I sometimes wonder about the combination of information people reveal in these threads and how someone unscrupulous could use it.

Agree & this has been discussed in the past. Several of us have posted on various threads reminding people that giving out personally identifiable information on ANY public website is NOT a good idea (i.e. city where born, mother's maiden name, name of your h.s., etc.........). People just kept posting those answers and seem oblivious to what can go wrong. While the OP who starts such threads may be totally innocent, someone clever enough with bad intentions could certainly gather a LOT of user specific information from what some are posting.

Have you watched any Banana Ball Games? It is like baseball played to the Theme Song from Benny Hill.

I’ve seen a highlight here and there but never seen an actual game. Would like to some day, though.

I do find it funny that even the most innocent of threads can get "derailed" and it turns into a big debate. My favorite ones are ones about parenting and weddings.

The biggest thing I have taken away from the parenting threads as a child free by choice person is that EVERY child is different and requires different parenting skills to guide them to the best fully functioning adult they can be. Even siblings in the same family require different approaches. So it makes me sad when people attack each other’s parenting decisions or infer that their way is the only way. So long as a parent isn’t neglecting or abusing their child according to the law, it’s none of my business what rules they set or how their home life is organized. It would be nice if parents could be more supportive of each other on the internet even if they parent differently. I think they need all the support they can get.

The wedding posts simply amuse me. If I ever get married, I plan to elope. No muss, no fuss, no debates.

I think it is funny that the derailment thread has 5 pages....and now the Admin Close This Thread on the budge board has 18. It is a total train wreck! Fun week on the DIS and it is only Tuesday

The funny thing here, is the derail comment wasn't even really about the off topic forum, at all. That's the point of this forum.

Some posters can't help themselves and take the topic down their own path, get into arguments, and you end up with a pointless thread. When it's a topic to debate, that's one thing. When it's a thread about a specific thing, then, well...lol.

I am convinced some posters have Asperger's and their matter-of-factness comes across in a certain way when it's a text-only medium. Then you've got the ADHD posters that can't stay on topic, it's like worlds colliding.
