moment and had a great dinner. I just hope DLR never offers a dining plan like WDW, or it may become just as crazy.

I am allergic to fish and I thought I read someone saying Columbia Harbor House wasn't a good place for someone with fish allergies. I could be mixed up about that though. I did read that The Plaza was excellent above many other places to accommodate allergies. Fortunately, fish isn't too hard to avoid as long as I make sure it isn't hidden in the BBQ sauce or salad dressing.

After all these positive comments, I think I should add it. Sounds like a good table service that is close to CS prices.

Absoluty need reservations. Even during slow times ive seen CM giggle when guests come up for walk in.

The one and only time (so far) that we ate at the Plaza was a walk-up. We decided that we wanted to relax, sit, and not eat another cs meal. I went to the podium before they opened for lunch, and was able to get in. It may have been a fluke, and it was early November :thumbsup2

We really liked it! It was small and quiet and the food was good. Plus, it was very reasonably priced for a Disney sit-down meal!

Over spring break in 2012, we got a same day Plaza ADR....it was the only place we could get one when we wanted to eat. It was the year I didn't know to make ADRs so far out. It was good and definitely worth eating at and great service. They weren't pushing us out the door because it started pouring right as we started dessert and we were able to wait out the rain.

The past few summers we have been able to walk up to the plaza during lunch. Typical 30 min wait for a group of six. It is worth a try without the ADR. Always nice to have a break with a table service lunch during the summer months.

IMO, you will definitely want an ADR. The Plaza is very popular and quite small.

ITA, especially in June!

OP, the Plaza is a nice respite from the MK. We enjoy the food, atmosphere and have had good service here. Ice cream sundaes for dessert are always a plus!

The fries alone are worth making an ADR for!
Super crispy, thick and soft, hot and perfectly salted steak fries...:cloud9:

And the ginormous desserts are delightful too. ;)

Best fries at WDW. Period.

Oh, good! That's what I like to know! At DLR the best fries are at Café Orleans, but I have no idea where the best anything is at WDW. I'm glad I asked about this place. :goodvibes

We really enjoyed our meal at the plaza. We had great service, and the food was simple but very good. Everybody in our party was pleased, and the prices are very reasonable by disney standards. The fries are delicious and the desserts are huge.

They were also one of the most accommodating restaurants we encountered for food allergies.

Oh...those Cafe Orleans fries!!! The fries and a Monte Cristo sandwich use up my yearly fatty fried foods allowance...but they are so worth it. D:)

The Plaza's fries are different, but equally good.

I'm making my first trip to WDW next month and I'm super excited :) just got an ADR for the Plaza at lunch and I plan on having a cake delivered while we are there for my mom's birthday. As I try to piece together an intinerary for rides and such, how much time should I allow for 4 people to eat lunch & dessert at the Plaza?

Also, just curious... do the CM's sing happy birthday or do they usually just drop off the cake?

Thanks!

We are high-maintenance allergy diners (read: a member in our party needs special food prep, beyond the scope of a typical allergy) so we typically can count on two hours for a table service. However, we eat at the Plaza on every trip, and we are routinely out in 75 to 90 minutes. I would expect "typical" diners to shave 15-30 minutes off of that. :)

ETA: I really love the chips there. Also, while I agree you need an ADR and walking up isn't feasible, you really don't need it at 180 days. A couple of weeks out and you should be able to get a few options of times, still.

It shouldn't take you more than an hour. Since the menu is limited to sandwiches/salads things move pretty quickly.

We have gotten birthday cupcakes at the Plaza and there was no singing. I don't know what they would do with a cake.

OK, right on. Thanks. We're quick eaters (not to the point of inhaling our food tho haha) but I was planning on about 60mins since I'll have to run the leftover cake back up to the lockers at the main gate.

just made my first ADR for the Plaza today for our trip in April. Excited to eat there!

I just found out about The Plaza Restaurant and it looks like a nice place to take a break during the day. Do you really need ADRs there? We are going in the second half of June. I just hate filling up everyday with ADRs 6 months ahead of time. It seems like the kind of casual place you should be able to walk up and sit down. But I'm finding out you can't really do that at WDW. Any thoughts about this place? Is it worth bothering with an ADR?

We went two years ago in July and was able to walk up and get seated right away and didn't have ADR. So I would play it by ear but as other people are saying they needed one so I guess if you want to eat there you might consider one.

Other MK choices I have found are BOG lunch (we will do this one), Sleepy Hallow for a waffle sandwich, Pecos Bill, and Cosmic Rays. Plaza was the only TS that sort of stood out to me. I'm finding the restaurant research the hardest part of planning our WDW trip. :scared:

Hello Fellow Canadian, if only for a day! Just wanted to say good luck with the planning! I have done BOG for lunch and dinner, and Pecos Bill's and Cosmic Rays. Great choices! And I agree, the food planning is really the hardest part with WDW. Just wait until you get there and you have to figure out snacks too! So much to eat!
