OMG OMG OMG the JUL 1st 9 nighter on the disney magic for a family of 4 27,000 dollar for a balcony room! i was on the disney magic in November and that is not a 10k ship let alone a 27k ship. the same week for an 8 nighter on the explorer of the seas leaving the same port Rome.....for a 1 bed room grand suite family of 4 9,000 dollars. like i dont want to be mean but what are people thinking. i love disney more then most things in life but my god there is a point where its insane and this is it. the crazy part is the june one is sold out....truly amazing.

Amen! Our 13 night Hawaii in May 2020 I now consider a bargain.

i mean i get peoples love for disney between DVC starwars marvell and everything else they get most of my disposable money but the prices for these crusies are bonkers i booked my first time in a long time royal for my 4 this summer and its 50% less then the fantasy and its 9 nights. i mean i could go on a 18 day vacation for the same price as a 7 night cruise oh and its in a suite not a normal room. i am just wondering when will people wake up and realize they are only charging this bc people are paying for it. DCL is where disney broke me once what is next.....

Count me in the priced out category. We are going on the nine night Greek isles cruise with Royal Caribbean this May 2019 and the total with taxes and transfers is $1,900 per person for a balcony. The total cost with air fare, three nights in Rome with tours, taxes, ALL for two people is just $7,600. Air fare is almost as much as the cruise!!

I can relate to a lot of these posts.... we officially turned down our Magic 7 night cruise for 2020 this AM. We are probably going to do the RCCL and I've already posted a few questions on that baord. It looks like we can get a junior suite on those boats for 2K less than an oceanview room on the Magic.

I spoke to my daughter and asked her what she thought about trying a non-disney ship and she was super excited. My MIL was also really excited that we are going to do RCCL and its probably going join us. (DCL was always out of there price range).

Its too bad because part of me likes a degree of consistency / comfort when we travel.... but not at that price! I think it will be good for us to branch out too because RCCL offers so many more destinations that DCL.

Could not agree more!! Just think what you can do/where you can stay for $3,000 a night! Absolutely insane!! (But, but, but, you're getting FREE soda AND BROADWAY quality entertainment...for that kind of money all four of you could see a REAL Broadway show EACH night, stay in a really nice hotel AND eat!).

It makes me laugh when people say "but Disney dont nickle and dime you..." - it because they already did to the max when you signed up for the cruise lol!

And in my experience, other lines dont either. They just give you extra options, thay you could quite happily cruise without if you didn't want to pay any extra...

So we are sort of the same being that I am cancelling our $13,500 Disney cruise and just booked Royal (essentially same cruise) for $3,900. I did the same thing and asked my kids how they felt about not doing a Disney cruise and they were totally fine!

Right now, when I think about our Alaskan Disney cruise last summer, what I remember most is the scenery/mountains/glaciers (which we could get on any ship). Secondly is the comfort of knowing we were "in Disney" on a ship! The subtle little touches like when they had an announcement and the tune "when you wish upon a star" played on the speakers, the gift shops being all Disney, etc. I'll miss that stuff. However, we're ready for new adventures and the best way for us to travel all over the World is going to be mixing in different cruise lines! I'm anxious to try the huge ships in the Royal line like Oasis. Of course, I do want to try the new ships in Disney line once they're done.

I like having the drink option cause I personally don't drink pop/soda, so I'm not buying the package. But I'll get it for my DH for sure and most likely for my kids cause they love those Coke freestyle machines.

Most, if not all, of the Broadway quality shows are on YouTube to watch for free in the comfort of your home. Of course you'll have to buy your own soda.

Completely agree! I think Disney offers a lot of extras as well. We just got off the Fantasy in February and we definitely found plenty of extras to spend money on. Our bill was a lot! I think even if others nickle and dime, we still would come out ahead with other lines.

i am doing a royal this summer 9 nights 4 people junior suite 6500 on a brand new ship. this was the same price as a 5 night dream double dip i did 2 summers ago. its just insane its a bit sad bc i truly love disney but i also love vacations and my money will just go to the parks and now other cruise lines. already scouting NYE 2020 on royal about 1/3 the cost of disney. i will do the new ships but only the very cheapest weeks and pull the kids from school. so its going to be sept/oct or may for us

No one in my family drinks soda.... so that DCL 'perk' never mattered to me.

As for nickel and dime you - It always made me a little nutty that the DCL wanted to charge for popcorn outside the theaters. I mean popcorn is so cheap and to charge people for it always annoyed me. Maybe because my earlier cruise experiences (pre DCL & kids), popcorn was free outside the movie theater.

I thought this was interesting as a comparison between past and present DCL prices (not too far past, though).
Our 4 night CC double dip this June cost us (2 adults) $3882, AFTER 10% off for OBB (we booked on a 3 night fantasy in July). That is $970.71 per night. But, it was NOT booked close to opening day, but around 11 months out.
I have priced (not booked) two cruises on the Fantasy in 2020, both in an aft extended balcony, same category we are in in June.
The 5 night going to Cozumel and CC on 7/6 is $4602--Which comes out to $920.40 a night.
The 7 night Eastern 6/13 is $6174---which comes out to $882 a night.
So whether priced out or not, prices have stayed consistent, depending on when you book.

I do get it though; I also priced these out:
6 night Eastern on Carnival magic,ocean suite, $579 per night.
7 night on western on Carnival Breeze, ocean suite, $587 a night.
6 night on Carnival Horizon, Havana Extended view balcony, $541 a night (no one under 12 allowed in Havana area pool before 7PM)
7 night eastern on Symphony of the seas, junior suite, $758 a night
7 night western on NCL breakaway, spa mini suite $629 a night

We don't drink (well he doesn't, and I don't much) and we don't gamble so I don't think we'd have a lot of add ons either.

I wonder what the RCCL and NCL booking bump looks like when DIsney releases their new schedule? I wonder if it’s a clear uptake?

We like several people looked at Disney and instead booked RCCL. We’re doing the Arctic Circle cruise next June and I’m honestly super excited. I’ve been wanting to do Norway but Disney has been scheduling them too late in the year for my son’s school. This way we get 11 nights, Norway, and something extra with the fun of going far north. We also got a balcony with a super extension that will hold 2 lounge chairs as well as 2 normal chairs, and I cannot wait to lounge out there with a blanket while we cross the Arctic Circle. I’m so excited about the itinerary that the ship can be a total bust and I’ll still have a fantastic time.

The cost for this is $200 more than what I paid for the Fantasy in a non holiday month.

We were on Celebrity and the shows blew away the DCL shows. The DCL shows were good but they never blew me away.

In the spirit of not starting a new thread, let me know if I should, I have some questions.

For those now paying the higher prices that are pushing into luxury all inclusive prices, do you excpect a luxury experience for your money? If you don’t get it will you complain to a Disney about not receiving a luxury experience.

For those that expect the same DCL, are you either
A. Huge Disney fans?
B. Have the impression the DCL is the best service and other lines service is poor?

For us to sail DCL at the current prices,
A. Service would need to improve, currently on par with RCCL and Celebrity
B. Include more for our money, perhaps a beverage package, and some other nice perksincluded in the cost.
C. The food quality needs to improve. Celebrity mdr food blew away DCL imo.
D. Onboard experiences changed up more often. We had less to do at the end because everything was the same including the trivia questions.

We are booked on the Celebrity Apex, new ship, in 2021. An oceanview room was 3100, but we got the classic beverage package and 425 in OBC at that price.

Reading the boards though, it sounds as if DCL has increased prices, but the product is less then it used to be. In all honesty for us to crusise DCL again if they don’t change anything, they would need to be cheaper than RCCL or Celebrity.

I know DCL doesn’t care if people like us leave, I see it as they did us a huge favor

We loved DCL when we sailed, the value is just not there now compared to other options imo.

One thing that you didn't mention is the kid factor. We did Celebrity as adults in April and loved it. I don't think I would do any other cruise line, except maybe some of the even higher end ones, as adults ever again. However, when we take our son, I really do like DCL. There are just so many things for him to do. We did RCCL with him almost 10 years ago, so things have changed. I am sure it's much better now, but it may not live up to DCL, at least for the activities that our son likes. We didn't really check out the kids stuff on Celebrity, because it was rarely open. There weren't very many kids in April, since school is in. I don't think he would have enjoyed the activities as much though. We absolutely love Remy, and that's a huge selling point for DCL. But Luminae on Celebrity sort of made up for it, since we could do that for most meals instead of just 1. I think it's the kids entertainment and accommodations that matter for many of us with kids at home.

So here’s how I am about this. Has Disney priced me out? Yes. Has it stopped me from cruising with them? No Am I going to get on here and complain about it? No. I choose to go alternate routes. I either change my cruises to dates that are more affordable (for what your getting) or I choose an alternative solution which is usually an all inclusive somewhere which usually seems like a deal after the DCL prices.

Do I feel that DCL is perhaps going after a certain clientele with the prices I see sometimes? Yup. But folks pay it! Crazy money if you ask me. We’ve sailed with them enough that there’s NO WAY I’m paying over a certain amount for it though.

We have a Med cruise scheduled next summer with NCL and save enough to cover likely 2 airfares. I’d rather have the money towards another vacation than insist on DCL when there’s just so much out there to do.

Do I complain about it? I vent to my spouse when prices come out but I move on as it doesn’t stop me for a minute. Again, if we can make a DCL work, then we go for it but again...there are so many new all inclusive resorts out there that there is no way I’m limiting myself to a cruise!

Celebrity I would not have taken our daughter on, she grew up on DCL. Saying that I thought DCL did ok for her, but there was a lot of screen time especially on the Fantasy which I am not a fan of for kids.

RCCL seems to have a lot to offer with ice skating (some ships), rock wall, flow rider, etc. I wish we would have tried RCCL when our daughter was younger, but can’t turn back the clock, and having anther kid is no longer an option for us.

As far as kids go I think it is between RCCL and DCL. Celebrity did open my eyes to food quality, RCCL could up its game too to match its sister line in food quality.

We are thrifty cruisers and wouldn’t pay for Remy or specialty resteraunts on any line.

To be fair I have always said we aren’t Disney fans, DCL just happened to be our first 12 cruises, so the Disney brand adds zero for us. I know that is not the case for the majority that sail DCL.
