I had a man with Orkin on his hat and nametag and clipboard stop at my house today offering a "good deal" on pest control. We've needed someone, so I talked to him. Then, he asked to step in due to the heat. That made me uncomfortable--what if he wasn't really with Orkin? I've NEVER had pest control come door to door. I stepped out and said "Idon't see your truck" he said it was around the corner at the neighbor's. I finished the discussion outside and he was showing me pics of all kinds of bugs, so I feel sure now he was on the up and up but he kinda scared me and I hate thinking about the what-ifs.

Anywho......does anyone know if $72 x7 treatments over a year is a good deal? I signed us up but didn't sign anything. They are treating indoor and outdoor for ants, wasps, spiders, and crickets. Never done more than a one time treatment before and I don't remeber the cost--long time ago.

I wouldn't have either.

I can't help you out with the pricing, sorry. We do have a contract with exterminators & they come every 3 months, but they are not Orkin & I have no idea what we pay them.

I think we pay $32/month but they only come every other month so we are actually paying $64/treatment. Not much different than you have agreed to.

It is pretty expensive but I will say when we have ever had any problems (one time we had fleas w/a new puppy ) and they came back and treated and retreated until the problem was gone (never any extra charge for them to come back in between visits).

Sorry he kind of freaked you out....it's too bad we have to be so suspicious of everyone these days. But you did the right thing.

I want an intercom for this reason. I just don't want to open my door to solicitors anymore.
That way you can talk to them and ask them to leave info on the porch.

Great idea!! I really wish we didin't have one of those doors with glass panes. They KNOW if I'm home or not. My kids come out to see who it is before I can say "HIDE"!!!!!!

That happened to us yesterday! A neighbor we can't stand came to our door & rang the bell. DD & I hid & DS8 just stood there in full view (we have windows on both sides of the front door). I need to put some type of curtains over them!!

Frankly I do not understand getting your house sprayed 7 times a year. That seems excessive to me.

I had a bug man who did it 4 times a year which was plenty. Our house was 3200 sq ft and he charge about 70.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Why 7 treatments? Why not 1 really good treatment? Not sure of our square footage--I know I should know--it's 4 br/3 bath/formal dining/study..............

be careful, i have never heard of them going door to door, did you see an orkin truck- tell him to leave a card and you'll give a call if he comes back.

We use a local company...they just came out today.

They only spray 4 times a year. I do think 7 times is "overkill" (literally)

We pay $40/visit. If I still see ants (spiders, etc) 2 weeks after they spray, then they come back for free to re-spray.

Since I am in a newer neighborhood, we do have companies that come around trying to drum up business. They usually park at the end of the street and walk from house to house, not drive. Not that I wouldn't be suspiscious too. It was not right of him to ask to come inside though. We've all seen Oprah...when they have men dress up as "the Orkin man" and he is really not and then unsuspecting women let him in their homes. Just listen to your gut instinct.

Call Orkin and inquire. I use Orkin, and they all use an orkin trucks. They are very professional every contract is in writing. I have NEVER heard of them soliciting business.
