The Official GLEE thread

I loved the episode too, so far I'm impressed with the season overall. I think they've definitely taken it up a notch. I'm also glad they're showing more of Mike, hopefully that's a trend they'll continue with the less featured actors. I also LOVE Will and Emma together, I'm sure something will come along to rock the boat, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

Mercedes, bleh. I think it was over the top. BUT..they had to have a way to get some of the Glee kids on Shelby's team, and Mercedes was the obvious (and most believable) choice to me. The other obvious choice would be Quinn, and they can't really do that with the whole custody storyline. I'll be curious to see who she drags along, looks like it will be Santana and Britney, but we'll see. Have I mentioned I love this show?

I agree, I thought Mercedes came off looking like a diva, and did not make me feel for her.

LOVED Mike Chang!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe he can sing and they never let us hear him before! So, the Can't Sing t-shirt last season was a lie. I just love him, and am so glad they finally made him a front character. I knew they were going to, and I am glad they didn't give him a dumb storyline for his first major story. I felt so bad for him sitting with his dad.

Also, finally an episode with a lot of music. Out Here On My Own is one of my favorite songs ever, and it was wonderful!

I have to take the opposition view on this week's episode. I think Mercedes was 100% right. She was clearly better, but they always cater to Rachel. The show hit on a number of issues that kids deal with in high school every day; the overbearing parents and the stereotyping (don't forget that Kurt minimized Brittany's campaign, cause she's the dumb chick.). The double casting was a cop out and Mercedes knew it. I love the relationship with the boyfriend and how she finally found someone supportive of her.

Can I ask-did they say Glee wasn't coming back until the Spring? My DH was talking through the end credits and I didn't hear what was said but though something was mentioned about a hiatus and I was thinking "already?"

According to Wikipedia, the next episode will air November 1st.

I disagree. I think Mercedes & Rachel matched each other. Mercedes wasn't better than Rachel and Rachel wasn't better than Mercedes. However, if I were casting, I would go with Rachel. For the main reason, she "looks" like Maria. It's the same as Blaine & Kurt both up for 'Tony'. Blaine LOOKS more 'Tony' and Rachel LOOKS more 'Maria'.

DECADES ago I was auditioning for a part in a school play. The part was a building superintendent. I didn't get the part. The director told me later he liked my acting better but the student who got the part LOOKED the part more than I did.

I do agree the double casting was a cop out, but I thought it was a good compromise.

Sam, that wasn't my opinion, that was Rachel acknowledging that Mercedes was better.

I know Rachel said that but you said "Mercedes was clearly better". I disagree. DW & I were both watching and agreed (during the callback) that both girls turned in a good enough performance, they just each bring something different.

Sort of like "Which park is better, MK or EC?"

I totally agree with this whole statement. And I really believe Rachels voice is more suited to the music of West Side Story than Mercedes.

EPCOT, of course ;)

I agree. It would have made perfect sense to cast Rachel as Maria, except for the fact that Rachel gets/expects everything and Mercedes finally matched her and deserved to be rewarded. But if you're thinking strictly as a casting director, then yes, it should have been Rachel. On the other hand, if you were that strict, you wouldn't have let Mercedes try out for that part in the first place, so if "looking the part" doesn't matter, it should have gone to Mercedes. So maybe I don't agree after all. :confused3

So, someone please tell me Mercedes isn't supposed to be pregnant... she didn't feel well (which always means you're knocked up in TV land) and there was a line about her "getting fatter" in one of the songs. :sad2:

:headache: I agree. My first thought was "really? They're going down the teen pregnancy road again?"

Mercedes was singing one of the songs that the character Effie White sings in Dreamgirls. The line about Effie getting fatter was in Dreamgirls. Effie was pregnant.

Here are some recent Twitter posts from Amber Riley (the actress who plays Mercedes):

P.S. Mercedes is NOT pregnant lmbo! Ok bye

People thought Mercedes was pregnant because Effie sings that song in Dreamirls because she's pregnant and because she was throwing up

Just wanted to clear up the rumors :)

lol there is no story behind her puking, she just ate Quisnos before dance rehearsal, THAT'S IT. swear it lol

I'd agree except for the stuff with Mercedes and the dancing. It's West Side Story. Whether or not Mercedes sang her audition song better is only part of the casting for that roll. Every time she was supposed to work on her dancing, Mercedes just whined and came up with excuses. That's not showing she's ready to be a leading star.

The only thing I did not like about this week's Glee is that it made me feel negatively about Mercedes. She's been a "diva" before, but never so over the top. I think if the exact same lines were performed a bit more reserved, more people would sympathize with her character.

I'm on the fence as well with the Mercedes/Rachel casting story line, yes Rachel fits the part due to her looks and voice, but then Mercedes would be going against the stereotype. BUT Rachel does always get the lead and it would be nice to see someone else be a star for once (besides Quinn and Sam's duet last season). BUT Mercedes was acting like a brat always making complaints so at the same time she was not acting like she deserved the role. :confused3

So since Rachel got the lead does that mean she's going to pull out of the race for class president? I like that they're going to have Burt run against Sue, he's certainly the "anti-Sue" Coach Beiste was referring to (he has a heart and soul :rotfl: )

I knew Kurt was going to let Blaine audition for Tony, I'm glad to see Kurt knew he wasn't cut out for a manly leading part. He's talented enough that he shouldn't have a problem getting other roles more suited for him.

Why when Mike was dancing before his audition and having the visions of Tina and his father did they have his father state that Mike was one injury away from not having a career as a dancer? I know dancing can be extremely demanding but I would think if injury was truly a concern Mike's father wouldn't want him on the football team either where's he's just as likely to become injured as well? I guess because if he got hurt playing football he could still go to medical school (assuming the injury wasn't paralyzing or something like that)?

Also could someone tell me what Emma was saying as she got down on her knees to pray before Will started singing? My mom's dogs started to bark and I missed it....

No Glee till November? :scared1: Darn baseball, doesn't everyone know that watching TV is really America's favorite pastime? :lmao:

I think Mikes dad meant he was one injury away from not being a doctor? But yes, football is even more dangerous.

I think Mike's dad was worried about an injury taking him away from playing football which could affect college acceptances. Football "looked good" on his applications and Glee Club was either neutral or bad.
