The One Where I Go To Disney World for the Tenth Time

A warm welcome back to those of you who made it… to my third Trip Report.
I promise it will be chock full of photos, information, tips, and FOOD! We leave in 13 days and I was just too excited to wait until we got back to start this TR. I’m hoping that posting here will help pass the time until I’m finally in the Most Magical Place on Earth!

The willing [and unwilling] participants in this trip are me, DH, and two of our very best friends.

My name is Heather and I am a 28 year old Disney Addict. I will be turning 29 during this trip. My birthday is technically the day after we come home from WDW, but that is totally unacceptable because I don’t want to spend my birthday suffering from PDD (Post Disney Depression). So I’ve decided to move my birthday to an earlier date this year! You’re allowed to do that in Disney, right?

As mentioned in the title, this will be my 10th trip to Disney World. Seven of those trips have been in the last 11 years. I have also been to Disneyland once, for one day. I would love to go back there for a longer visit, but Disney World will always be my favorite place in the world (it may actually be tied with Kauai, Hawaii – but it’s just too close to call). I started counting down to this trip at 303 days, but I’ve really been waiting an agonizing 3 years to go back. I’m more excited for this trip than I’ve ever been to go to Disney for a few reasons: I’m going with three of my most favorite people, this is DH’s second trip so he’ll have a different perspective this time, this will probably be my last trip before starting a family, and most importantly- my Disney obsession has been growing exponentially since my last trip!

This is me in Disneyland last Spring

DH will be turning 30 in the fall. To my dismay, he is not a Disney Lover. He is not a fan of my addiction either. This is pretty much how it goes in our house:

Me when I’m talking, thinking, planning, daydreaming Disney:

You get the point...

He has been to WDW once before- on our trip three years ago before we were married. It wasn’t a trip he would have chosen, and he only went because I begged him. I was hoping he would fall desperately in love and we would become DVC owners and take trips three times a year with our annual passes, but that hasn’t happened (yet). If you ask him now, he says the trip was “better than he thought it would be” and he “had a good time but not a great time.” I, however, disagree. I think he had an amazing time. You be the judge:

He claims that he was coerced into taking this trip because it was 3 against 1. While I’ve loved every second of planning this trip, he usually doesn’t want to hear about it. We watched Savings Mr. Banks the other night (his first time seeing it and my third time – and he liked it by the way) and I decided that I’m going to call him Mrs. Travers from now on whenever he gets grumpy over my Disney talk.

Anyway, I think he definitely has a #DisneySide, even if he only lets it out on rare occasions. I am confident that he’s going to have an amazing time on this trip.

Our other two travel companions both love Disney. But they’re not on my level. They make fun of me and they find my craziness entertaining, but I am determined to turn them into hardcore Dis’ers after this trip. I told them about the Dis and about trip reports, and they know that I am writing this, but they have requested to remain anonymous and do not want any pictures of them posted online. I want to respect their wishes, so I will call them M and S. I’m hoping that M will read this one day and change her mind, and maybe even make an account and join the thread, but we’ll see.

For now I will tell you that M and I both teach math at the same middle school, which is where we met almost 3 years ago. We are very similar people, became fast friends, and she’s now one of the most important people in my life. She married S last year, 6 weeks before I married DH. Our DHs get along great, and the four of us always have a great time together. I expect that this trip is going to be a crazy amount of fun.

We will be staying at Art of Animation from August 7 – August 15. We will be engaging in 8 days of fun-filled park hopping with a table service dining plan. Our ADRs are set, our FP+ are reserved, and our suitcases are… Okay it’s still a little early to pack. But maybe next week!

The One with All the Countdowns

I thought I would share some of the countdown emails I sent to DH, M, and S so you would have some insight into my craziness and what wonderful, patient friends I have to put up with me. I sent them tons of emails, some long enough to qualify as guidebooks. I would include long explanations and tons of links - usually Josh’s stuff at easywdw.com. That website is amazing and if you aren’t familiar with it you need to go there right now. Run, don’t walk.

Anyway, when the travel agent calendar with the August hours was released and Josh wrote his park recommendations, that was one of the happiest days of the year for me. (See? Crazy I tell you…) Here is a snippet from that email. Note, I doctored it a little bit to remove names and protect the innocent.

Hi Everyone,

I'm passing along some magical reading material about the Wishes Dessert Party and the Dining Plan for your reading enjoyment.

Here's a review of the Wishes Dessert Party. People's comments at the bottom seem to be that they felt it was worth the $25 for the convenience of having a pretty good view even if they didn't indulge in the desserts. It looked like there was stuff that wasn't too chocolatey (S) or too interesting (M), you weirdos. The post was written before they changed reservations to 180 (+9 for us because we're VIP) and the new cancellation policy is 5 days in advance. I think reservations may still be sort of difficult to get, so maybe we have a better chance if we try for later in the trip.

Here's a post about the 2014 Dining Plan. A lot of the comments are that it's not worth it to pay full price. I'm torn between wanting to save every dollar, and liking the ease of just scanning the band and not worrying about prices while on vacation. People made fun of that mentality in the comments, but it's like paying for peace of mind. I don't know. I wanted to bring it up to see how you guys feel about it. I can be talked into or out of it either way I think. I'll speak for Bobby who I'm 99.9999% sure isn't still reading this, and say that he'd rather save money, whatever that means for the dining plan. We can all talk about it together.

And another one: Figuring Out If One of the Disney Dining Plans Make Sense For Your Group.

And now, my favorite part of planning a trip: The Crowd Calendar!
This is me when the Crowd Calendar comes out:

And then this is Bobby:
abut.gif

So anyway, let's get started. Here's the process:

[Lots and lots and lots of words omitted to keep you from falling asleep. I wrote all about how Josh’s site, crowd calendar, and recommendations work, and then I wrote an analysis of his analysis, and then I wrote even more… We’ll skip to the end now.]

Here's the link to the blog post:
August 2014 Crowd Calendar

And lastly, I've attached the excel file and will send soon a word document with some ideas for how we can spend our days so we're dealing with the least amount of crowds possible. Okay, and now for a super important disclaimer:

I spend time on this stuff because I love doing it, and not because I want to take over the whole vacation. I figure since I find it fun, I could do a lot of the ground work and we can use it to decide together what we want to do. These are just some of my ideas. If you don't like them, that's okay... I guess...
alice.gif

Just kidding :)
I think it will be really helpful if we can plan to be in the least crowded park as much as possible. But we should also do what we want. Duh.

Okay, that's it for now. Congratulations if you made it all the way to the end.

Have a magical day!
Heather ºoº

So now you’ve seen my crazy. I have to admit, when I first showed M and S my crazy I was a little afraid that they would decide this trip was a mistake and never speak to me again. But as it turned out, they liked my crazy! (Isn’t that how you know who your true friends are?) The real test will be if they still want to be my friends AFTER this trip! :upsidedow

Here are some more of our emails:

Can you believe these people I call my “friends” (not to mention, my husband) had no idea what “Totally Minnie” was? :sad2:
Let me know if you do!
Here is the link to the short.
Here is the full-length Totally Minnie Special! I can't believe it's on here. I need to wrap up this post quickly so I can go watch it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you're un-hip and will definitely benefit from taking a few lessons from Minnie.

We are 13 days away. That means in 4 days from now (Tuesday), we must all do the "Single Digit Dance." Bobby's dance is pretty evocative so I hope you get to see it.

On this date in 2007, this was the Final Jeopardy question: "A Swahili phrase, it means 'There are no worries here.' "
The correct answer: "What is Hakuna Matata?"

Since we are 13 days away: 13 years ago in Disney History:
-Monsters, Inc. is released
-The Sorcerer's Hat opens and becomes the Disney-MGM Studios icon
-Doug Live! closes at Disney-MGM Studios due to the show's cancellation from ABC (sorry Bobby)
-Animal Kingdom Lodge opens

Lastly: Disney History from 1913:
-None. Walt was just a kid!

And now we’re all up to date! I will continue to post live countdowns throughout the thread.

I hope you're right! If it doesn't happen on this trip, we'll just have to keep taking more until it does! :thumbsup2

Following. So excited for you ( and me, as DH and I will be at SSR starting on August 10)!

I'm so excited for both of us too!! We're both so close!! :hyper:

I can't wait to reach my 20-something-ith trip! That's such an accomplishment :thumbsup2 My past few trips have been at the very end of August (right around your dates), so I'm a little nervous to go at the beginning because I think it will be a lot more crowded. Are you going to write a TR?

12 Days!!!!

12 years ago in Disney History:
Journey Into Imagination with Figment opens in its current incarnation, featuring the song One Little Spark composed by the :lovestrucSherman Brothers:lovestruc

Side note: If you haven't already, you really need to see Saving Mr. Banks if you are a Disney fan, and especially if you are a Mary Poppins fan.
If you already saw it and loved it, then I highly recommend watching The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story. It was outstanding.

Lilo & Stitch premieres

DH is actually a big fan of Stitch. On our last trip, he made me get off line for Astro Orbiters and literally chased after Stitch to try to meet him. But he was on his way to take a break and DH was crushed. Yes, I'm talking about the same DH who says he doesn't like Disney :confused3

Subscribing! Can't wait to hear how it goes!

Hi! Thanks for subbing :goodvibes

You've been to DL over 100 times! That's crazy awesome! :thumbsup2 One of my closest friends moved to LA (Encino) a year and a half ago and she still has yet to go to Disneyland. I can't understand it! If I were her I would have had my AP in hand and been at the parks before I even unpacked a suitcase. :confused3

Yes I have an annual pass and have had it for years. I grew up with a cousin who was a castmember and who used to take me all the time with her. Now I go at least once a week. It may be overkill, but I can't stop myself. Particularly when I've had a long day at work I like to head to the parks for a sweet treat and fireworks. Everything always looks better from there!
