Odd night for an award show. But, after no Golden Globes last year, as they were boycotted by talent, media and creatives, and didn’t air on NBC, due to the concerns over diversity within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (which at the time had no Black members) and other issues of accountability, :duck: maybe they just couldn't get a coveted Sunday night time slot? :confused3

However, they are back again. Err, hopefully new and much improved. So, it's that time of year! The Golden Globes are the official kick off the live award show season and our Golden Globes LIVE WATCH PARTY thread! This is my favorite time of year on the DIS. :dance3:

Lots of dresses to talk about.

Host: Comedian Jerrod Carmichael.

Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award
goes to: Eddie Murphy, a previous Globes winner and six-time nominee.

The Carol Burnett Award, a television special achievement award to "celebrate the highest level of achievement in the medium," goes to Ryan Murphy, a five-time Golden Globe winner and 16x nominee. He is a screenwriter, producer and director whose credits include Golden Globe-winning drama Nip/Tuck, Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning series Glee, Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning anthology series American Horror Story and American Crime Story; Emmy-winning anthology series Feud, Pose, Scream Queens and 9-1-1.

Murphy’s American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, counts ten Emmys including Outstanding Limited Series. The second installment, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, won seven Emmy awards in 2018, including Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series and Outstanding Limited Series, and won two Golden Globes for Best Television Limited Series and Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series. Murphy’s FX drama Pose earned 20 Emmy Awards nominations

Golden Globes Ambassadors (formerly known as Miss/Mr. Golden Globes,) this year has been permanently scrapped as some jealous idiot wrote an article in New York Magazine about "nepotism babies," which are the children of famous, accomplished celebrities. The article pointed out a list of young adult children who perhaps got a hand up to their own levels of success by being their kids, and the access they have to more and better opportunities.

Of course, those in cancel culture, who has nothing else to do than type on social media while living in their parent's basement, jumped on a bandwagon of outrage. And now the GG's canceled the position of the GG Ambasadors under this negative "nepo babies" pressure. This position used to go to the young daughters or sons of the film industry's most respected actors, directors, and producers and are up & coming in the industry themselves due to their own talent and hard work. They had assisted by holding and presenting the GG awards to the winners.

Bono's daughter clapped back at New York Magazine's owners after the "nepotism babies" article when she found out the president of the entire company, Pamela Wasserstein, is a nepo baby herself. Her dad bought the magazine in 2004.

Onto to the awards:

A little heads up for newbies: The Red Carpet segment goes really quickly on this thread. People are typing like crazy all at the same time, seeing different dresses on 2 different channels. (On E! and NBC.)

If you post something or ask a question and it seems to get ignored :( you are NOT being ignored. ) Everyone is just watching, typing & posting so quickly before the dress goes off the screen. We do most of the reading, scrolling back & posting back to each others comments during the COMMERCIALS! :surfweb: Your posts will get a response then. :hyper2:

Once the show starts, it slows down to a more comfortable pace. Just hang in with us! It's going to be a great evening. :hyper2: :lmao:  :sad2: :thumbsup2

Golden Globes 2015: 10 fun facts about Hollywoods most free-spirited awards show

From: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/golden-globes-2015-10-fun-facts-show-article-1.2070172

1. The stars can eat if they arrive on time

Even though the Globes serve a three-course meal catered by the Beverly Hilton Hotels chefs, dinner is served to nominees and guests closer to lunch time around 3:30 p.m. Why so early? Producers dont want dining noises, such as the clinking of silverware, to be heard during the telecast. So by the time the show begins at 5 p.m. PST, dinner has already been served. The good news: The attendees are still served alcohol, which is why guests often seem tipsy (and get tipsier) throughout the three-hour show.

2. Drinking with the stars

The champagne will definitely be flowing during the glitzy event, with 400 magnums of Moet & Chandon made available for guests, one bottle per table. The celebs can get even get the party started early, since 1,500 bottles of Moet minis will be given out on the red carpet.

3. Mixing and mingling

During commercial breaks, the stars love to get up and mingle with each other, exchanging pleasantries, air kisses and posing for selfies. The banquet-style seating encourages these kinds of casual interactions, but since its a live broadcast, those freewheeling conversations sometimes mean its a scramble to get attendees back into their seats on time. In order to get the A-listers seated before the show comes back on air, announcements are made at mid-commercial break and at the one-minute mark so stars can make their way back to their seats.

4. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey (the 2014 hosts) belong to a very exclusive club

In the history of the 72-year-old awards show, just six celebrities have hosted the Golden Globes. Besides this years returning hosts Fey and Poehler, the show has only been emceed by four other people: Andy Williams (mid-1960s), John Larroquette and Janine Turner (1995) and Ricky Gervais (2011-2013) and this year again.

Poehler is also the only host to win a Golden Globe while hosting the show, winning for her lead role on Parks and Recreation in 2014.

5. Frank Sinatra unwittingly started an A-list tradition

The Golden Globes are hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whose members are comprised of journalists. HFPA members were tasked with handing out the awards until the Globes were hijacked by the Rat Pack in 1958, when Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. stormed the stage with whiskey and cigarettes in tow to hand out the trophies. The HFPA asked the trio to repeat their performance the following year, and celebs have been tasked with giving out awards on stage ever since.

6. Celebs skipped the 2008 Golden Globes

Out of solidarity with the Writers Guild of America writers strike, no actors attended the awards show that year. Instead, the winners were announced via a live news conference hosted by entertainment news personalities. So how did the winners finally receive their awards? According to TV Guides oral history about the 2008 Globes, Entourage star Jeremy Piven was given his statuette in his driveway.

And they skipped it again last year, in 2022. See first post for short explanation.

7. Not a Golden Globes nominee? Good luck getting in!

While its one of the most coveted tickets in town, its also one of the hardest to get, especially if youre not nominated. Held annually at the Hiltons International Ballroom, the space holds 111 tables. With 10-12 people seated at each table, that means less than 1,300 people will score invites to one of Hollywoods biggest nights. To compare, the Dolby Theater, which hosts the Academy Awards, seats 3,400 people.

8. The Globes is also the rare awards show with empty seats

Unlike other awards shows, the Golden Globes use no seat fillers. So when Clooney goes up to collect his Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, no seat filler will take his place.

9. The Golden Globe weighs more than you think

When someone wins an award for the first time, he or she generally remarks on heavy the statuette feels. When it comes to the Globes, theres a reason for this, since the trophy weighs 5.5 pounds. To give some perspective, thats about the average weight of a bulldog puppy.

10. The events red carpet is almost as long as Noah's Ark

Noah's Ark, which in Biblical lore housed two of every animal on Earth, is generally considered to have measured 450 feet in length. Keep that in mind when you see the Golden Globe red carpet, since it measures around 437 feet which should be just enough to fit nearly every movie and TV star in Hollywood.

No plans to watch. All of the award shows follow the same boring formula where the host tells a lot of Hollywood inside jokes and the award winners try (mostly unsuccessfully) to be funny. We stayed with out of town relatives over the holidays and they were apparently catching up on several episodes of that series Yellowstone. Had never seen it but have no idea what the critics find so amazing about it. With the needlessly vulgar language it is clearly not appropriate family viewing. It mostly seemed like the typical made for TV movie/series.

Thanks for the invite!! I hope to catch the first half. Unfortunately, Wednesday is one of my work days, so I doubt I make it til the end. I have seen most of the movies, but only The Crown and Abbott Elementary in the TV shows. I do want to watch Wednesday.

Thanks for the invite. Always fun to watch the red carpet.

Yes, unfortunately, it may be a low turn out tonight as people are either getting home during the red carpet, or having to leave before the end as they already got up early and have to again for work tomorrow. What an odd night to have the awards.

Totally agree with this ! I hope I can join for some of it . Thanks for the invite @Imzadi

I loved Sheryl Lee Ralph telling us if something is meant for us it will get to us. Believe it! ❤️

As she said, her sparkly dress is very reminiscent of when she was in Dreamgirls on Broadway. She originated the role of Deena, way before Beyonce played it in the movie.

Loved her dress!

Loved her dress!

I was "window shopping" at Saks Fifth Avenue, in the couture department, decades ago, when those sparkly dresses were in. I lifted one up, on the hanger, (before a sale person could shoo me off, knowing I didn't have the money to buy :lmao:) and man it was heavy! About forty pounds! All those sparkles really weigh a dress down.

Very pretty, but yeah, Not something I would or could ever wear.

I just saw some couple. The wife/girlfriend(?) was wearing an absolutely beautiful white dress, with gorgeous embroidery an flowery appliques on her bodice. It kind of looked like a wedding dress to me? Is there a difference anymore? Other than the occasion one is wearing these dresses to? :confused3

Emma D'arcy wearing the oversized tuxedo jacket and blue gloves is a definite NO for me. :crazy2:
