The Official Clay Aiken Discussion Thread

OMG I can't believe there's a Clay thread on here - that's so funny! I'm a huge fan and I have been since the begining of AI2. He's such a great guy with an AMAZING voice! I saw himi concert a few times and he really has an incredible voice. I saw him at Z100's Zootopia in 2003 and then I saw him twice on the AI tour (one time I had great seats, and one timeI actually won tickets from Z100 for the 10th row! It was AMAZING!). I also saw him with Kelly Clarkson which was really good. In February when he was on SNL I went to the rehearsal (my dad works at NBC) and we watched him practice his "Trey Aiken" sketch a few times, they did the opening number with Megan Mullaly like 5 times lol and he ran through Invisible and The Way twice each. We then said hi and he was SUCH a nice guy! I actually just read his book this past weekend (I finished it in like 3 hours lmao) and while it had a little too many religious undertones for me, it was really interesting to hear about his life when he was younger and to get some more info on all of the stories he talks about in interviews and everything! My friends been following him around since the summer (for his solo tour) and she has gone to 3 Christmas shows already. I wasn't able to get tickets for them (I was supposed to go to a Cher concert the night of his NY one but the Cher concert was postponed :guilty: lol i LOVE Cher!) I just thought it was funny to find so many pages of discussion on here about him!

I find that Amazon is a pretty good "ruler" as to how his sales are. Just before his special, he was down to abt 17. After the show, it hopped back up to #6. It's still doing pretty well.

It's a great CD! Listening to the 24/7 Christmas music stations, it's really amazing at how much really BAD Christmas music there is.

I'm kind of sad that Diana's CD didn't even break the top 50 her week out. I think she's a sweet girl & hope she does well.

I still don't think Fantasia's CD is selling that well for her 1st time out. Obviously, lots of people voted for her then deserted her. The way Simon & company have "pumped" her, she should be 5x platinum already. I don't even think she's close to selling platinum yet...

I think the problem with singers like Fantasia is that they just aren't "main stream" enough. Yes they may win in a competition, like AI, because of their uniqueness. But when it comes to actually selling CD's and getting radio airplay, that can be a difficut thing.

::yes::

I agree. Plus I think tv viewers don't necessarily translate into music fans, or atleast enough to drop $20 on a cd. AI is popular because it's watching the rhetorical guy down the street sing on national television. Once they go Hollywood, the fun of it dwindles a little, atleast for me.

Well, except in the instance of Clay, although he hasn't really gone "Hollywood". :lovestruc

Clay is doing his signing at the Megastore in Downtown Disney today. My friend is going and better give me a play-by-play report.

But, guys....

Clay.

In Disney World.

I swear I've had dreams like this, except I was in them too...

:faint:
Only 6 more days until I see his Christmas concert!

Clay's book is up to #6 on the NYTimes bestseller list for non-fiction. It was #8 last week.

I must say, I am a bit suprised at how well his book is selling. 4 weeks in the top 10 of the NYT list is pretty darn good! Guess more than the "Claymates" are buying it.

We had Christmas with my mom's family this weekend. My grandparents gave me Clay's book :cool1: :cool1:

For anyone who went to Clay's Christmas concert....

How did people dress?? Normal concert wear? Jeans, cute shirts, etc...? Or, did they dress a little nicer for Christmas and the symphony?

Thanks, Gina

Little bitta everything, really. We saw one woman in, literally, no joke, an EVENING GOWN. Of course, we laughed at her a little bit, but in a nice way. Most people were dressed fairly casual...you can get away with jeans and a sweater or cutesy top. I wore black dress pants and a sweater. Kinda think like you were going to a Broadway show or something, you know? Not as dressy as the ballet or anything, but not quite going to the movies-wear either.

IN OTHER NEWS....

SANTA CAME TO MY HOUSE TODAY!! :cool1:

Courtesy of that friend I told you about who was at the Orlando signing last week! She got a book signed for LITTLE OL' ME!! BY CLAY!! :faint:

I had no idea she was sending it to me, and my mom hid it from me until AFTER I went to the gym, but when I got home...boy oh boy, it was like Christmas morning. I like to stare at where his fingerprints should be.

She also sent me some pictures her daughter took at the event, and a cd she made of all the mp3's from the concert. It's the best Christmas I've gotten in a loooooooooong time, and a total surprise!!

Kylene, that's a great gift! He only signed 300 copies, you know. Maybe after the holidays and his tour is done, he'll do more book signings.

Does anyone know what's up with Hits? I can't view this weeks sales. I keep getting that message that tells you they start reporting 7:30am pst.....

At last, I found some info on the ratings of Clay's special.

Lost was #1 in the time frame with around 16 million viewers. It was the midseason finale. Clay was #2 with 8.2 million viewers. Billboards award show was #3 with 6.7 million.

Rub/Fan/Kelly's special had 5.6 million viewers. I don't know how it placed.

Here's the whole article:

Here is another very cute article from a woman who waited all night for Clay's NC book signing:

Hi gang! Just got back from the show and I have no words other than THUD!!! It's a tough call, but this may be the favorite of the 3 I've seen (different tours, not all just this one! :)). The show was wonderful and at one point (and for all you Pgh people who saw the show too) a guy got on the mic and proposed to his "girlfriend". Well my sister's best friend (who came with us to the show) is a french horn major and her teacher was playing in the symphony with Clay. When he came out we ran into him and he told us the whole proposal was COMPLETELY fake!!! LOL! Best part? The girl he proposed to was actually Jacob's (back up singer) girlfriend!!!! They did all as a joke on Jacob. Her teacher said Jacob's reaction was priceless and everyone on stage was in on the joke. I wish I would have been paying attention! :) I hope everyone who saw it enjoyed it as much as we did!! Now it's off to sweet dreams of Clay!

Hi there PhiSig! I was looking for you at the concert last night, but don't know what you look like! LOL! I really enjoyed the concert too. I took my niece for her early college graduation present. I thought there was something about that proposal that didn't seem right. The guy doing it sounded too rehearsed w/ the microphone. Clay has such a wonderful voice, more so in concert.

lol, I was thinking about you too Shamrock Bunch! Where were your seats? We were in the first row of the Family Circle.

We were in the left section on the floor, row P. Excellent seats. I so wanted to be the one to dance w/ him!

Don't forget, guys!!

You should be starting your Christmas morning with a little bitta Clay on the Early Show, supposedly sometime between 7 and 9.

Of course, after the mishaps with the rest of this week's schedule of Clay appearances, who knows how this one will hash out. It's gonna be a tough one, choosing between possible Clay on the Early Show and the traditional Yule Log....;)
