My DH cousin have the GBP and she looked at me as though I wanted her to chew glass when I offered sparkling water. I had no idea the carbonation was her idea of torture. She won't touch rice either, but I am learning :thumbsup2.

Your menus are always kid pleasers :yay:

Carbonation is bad simply because it can stretch out the opening to the new stomach. I do love my diet coke, and need the caffeine occasionally, so I'll open a can, let it go flat and drink it over lots of ice. Not the same taste, but it works. I can handle brown rice, white makes me ill. For the first 8 months after the surgery, I really wondered if I'd made a mistake as most everything was making me ill. I really had to re-learn how to eat. White flour pasta is not good for me, but I can do whole wheat pasta in small doses. Fish, which I used to hate, I can eat without any problem at all. Pork is still quite hard for me, so I tend to stay away from it, if I can.

Thanks for the compliment. I don't know if my kids would always agree with you, but I try to make at least one kid friendly meal once a week, and of course, on holidays!

Nancy, I refer to y'all as my friends too!!:goodvibes Bob's gotten used to it, DD & SIL think I'm a weirdo!

Nancy, My own Mom does not get why I always want to have holiday gatherings at our house! It's really not that I love to cook & clean for big crowds. But I do like to eat in the same room with my husband! :confused3
Every year holiday time rolls around & I have to explain again, how uncomfortable it is for Bob to have to eat alone in the den on a tv tray instead of at the dining table with everyone else! You would think our own family would get it by now, but nooo.:sad2: Sorry, starting venting & spewing venom there! Definitely an issue for us!

I can totally understand! It's not right to invite you and your family to come to a family gathering and expect part of you to have to eat in a separate room! Not cool at all!

I find that I like to have holiday gatherings at my house, as well. I enjoy cooking the food that I love, and taking small amounts of help from my in-laws (not good cooks!) in the form of store bought rolls, desserts, etc.

That's what I do. I'll go to my sister's and we help each other but other than her home I'll do the Holiday if I am given the choice. My IL's mean well but my family prefers my food so we always ask for the rolls, appetizers or a dessert. I do the rest. My DH would have every Holiday at home. He'll ask how many people we have coming, I'll tell him about 32, watch him clutch his heart and then let him wonder how many are really coming :lmao:. Then he'll ask if we have room for one or two more.....of course, we always have room at our table or tables or chairs........

That's the other reason I offer to host also!!! My Mom used to be a decent cook but she doesn't cook much anymore & it shows. She still INSISTS on cooking the thanksgiving turkey though! Last year she actually did great with it, usually it's so dried out it's more like turkey jerkey! Last year's was great, but we ended up with so much food, because I had to have a backup for the possibility of ruined turkey! So we had a good turkey, and a turducken and a beef roast! I can tell you, no one went home hungry!

I really enjoy the cooking for a big event, just hate the house cleaning before & after!

Happy Birthday Lindsay!  Maybe you need to send those make up pics to your MIL, cause I think you look wayyyyy younger than 29- Even in the before shot!;)

And I've got a combo of topics on here lately- Rick and I were going round about my "warped" sense of humor and I commented "Well my DIS friends think I'm pretty funny!" and his answer was....wait.....talk about foot in mouth.... " Well, they don't know how boring you really are!" :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

I loved it! He was referring to my daily patterns, which really are pretty boring, and I knew it, but it was hysterical! Just the look on his face when it dawned on him how it sounded.;)

Anyway, last night was seared tuna with oyster sauce and sugar snap peas and mushrooms sauteed with chicken broth, garlic, and ground ginger. It was yummy.

Rick's home tonight, so no clue yet. Maybe I should make him eat crow.

Hey Y'all, I think I may have found the quote I can live by! Someone I was chatting with about the food & wine fest (yearbook50) just told me

There's nothing wrong with a little wine and chocolate in the morning.

:lmao: Now that's one I can do !! Take a wild guess what we were chatting about, Of course good ole' Rosa with a molten lava cake!!!:goodvibes

I have to tell you that I'm jealous that you can pick up fresh crabmeat stuffed haddock at your fish store! We can get local fresh fish here, like redfish or trout. Sometimes I can find nice salmon or tuna at a decent price. But the only place to get anything like that, fresh & ready to cook, would be a Whole Food Market. And y'all know how expensive that can be! When I see all of the wonderful Markets all over the country, it makes me want to live there! Our own French Market still has not reopened since the storm.:sad1: But even when it was, it only had locally grown veggies & seafood.
yah i def. feel fortunate to live where I do, and the fish store is literally around the corner...you should see the lobstah' tank! haha. But don't fret too much, where can we Bostonians get Beignets...;)

Tonight I am making pasta all norma--pasta with eggplant-tomato sauce. Of course, then in this morning's food section of the paper I saw a recipe that I really want to make instead, for a zucchini-corn-goat cheese clafouti. I already have the eggplant salting though, so I think I am going to have to stick to my original menu for tonight and make the clafouti tomorrow.

If you think last night's photo was goofy, I will be sure and take photos of the food we'll be eating at Fenway on Friday. That stuff will make the tots look like gourmet cuisine.

:)
HA..i saw the same recipe on Boston.com this morning and i actuallythought of this thread and said, that sounds like something someone on WFD would make! Can't wait to see pics...
and YAY you going to the game Friday..make them win will ya! ;)

Hi everyone!

Thanks to all of you for the kind words. Can you believe we're home already?? The procedure went very well, the doctor is pretty sure this will be all that is needed for Johnny to have full use of his arm again, along with a little therapy. He's sleeping now and honestly he's doing much better than I thought(but he's still drugged).

The best news is he can go back to work on Monday!:dance3: :yay: :cheer2: Since this wasn't an invasive procedure recovery time is minimal. So I will cater to his every need for the next few days to let him know how special he is to me.

Dinner tonight was planned - I had made meatballs a few weeks back and made a huge batch to freeze. So spaghetti & meatballs, caeser salad and garlic bread!

:cool1: That's great news! And delicious comfort food to boot..what a great day :)

OH sidenote: Those of you asking about Chief ( my furchild.hahah)..the vet said the BUMP was nothing to worry about, its probably just some kind of crazy cyst..we should just watch it for any changes and take it from there..YAY!!!! A healthy chief is a happy me :goodvibes

Happy Birthday Lindsay!:bday:

Nancy - so glad the dinner party went well. :thumbsup2

(ps I posted the coffee pot link for you on that coffee thread.)

There's a coffee thread?? Geez, I spend too much time here already and I'm still missing stuff :rotfl:

If you think last night's photo was goofy, I will be sure and take photos of the food we'll be eating at Fenway on Friday. That stuff will make the tots look like gourmet cuisine.

Are you inferring that tater tots are not gourmet? That's sacrilige in my house:lmao: :rotfl:

How do you stand it? My sister was already annoyed because her SIL was an hour late and she was bring Mike's Mom along with his niece and nephew. Her face got purple, it was clear that we had not set two lonely little places in the kitchen :confused3. Now these guys have very limited motion now and both require some help. My sister and my brothers wife, (her brother goes through this constantly) made sure that they had food they wanted and not food that was placed without thought. Gail said if Mike doesn't have the Holiday off it is a real possibility that no one will make sure they are included. He is a PA in an ER so he cannot pick and choose his days, he ends up going without sleep in order to drive them there. He is researching buying a wheelchair van so that they are not always worried they cannot get one on short notice.

Nancy, Sorry I missed this earlier with all the chat going on! It's a shame that your Sis went through so much trouble & then family behaves like that! How does Mike's brother get around otherwise? Do they have to rent everytime or use the "special" public transports? I don't know what his brother's needs are but there are lots of different programs out there that will help with getting a lift van. Also tell him that there are some used vans available online from reputable dealers.

I'm happy to hear that Chief is AOK!

Hey All! Just quickly checking in to tell you the concert was great!!! No crazy hairstyles though! :) It was a great show...Blake and Chris R. were beat boxing together and alot of them played instruments. There was a part where the guys formed a "band" and played and sang together. Alot of Bon Jovi was sang...we are in NJ of course!!! ;)

I am not feeling so great today so if I miss anything major, please forgive me or slap me silly!!! My visitor this month is really knocking me out.

We are having tacos and spanish rice tonight...

Glynis, your children are beautiful. God Bless!

Tell me Mary is the "Aww, Mom!" type and Leslie is the supermodel in training, right?!?

I love those pics Glynis!

How did you ever figure that out? Note the sarcasm there! :lmao:

Mary is definitely a tomboy, while Leslie is the girly girl. Both have been asked to be flowergirls at my brother's wedding in 2 weeks. Mary would only agree to do it if we called her a flower tomboy. I can't wait to see the both of them in their dresses. I know one will be smiling, but the other will only be tolerating!

Thanks, everyone, for the comments on my kids! It has been really hard to see them grow up "all of the sudden." It seems like just yesterday they were babies in my arms. DH and I had to go through all kinds of infertility treatments to get them here, so I consider each one of them a true miracle.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: She must be like my niece Debbie, my Godchild. When we got married we wanted her to be our flowergirl. This was a girl who would rather eat dirt then wear a dress so I figured we would find her something she would agree to wear, I did not care if she wore jeans and sneakers. Well she surprised us...a floral print gown with a sash and big bow:upsidedow. I bet she is still feeling scarred by her Auntie Nancy :dance3:

Lauren- feel better!

Gina- I'm glad that Chief is all right. See what you have to look forward too....lumpy and bumpy
