Day Two - the one with all the cakes

Sunday 16 August (lots of photos - you may want to skip through :))

We were up early and out of the Etap hotel before 7 and with only a minor detour, we were on the route to Disney. It was already a hot day. We were at the Hotel New York by 7.30 and checked in straight away.

Dtr was almost bouncing off the walls with excitement by this time. We got our Park tickets and strolled through the deserted Village to take our place outside the gates.

Once 8 o’clock arrived we were first onto Main Street and Dtr danced and skipped her way down the middle, much to the amusement of a CM working there. (She's not really one-legged - that's just the effect of the photo.) :rotfl:

Husband turned and said “this seems so familiar, as if I have been here recently, not one year ago” – WOW! Even Grumpy felt like he was home!

We went onto Buzz first. Then second and third too. After those 3 rides we went to Space Mountain and then into Fantasyland and onto Peter Pan and Dumbo

before exploring Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.

We went to queue for POTC for rope-drop and were very soon riding around on what is still my favourite ride. I start to relax when I first see the Castle but I think my first ride on Pirates is where the shoulders really drop, as I realise “we’re actually here, now enjoy”.
Husband and Dtr then went on IJ, twice as there was so little queue.

Husband then suggested we went to queue up for Casey as it would open at 11 , as well as “La Pay de Doo-Dah” as he called it. That name stuck for the rest of the holiday, of course.

After these 2 rides we decided to have one more before heading back down Main Street – it was decided to make it Pinocchio.
At the end of Main Street, by the band stand, a band was playing Disney songs,

so we stopped for a listen and then went to the Village to get our tickets for that evening for Buffalo Bill’s. I had been daft enough to leave my Shareholder’s card in the car so we had to walk back to the HNY to get that.

We bought our postcards in the hotel shop (wanted to get those posted asap and then forget about them!) and then went to the Steakhouse for Sunday Brunch.

Minnie and Goofy were out when we got there and we also saw Tigger and Mr Smee.

It was not too busy so the characters had plenty of time to play about. Mr Smee was playing the piano and when he came to our table Dtr told him was good at it. He wrote in her autograph book “Captain Hook made me play and now I love it” He ‘asked’ if she played and she said she could play “Oh Suzanna” so he took her over to the piano and made her play it!

The balloon lady made her a balloon then Goofy came and sat with us – he tried on Dtr’s bandana and then tried to give the balloon to Minnie. Husband said he would tell Mickey about him and he made a frantic NO gesture, indicating that Mickey would punch him in the face.

The food was lovely too and all the staff were really nice – even when I spilt a glass of champagne all over the table and floor. Husband was really taken with the desserts – he ended up having 17 pieces of dessert! And I mean he ATE that many – empty plate. How is he still so slim???
It was time for us to go and get our room key. We were on the ground floor in a lovely spacious room with a French window, so that we could sit outside – although it was cooler in our room with the AC on. We unpacked, then Dtr and I had a little doze while Husband walked ‘all the way’ to the Village to watch the football.

At 6pm we went to Buffalo Bill’s.

Dtr and I had been in February and had enjoyed it – this time round it was slightly changed as the characters have now joined the show but still it was a great night. We were all quite stuffed from lunch still so I don’t suppose we did the food justice, but it was good fun anyway.
We wandered out with our blue BB hats on and entered the Park again.

We went first on Phantom Manor and then to Indiana Jones followed by POTC. We decided we would brave the queue at BTM, although it was showing 40 minutes. Despite the hour it was still very hot and sticky and standing in a queue was not particularly pleasant, but fortunately it was less than 30 minutes before they got on the ride. We had 5 minutes to find a spot to watch Fantillusion. I love this parade at any time but there is something special about looking round and seeing everybody in tshirts and shorts and still baking hot, even at 10.30 at night. Typical Brit – I find the warm weather a thrill.

The fireworks were a wonderful way to round off our first day in the Park. We walked back through the crowded Village, where people were still eating and drinking, sitting outside at tables. Back at the HNY we considered sitting outside with a drink ourselves but were more inclined to go to bed as it was now 11.30.
Even though this was a Sunday in high season we still felt we had achieved loads – we had been on 11 different rides for a total of 16 rides, had a character meal, seen a dinner show, watched the parade and seen the fireworks. We felt we deserved our sleep!

Fabulous trip report, so love all those cuddlies on the bed!
