Just curious why is "Poly" offensive? :confused3
Apparently it is not deemed rude or offensive to say "Poly" accoring to Steve (tikiman).

I have talked to some friends from the islands and they don’t see the word as a problem. In fact the word P-o-l-y is not even a word from any language in the islands. It is Greek for “many”.

Check out this link

:wizard:

PS - Great to see a Polynesian FAQ Thread! Perhaps we should add the Tikiman website link to the first page so it is easy to find :)

It isn't. There was a rumor going around that is was offensive but found to be not true. I will continue to refer to it as the Poly. As another poster said Steve uses it too.

Just want to clear this up! :)

A while back, Tikiman *was* told that "Poly" was an offensive slang word to some people in Hawaii/Polynesia. He has more recently found out that this is not necessarily so. So... apparently the word "Poly" is *not* offensive.

I've never used the abbreviation "Poly" because I never liked the sound of it. :earboy2: And then when I had read that it was an offensive word, I definitely didn't use it. And now I still don't use it because I still don't like the sound of it. But that's just me, I realize it's a very popular abbreviation, and it doesn't bother me when other people use it, I just choose not to use it myself.

How fun to see all the pictures that everyone are posting! I had never been inside the Neverland Club. That looks really fun! Too bad the cut-off age is 12....I'd make a reservation and go play one evening! :)

I stand corrected then. Didnt know there had been an update to the word Polynesian.

No problem! I had heard that it was offensive a long time ago but out of habit continues to refer to it as the Poly. I was very happy when I found out I was not being offensive after all! LOL!

Terry...I just looked at your ticker and it appears we will be at WDW during the same time frame. My family and I will be at the Polynesian during December 8-15th. How about you and yours?

Hello my fellow Polynesian lovers,

We are actually staying for the first time in the CR tower Dec 1-7. My mom has always wanted to stay there but we don't like the pool area. I figure we won't miss the Poly pool in December! We are going to the Poly this October and next June though!

Thanks for the info...glad to hear it is just a matter of personal choice and no one would be offended if Poly is used.....

We have never gotten to stay there .....

but many moons ago when resort amenitiy sharing was allowed....I enjoyed sunning onthe Poly beach..and got to see Pinocchio Water skiing......what a great Disney memory! :cheer2:

This past summer my family enjoyed the Luau....

And next time we will try Ohanas!

(We have been CBR moderate folks...Still get a touch of the tropics....but next time we go we will have 5 over the age of 3 so we will have to see where we end up!)

Yes it is....sometimes it took effort to make sure the shortened version didnt slip out. ;)

I tried gettin your link to Tikiman's website and it says it is temporarily not available. I clicked on my favorite website with the same address and it came up. I guess I missed something, I thought he retired? It's great if he didn't! Anyway maybe it is my computer or something.

Love the map on the thread!! Thanks!! It helps to refer back to it when people are talking about specific longhouses! Could ya possibly post it in the FAQ section Terry is working on??? Would make it easier to have it on the first section/page!? Thanks, guys!

PS~I am headed there in July. Need any updated menus and such??? Hint..hint...

Yikes, me too!! Never got the update! :teeth: I did a search and couldn't find it offensive to anyone? :confused3 It simply means "many" as someone else posted!! So glad I can say we are going to the Poly!!!!

I saw the pix earlier, and the rooms at the Poly and the Contempo are very nice!! I would love to stay at the Poly next year and Contempo just to try their new rooms!!

We are heading to Poly this June and it's our first time... so we are very excited about it!! :cheer2: I can't wait for us to try the Volcano pool! How is the pool slide? I hear it dumps to about 4 feet? I hope no more than 4 feet. My son can slide, he can swim, but my daughter she can't swim yet and I can't swim either, I don't think I am comfortable to be in more than 4 feet deep. It's nice that they have 0 depth entry.

I just hope that we will fall in love with Poly just as much as the Royal Pacific!

Fantasia- We are going to the Polynesian June 17 - 24th. What days are you at the Poly? Maybe we will cross paths. It will be me, DH, DS-9, DS-8 and DD-6. Our 2nd trip to Disney but first time on-property. We can't wait! How did you get the ticker to come up?

Does anyone know the order of the remodel? We will be there December 1-11 and as of right now Im requesting Tahiti. I would love to have a "new" room!

I've got 2 questions:

1. I know the Polynesian is undergoing a renovation. Any idea of when that might be complete?

2. What's the lowest AP (or other discount) rate anyone has booked at the Polynesian in the recent past?

Thanks ::MickeyMo

Hi! :wave2: We will be there June 21-23! My son is 8 and my daughter is 6. Ooohhh... I hope we get to meet! I hope your children and my children will get to meet!! That would be so wonderful!!

As far as the ticker...just go to the technical board and just read one of the "sticky" thread on the top and just click it and it will guide you on how too. Or.. do you see the word tickerfacory.com just go there and it will help you set it up, but you will still need to read on the actual how to from one of the "sticky" thread. Did I just confuse you... I think I just confused myself here!
