I was just wondering how many of you are willing to tell people in real life that you've had plastic surgery? I have no problem with it - especially since people that know me would definitely notice the difference.

But for new people, I keep that info secret.

I haven't told anyone about my chemical peel and I wouldn't tell them if I had plastic surgery unless it was reconstructive.

I had breast reconstruction and an implant on the other side to even things out following my mastectomy. This was 21 years ago and cost around $10,000. Insurance paid for the entire thing. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't.

Wow - this was a surprise and can I ask why you say you wouldn't? Was it painful? Are there problems now because of it? Although vanity makes me wish I were a little more voluptuous, I would never put myself through the voluntary surgery (I had a necessary surgery that had awful complications, so I sure wouldn't volunteer for such problems). However, I always assumed I wouldn't think twice if I needed it as a result of a mastectomy.

It was painful to have the reconstruction done. I had to do the tissue expander thing and it was not fun. That, however, has nothing to do with why I wouldn't do it again.

Everything was great for about the first 10 years. After that, the tissue surrounding the implants begins to harded due to scar tissue. Yes, they say you should massage the area and it will help. It only helps a little. They are now very painful. Also, very few woman will stay the same size as you age. It's called gravity. Unfortunately, the implants don't sag at the same rate. I am now very out of proportion. I can't wear any type of sweater or shirt that fits snug because it is so obvious. Also, breast implants don't last forever. They all have a lifespan. My surgeon neglected to mention this at the time. Mine are now a good six years beyond their lifespan. I am just waiting for them to rupture, at which point I will get to have them removed. If it wasn't so expensive and out of my own pocket, I'd have them removed now. I saw a surgeon about it. Insurance will not pay for it until they rupture. The surgeon offered to waive his fee, but he told me the hospital and related costs would run me around $80,000. So, I wait. If they should rupture or if I were to have cancer again, the insurance would pay to have them removed.

This isn't meant to be a rant. It is just the honest answer to your question.
