The **OFFICIAL** October 2006 Who's Who (and Who's going)

Hello! I've just joined this board. My family's first official trip is Oct. 7th through the 13th. I came to Disney in 1984 with my grandparents when Epcot first opened (I think?) when they were hosting the World's Fair. It was a bus tour with a bunch of senior citizens. My family and I are coming to Disney for the first official time during fall break, Oct. 7 - 13. We are staying at POR and very excited about our trip. Any advice would be much appreciated! I'm still on the fence about the dining plan. thanks!! (DS is 11)

:welcome:
and congratulations on your trip. You will find LOTS of helpful people here. If you jump over to the Dining board, there is a special sub-board all about the dining plan - lots of people love it (myself included), probably just as many think it is wasteful - it will depend on your family and how you like to eat, how much time you like to spend eating, and what kind of touring plan you are likely to follow. Enjoy your planning (it's ALMOST as fun as the trip itself!)

Unless something comes up we are going to be there for the 1st time 10/1-10/6 and the MNSSHP sometime during then too :thumbsup2

:welcome: Welcome to the boards! We're going in October too - I canNOT wait!!! :teeth:
I'm on the fence about the dining plan too. One day I'm doing it, the next day I'm not! My children will be 12, 9 and 2 at the time of our trip - it's definitely a great deal for the 9 and unders but very expensive for our 12 year old and your 11 year old. We'll probably end up doing it for part of our trip (we have more than one reservation as we're splitting our stay between 3 resorts - mad I know!!!). I don't think we'd spend that much money on food really but the thought of being able to order whatever we want sounds blissful!
We stayed in Port Orleans French Quarter last year, it's beautiful and I hear POR is gorgeous too (those 2 are sister resorts). When you stay at POR you are allowed to use the pool at POFQ too and if you purchase refillable mugs you can fill them at both POR and POFQ. The landscaping at both resorts is wonderful and staying *in* WDW is fabulous!!!! I loved the buses and the whole theming.
Re: the dining plan, keep in mind that if you want to do the Dining Plan at POR you must have a package holiday booked (as opposed to 'room only'). However, you can still get AAA discounts on your package. I don't know if you are a member of AAA but it would be worth looking into as discounts can be 15 to 20% off your room cost.
Enjoy your planning!!! :)

OK, we finally decided...we're going to the MNSSHP on Sept 29th...hope to see some of you there!

We will be there 10/13-20! Not sure where we are staying 13th and 14th, but we will be at Beach Club Villas 15-20! Whoo hoo! The MNSSHP plan is to go the 19th.

Thanks, y'all, for the warm welcome. I do plan to do some more research on the dining plan, as well as the pin collecting and shopping for scrapbook supplies. My husband thinks I am nuts for getting so excited about planning this trip! Maybe I am, but so what!!??

Hi everyone!
Please add us to the list. The boys and I will be traveling 10/27 - 11/05 and staying at the POP. I'll be our first time staying there and our first MNSSHP hopefully on 10/31! We've got our costumes all ready. :yay:
We are so excited. See ya there!

We will be at WDW October 14 through the 20th. Planning on doing MNSSHP with our 2.5 yr old, but not sure what day yet. We were anxiously awaiting the 7 month window since we are renting points from a DVC owner. Got it yesterday! 6 nights in a studio at VWL! SOOOO EXCITED!!!!!

Just booked us at ASMu for Sept.30-Oct.7 We're hoping to do MNSSHP on Oct.1.

This is only our second trip. On our first trip 3 years ago, we did everything wrong. We didn't plan anything & it was a mess, so hopefully this time around I'll be more prepared.

Please add us!

We'll be there Oct 1-4 BWV then Oct 4-8th AKL.
Hope to do MNSSHP Oct 5th or 6th.
Can't wait!!!

Now just have to wait for SW to release flights for Oct!!!!! :goodvibes

I will be there in October 8th to 13th Starting off at VWL for two days and then BCV for the other 3days. Always wanted to go Trick or :stir: Treating with my pirate: son and go semi camping with Chip and Dale and do the sing a long.

Where do you find out about renting points for Disney vacation club members? I know this is off the topic, sorry.

Actually, we are renting points (at OKW) as well. There is a good SIMPLE explanation on Mousesavers CLICK HERE
and if you hop on over to the DVC Board they have a sub-board called Rent/Trade and one of the sticky threads at the top has all the frequently asked questions. AND you can now get dining plan with DVC - yummmm!

Please add us!!

We are going Oct 19-23, staying at Port Orleans Riverside. :woohoo:

Basically, I did some research in the "DVC" area of this board. Posted some questions about how to go about renting points and someone who had points to rent PM'd me and we have been communicating for 4-5 months now. He just booked the reservation for us this week and we have to pay him for the rental 45 days before we check-in. There are some drawbacks as far as the ability to easily cancel, trusting the person you are renting from (for that matter, they must trust you as well), etc. But I believe that the benefits - being able to stay at a nicer resort for less $$ than booked through CRO - outweigh the risks! Good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions that I can help with.
