Just wanted to say that I mailed my Christmas exchange gift today. :bounce: :bounce:

Alice28 - Congrats to your DH!!

Congrats to your DH, Robin! DH found out he's definitely getting captain in June, but that's pretty much a given unless something drastic happens.

Oh and I'm not normally a liker of the Gymbo (other than the airplane stuff) but that polar bear stuff is CUTE!! I'm thinking about abandoning Russ with DH and taking my SIL to the mall super early on Friday...

Russ is doing better - that rough week a week or so ago resulted in TWO teeth - both bottom ones. He still wasn't sleeping well so I instituted an earlier bedtime. It seems to be helping. He also started military crawling, finally. His poor elbows and knees are turning red!

I have to tell you all about the nasty parent e-mail I received.
I had my share of e-mails like that. That is one thing I don't miss about teaching. Try not to take it personally. I know that is much easier said than done! I would always be upset for days when I received an e-mail like that.

FYI- I just saw a news report on hazardous toys. I went to the link that was given in the report, and I found out that Jenna has one of the potentially toxic toys on the list (Gloworm).
Toy Hazards Link

Robin- Sending prayers for your DH!

Gotta go. Jenna just woke up from her nap.

Check me out - two days in a row on the DIS! I don't feel so much pressure to get everything done tonight as only one more day of work this week! Man, this thread really moves.

Glad to hear so many positives about the Bundle Me (thanks for reporting in Justhat and SL). We've only had it on a few days, and I'm loving it! Glad to hear it's ok (Dr said it's fine too). It really is so much easier to buckle him in without the big bulky coat/bunting. I can see why it is safer (thanks SL).

Jace had his checkup for his ears and she gave him a clean bill of health! Of course he woke up congested and we think he's starting yet another cold, but the ears are fine. She weighed him too - 16 pounds, 12 ounces.

Well, the trip to VT is off. Thanks for the snow thoughts! I do feel bad as my MIL is very sad about it. I feel sorry for her. But it is going to be snowing on thursday and currently from today's snow storm up there they do not have power (2 weeks ago they lost it for 3 days). they are in the middle of nowhere. So, I am looking forward to 4 days of nothing, but do feel guilty about my MIL not seeing Jace.

Val: Sorry to hear about the fall out of your Thanksgiving plans. Hope you still do get to see your GPs.
Alice: Way to go Bob! Congrats on his promotion. I'm sure it is well deserved. I'll keep him in my thoughts.
Lissawyn: That email is awful. I have a lot of friends and family who are teachers. Parents are often so quick to blame the teachers and undermind them. Then they are the first to complain when their children blame and undermind teachers. Argh...don't get me started on messages parents send kids.
Tasha: Sounds like you have your hands full with the pets. We have 3 cats. I'm hoping that Jace won't end up being allergic.
Tykes: interesting about the fleece huh? sounds like Jace and Tyler both have very sensitive skin. Both DH and I did as kids (I still do).
Katerkat: Hope that DH's promotion to captain will go thru. Poor Russ and two teeth at once. EEK!
J&D: thanks for the link. FYI: I used to love gloworm!
Hope you all have a good night!

Hello everybody, I was wondering, have any of you ever start feeding your baby jar food at an earlier age then the doctor usually suggest? My 3month old DD has had her first taste of sweet potatoes jar food yesterday and today, and she just loves it. DD has great tounge control for swallowing the food and if I don;t hurry up to give her more, she cries.

Has anyone else sent out there baby exchange? I sent mine out yesterday. Just wondering.

As a mother of a kid with a food allergy I really recomend just waiting. After all they have the rest of their life to eat foods. Enjoy being able to just breast feed or bottle, it is so much easier. It goes fast.

We held out with Lily until she was 6 months old, she was 9 months when she had milk products for the 1st time (yogurt). I was able to breast feed her with no problems until she had the exposure in her own diet (not through breast milk) Starting at 12 months old I had to eliminate it from my diet 100%. That isn't easy. My older DD has no allgeries at all. We also waited with her.

Just wait, it isn't worth it.

They also say soilds and or ceral doesn't help with sleeping. It didn't in my case at all. With Anna she stopped sleeping all night for a while after we stated ceral. With Lily she never was a good sleeper but it turns out part of the problem when she was older was her un diagnoxied food allergies.

BTW Lily has great eating and chewing abilities. The girl can eat carrots (raw) and almost anything else. We do keep a careful eye on her though. ;)

J&D - thanks for the link on those toys.

Robin - prayers for your husband and all of our armed forces!

vald - {{hugs}}

tasha - our dog is an outside dog too. She has been since she was born. She loves to run around outside. Yes, some people might give you a hard time and think it's cruel, but you do what's right for you.

joats - enjoy your time at home. Now you all have me curious about the bundle me!

lissawynn - sorry about the nasty email. That's horrible!! I can't imagine how hard it is to be a teacher. Yeah to all you teachers!!! Thanks for doing what you do.

katerkat - sorry to hear about baby Russ! Those teeth are a pain aren't they?

We went to the derm. today. She said it looks like eczema to her. We got a new cream and hopefully that will do the trick. I just hope it will bring some relief to the itching.

I'm going to buy a new outfit tomorrow :) I received a birthday gift card to Ann Taylor Loft and they have their own version of gymbucks. So I'm going to spend $50 (gift card) and get $25 that I can use after Thanksgiving and get a Christmas outfit. I want something other than jeans to wear to Thanksgiving too.

I 2nd waiting. With the increased risk of allergies that can supposedly happen by starting prior to 4 months, it just isn't worth it. I tried to start Bryce on solids at 4 months and he didn't take to them well, so we tried again at 5 months. With Noah we will wait until 6 months to start solids.

lissawynn- why do parents have to be so nasty? What, you're supposed to pass someone's kid with no effort on their part? I don't get it...

joats- enjoy your time at home! I hope you are able to get lots of down time.

tykes- have fun shopping! I just ordered myself $120 worth of clothes from landsend. Not thrilled with the size I had to get, but I need some clothes!!! I have hardly anything if I want to go anywhere besides Target or the grocery store! (thinking about when Bob comes home and we want to go to a nicer restaurant, etc). I got a coldwater creek catalog and I'm really intrigued with a sweater, but geez, $59 for one sweater? Maybe Santa (mom) will get it for me. :teeth:

katerkat- wow, a captain! DH could be further along with his rank, but he just was always so busy with civilian life/job to go to the right schools and such the military wanted him to go to. Oh well. But Captain- way to go!!!

Oh, & I hope Tyler's eczema gets better with the new cream, Tamie.

Night all :cloud9: !

joats- I also loved having a Gloworm when I was a kid, so that is why we got Jenna one. She loves it. I hate to take it away from her, but she likes to chew on its face, so we must.

Tamie- Jenna has eczema. The Dr. prescribed Fluticasone (Cutivate) for us to use when she has bad flareups, and she told us to use Lubriderm and Aquaphor when it is mild. She also told us to use Dove soap instead of baby washes/soaps. The Dr. also suggested that we introduce solids into her diet very slowly. We waited until she was 6 months to start cereal and almost 8 months to start baby food. We just introduced yogurt into her diet this week.
I agree with the others who have suggested not rushing solids.

I wish I would have know about the exchange. Can't wait to hear what all the DIS babies get.

We leave for the in-laws tomorrow. Have a great Thanksgiving, everyone. Let's remember to give thanks for the little blessings in our lives!

Good morning everyone,
Well, I woke up to be called every name in the book this morning :guilty: . My mother decided she did want to do Thanksgiving now and when I refused to change our new plans (we are now going to the In-laws) she decided to ream me a new butt. I am now officially done speaking to her. It's sad because she is my mother but I refuse to be treated in that manner when I know I've done nothing. I can't say it doesn't hurt though :sad1: . I have been crying all morning.

Sorry to be such a downer guys.

Tamie and Robin,
I'm glad you are treating yourselves to some new clothes. We have to pamper ourselves once in a while :) .

I hope everyone has a great holiday :wave2: .

Its hard when its somebody close to you and love to hear them bash you like that. My DH does it to me all the time and his sister (my SIL) slapped me and told me that I shouldn't have my DD Baptized if I wasn't gonna take her to church every Sunday, basicall SIL called me a bad mother and DH calls me everything else.

vald - I'm so sorry. :( I don't even know what to say. That's just horrible. I hope you have a good thanksgiving at your inlaws. That's just not fair for your mother to change plans like that. Did she really expect you to change yours back again and suddenly go to her house? I'm so sorry!!!

J&D - yes, that's a great reminder. We all have such sweet, beautiful things to be thankful for this year! :)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and their families.

Tamie

Vald - So sorry about your problem with your mother. Good thing you have a great MIL.

Joats - Enjoy your holiday at home. I'm in the area where it's supposed to snow about an inch tomorrow; not too bad. Do you remember one year (I think it was just a few years ago) when we had that blizzard on Thanksgiving? That was rough.

Tkyes & Alice28 - Enjoy your new clothes! I anticipate getting a few gift cards for Christmas and I'm already making a mental list of what I want.

J&D and everyone travelling this year - Have a safe trip!

Can I ask a gross question? What do you all use to get rid of ear wax in your babies' ears? I've tried using Q-Tips but I don't like them because I heard they just push the wax back in.

Lily is an ear wax baby, Anna not so much. Our Doc told us to mix a little bit of hydrogen proxcide (sp?) with water and use a dropper to put a few drops in each side. This will clear it out. We didn't really feel comfortable doing that, but it got so bad we had to. It worked. We had to do it everyday for a few weeks and then every once in a while after. Haven't done it for a while now.

Our Doc also said just make sure they get water in their ears during bath, this actually helps!

vald , so sorry about MIL, but you are doing the right thing. You need to draw boundries and one is she can not talk to you or your family that way if she wants to continue to see you or be a part of your family. Be strong. You can do it!

Dear Val----I am so sorry your mother was so horrible to you on the phone! :( Obviously she has some deep rooted problems and I feel so bad that you have to be the recipient of her anger. :flower3:  Here's hoping you still have a nice, peaceful day with your in-laws tomorrow.

Ear wax- had to deal with it with my younger two- it grosses me out like nothin else. Anyway, my doctor has said to put body temp oil (a couple drops) in their ears and then put a small piece of cotton in to hold the oil in there for a little while. Do this a couple times a week and it should drain out. It can be any type of oil- baby, mineral, even vegetable. If it's really in there, you're supposed to do the oil, and then rinse it with body temperature water- like put the water in a syringe or baster and kind of squirt it in there and the wax comes out- I saw them do this at the doctor's office with my #2 and I just about gagged when the pieces of wax came out. Give me bougars, poop, barf, anyday over ear wax. :crazy2:

I'll probably be checking in here all weekend- I am not going anywhere exciting except down the road to my parents. Hope to catch up on my scrapbooking this weekend. :moped:

Oh- Molly is starting to pull herself up to standing- oh jeez.....is it REALLY already time for this?

I got my order for my exchange today so I will post it out tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting mine through!! :teeth:

2SweetAngels (AMY) was my pal! I got a LOT! Wow! Thanks Amy!

This is what she sent Molly: a really cute baby's first Christmas ornament that is also a little memory book- I can put her picture in there and write some thoughts down from her first Christmas.

A little Pooh figurine for March (her birth month)

A white & pink fleece hat and pink mittens

A Pooh washcloth

Pooh diaper cover

Some yellow cozy sweats

An Eeyore bib

Baby's first Christmas stocking (what a cute idea!)

Thank you Amy! This was really great. :teeth:

OK, who will be next? If my pal is in town, I think she will receive hers on Friday. :Pinkbounc

I should be in bed but I can't sleep! I thought I would post and let everyone know that I sent my person's exchange package out today. I sent a rather large package and the postage was ridiculous so I am sorry to say I did not send it priority so I am figuring it will be at least the middle of next week before my person will receive it! Sorry for the delay but I just couldn't afford that kind of postage! :guilty:

Alright, Alice! Sounds like you got a great package! :cheer2: Oh, and congrats to your Dh! I will continue to pray for him!

katerkat~ Congrats to your dh too! And congrats on Russ's bottom teeth. Kylie got her bottom 2 teeth at the same time too.

lissawynn~ Sorry about the nasty email you received! Some parents can be so ignorant sometimes!

2sweetangels~ I will put it this way. With my next child I am going to wait until he/she is atleast 6 months to start any type of solids. I started Kylie at 4 months per the pediatrician's recommendation and it was such a bad idea. She did not do well at all with it until she hit 6 months. And even now she only eats a little. I have a list that says she should be eating 1-2 tbsp of cereal a day and 4-8 tbsp of fruits and 4-8 tbsp of veggies a day between 6-8 months but she doesn't eat nearly that much! She is lucky if she eats even 1/4 of that. I give her a couple of tbsp of cereal and half a jar of fruit in the morning and I put a little of each on her spoon for each bite and I do the same at night except I give her half a jar of veggies instead of fruit and she never eats more than a quarter of it. I figure something is better than nothing though. She seems to really enjoy what she does eat...she just doesn't have a big appetite.

J&D~ Thanks for the link! Scott and I were going to get Kylie a gloworm among other things for Christmas but we changed our minds and got her an exersaucer and a couple of little things instead. Now I am glad we didn't get her the gloworm after reading that link! Scott and I both had gloworms when we were little too.

Tamie~ I am glad that it sounds like Tyler's rash mystery may have been solved! Hopefully the prescription will work. My brother had eczema when he was little too and I can't remember what the cream was that the dr. prescribed but it worked! Took care of it almost instantly! He also had very sensitive skin and was allergic to almost everything! And when he was little he was allergic to peanut butter and eggs really bad! They say not to let your baby try those foods until they are atleast a year and if the allergy runs in your family wait until they are 2. So we are going to try to wait until Kylie is 2 in case it is hereditary or something.

SL~ I had wondered the same thing about ear wax! My dh also has it really bad sometimes and the dr. told him to use peroxide to help flush it out. I never thought of doing that for Kylie as well. Duh! You would think I could put 2 and 2 together but apparently not, lol!

Vald~ Wow! I am sooo sorry your mother is being such a PITA! Try to have fun tomorrow (or today I guess I should say!) and overlook her. She is simply trying to make you feel badly when you have done nothing to deserve it. I have a great mom but my dad is almost exactly like you describe your mom! I have learned he is unreliable so whenever we make plans I don't count on those plans to actually happen and I usually make alternate plans just in case. 9 times out of 10 he cancels or backs out of any plans we make and then he tries to make me feel guilty as well.

joats~ Enjoy your Thanksgiving at home! I have such a hard time picturing snow since it is just now starting to get cooler outside here. I put a light jacket on Kylie this morning but I didn't wear one...it just doesn't get cold enough for snow often here. And when it does we usually end up with nasty ice storms which are no fun!

Hi, DisneyPhD, Gems, zalansky, Jill, and Hillbeans! Hope you are all doing well!

Sorry if I missed anyone...like I said I should be in bed!

I think I'll share a couple of things and then I will go to bed!

Yesterday I was in Walmart (we don't have a Target so walmart it is! ;) ) and I was buying a few last minute food items and it was crowded. There was about 10 other people on the same aisle. Well, this guy starts talking but I had no idea he was talking to me. He starts saying it like he knew the person he was talking to so I didn't pay any attention. Finally I realized he was talking to me so I looked up. Anyway, he was a little odd but he did say,"You did good to have such a pretty and sweet thing like her! My grammy would say ya done good!" I said thanks. I thought it was sweet (albeit a little creepy though!) but the whole conversation aside from that was a little...off. Still sweet though I guess.

Then today when I went to mail my package the lady who worked there asked how old Kylie was (she also held her while I made out a check). She said she guessed she was between 3-4 months. I told her she is nearly 7 months and she acted so shocked! She didn't believe me! I am so used to people saying how big she is that I was surprised someone thought she was only 3-4 months. I don't think she is huge but even I know she doesn't pass for a 3-4 month old baby! I guess it is all in each person's perception, huh?

Okay, last little story and then I am done. Last night dh was holding Kylie and she was getting sleepy. Well, when she gets sleepy she plays with her ears, her hair, her face, etc. She started playing with her hair and she pulled it REALLY hard! She gave dh this "if looks could kill" look and started crying hysterically! She literally did not want to be held by dh anymore and reached for me. I took her and she was fine but every time she would look at dh she would give him this mean look! It was hilarious! She thought he pulled her hair! She has since forgiven him though and she is definitely still a daddy's girl. The irony is my brother did the same exact thing when he was a baby. Perhaps it is a family thing? :rotfl:

Okay, well, I am going to bed now. We are going to my mom's for Thanksgiving and then we plan to put the tree up tonight and watch the Charlie Brown thanksgiving special! I just love the holidays!

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving everyone!!! :goodvibes

Hi everyone! Wow! I am really behind. I'll be honest, I don't think I can totally catch up. I just don't have the time. I wanted to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving! I have one more thing I want to buy and then I'll be sending out my baby's package. I'm having 23 people for dinner today and I'm DISing. I must be nuts. I'm so tired. Aidan seriously needs to know when mommy is off from work so he will sleep later. He gets up at 4:45 am every day. On the other hand, he goes to bed between 6 and 7 pm so I can't complain. I was wondering if any of your babies play "shy". Aidan is 7 months now and he does not like unfamiliar people. My MIL came over to drop off chairs yesterday. Aidan never sees her and when she tried to play with him, he put his little arm over his eyes and tried to hide from her. It was really cute but I felt bad for her. Oh well, maybe she'll make more of an effort to see him now. She really has no excuse.

Lissawynn - I went back to read your post about the nasty parent e-mail. It happens sometimes to me too and it is always something stupid. I had a parent complain to guidance because he didn't feel he had enough notice that his 18-year-old son was failing my class. I sent a progress report home with a request for them to call me and they never called and yet somehow his failure is MY FAULT?! As a parent, if I recieve a request from the teacher to call, I do it immediately. Parents just give their kids entirely too much power over their teachers nowadays.

Well, I just want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving again. I'm so thankful to have Aidan with us this year  .
