*** The Official August 2018 Thread*** - let's have some fun....

I love reading the plan specifics from everyone!

8/4: nonstop redeye from LAX to MCO
8/5: land at 6:30 am (brutal), ME to Kidani, Savannah view! :woohoo: California Grill brunch/Jiko dinner. Either AK or pool day...depends on how many mimosas at brunch ;)
8/6: AK, breakfast unknown, Tiffins or Nomad Lounge, ROL
8/7: Our 25th wedding anniversary/ Epcot day. Club 33 (I know, I know, I'm DYING!) Raglan Road then Jock Lindsey's to end the night. :cloud9:
8/8: MK, BoG lunch, Wine Wednesday at AKV, Flying Fish dinner
8/9: DHS, HBD lounge, Yachtsman Steakhouse
8/10: departure day  Up in the air....Boma breakfast, AK or Disney Springs Homecomin'

We are checked in for our flight. Check-in time was during my son's flag football game so I got ECBI. We are in the last half of the A group. Took my son for his haircut yesterday. Last big task is to braid my daughter's hair this afternoon. Children's travel clothes are laid out. I need to decide between the two things I have out and finish up the carry-on bags. Have to wait until someone is in bed to do that.

Whew! This time tomorrow we'll be there. Here's hoping for no flight delays or issues.

Have a great trip!

Just got back from my “practice trip” with my friend. We had to bribe our kids with lots of toys to get away with going adults only! They don’t know yet that they get to go in August! We did two days in the parks - AK (my first time - loved Yak and Yeti, almost yak’ed on Everest), Epcot (loved FEA), and MK (space mountain is way more my speed than Everest!). Fun firsts: ate at Sanaa, flying fish, kona cafe, and liberty tavern. First dole whip. As for summer visiting - it was HOT but manageable (highly recommend the little neck fan), crowds seemed light in AK and Epcot and heavy in MK, and we spent a lot of time dodging rainstorms. Now to wait it out until Aug 18 when we surprise the kids.
8/18 - arrival and AK (contemporary)
8/19 - Epcot
8/20 - dhs
8/21 - mk
8/22- mk and ak. Move to cabana bay
8/23- Universal
8/24 - volcano bay
8/25 - Home 7am flight (ugh)

Glad you had a good trip and to hear you enjoyed Yak & Yeti! I am excited to try it for the first time. We have the same day for DHS and Universal. Maybe Volcano Bay too... We are leaving departure day open to repeat whichever park we decide.

I have tried for days to check my credit card information using my computer - and it ALWAYS tells me it can't verify - tried several CC to no avail. It did work on the app though. Maybe try that.

So I figured out how to do this..

Delete your original card that is in settings on your account. The one you use to make dining reservations and stuff, whatever one is linked on your MDE.

Then put the card you want to use in there.

It automatically put that card as my resort check in card, since the old one was deleted.

So for all the next week people, 60 percent chance of rain Mon. 50 Tues and Wed. 40 Thur and Fri

Not bad Not bad. Seems typical and non tropical

Yep since my dates are 5-10 August I'm now in the window and been watching the extended forecast each day. As of right now each day is almost exactly the same, high around 90 with chance of PM T-storm, lows in the mid 70s overnight. As long as it's not tropical stuff coming through I don't mind the PM hit-or-miss at all.

Not only do we enjoy Disney Springs, we really enjoy the boat ride from POR to Disney Springs. When we stayed at POR, we always got there early afternoon, right around 1:00. We would grab lunch at the Riverside Mill, and then take the boat down to Disney Springs for a bit of shopping, and supper. That ride is so relaxing, it was one of my favorite parts of the vacation, and is truly the one thing I have missed since we started staying offsite.

We tried D-Luxe burger last August, and it was insanely good. Now maybe part of the reason I enjoyed it so much is because I am on a low fat diet, and avoid beef for the most part in order to keep the heart healthy, so a hamburger is a rare treat for me. However, the rest of my family is not on that diet, and they all agreed it was amazing :)[/QUOTE]
ETA- I tried to quote you Tomh but apparently I didn't do it properly? o_O

Glad to hear that you enjoyed D'Luxe Burger. I think that the shakes look delicious too! We will get a couple of fries to share with snack credits - the dips for the fries look yummy.
Our plan is to arrive at PORS around 11:00am (probably won't have a room ready yet) and boat to Disney Springs for WPE meal. Then a bit of swimming at resort, get our room, then off to Trail's End and Magic Kingdom in the evening. Full first day. We never go to a park on arrival day, but we're going to try it this time since we arrive so early in the day.
Really getting crazy excited about our trip. Seroious packing begins tomorrow.

I get it! I stayed at POFQ in March and loved the boat ride to Disney Springs. I really would love to stay there again sometime. It is lovely. Some people do not care for DS, but we always enjoy the dinner options and shopping. The live entertainment they have is a lot of fun too.

No such thing as too many mimosas ;).

Happy Anniversary a 'lil early!

Your 25th anniversary, you are doing Club 33, Raglan Road, and Jock Lindsey's, and you expect to be up and going early enough to do lunch at BoG the next day. I don't think I would make it lol.

Best of luck with the travel plans, and have a GREAT trip!

I actually enjoyed Everest, and I'm not a big coaster fan. FEA is a nice ride, well done. Love Liberty Tree Tavern! We felt the same way last summer about crowds. AK, outside of Pandora, wasn't bad, Epcot wasn't bad, MK was a zoo every time we were there. Sounds like you are ready for your August trip! Also sounds like half of the folks in this thread are going to be in Epcot on the 19th.

All good. I don't recall if anyone in our group tried one of the shakes last year or not. Fries were yummy, burgers were off the hook. We need to start engaging in some of the serious packing!

What has everyone decided to do with regards to housekeeping? I still haven't decided whether to turn it down or not for the gift card. I guess my main concern is the security checks. From what I hear, if you turn down mousekeeping, you will definitely get them. It doesn't bother me unless I am in the room. I don't want someone knocking on the door when we are trying to nap or use the bathroom. Also, my DH and I like to leave the older kids in charge occasionally and go do laundry or refill our mugs at the food court just to have a break from the kids, but I don't want a stranger insisting to come in the room when we are not there.

We are keeping housekeeping. We will be there 13 days; part of vacation for me is having someone else make the beds, take out the trash, clean the bathroom, sweep up the floor, etc. We don't leave a big mess, but I do like coming back to made beds, and my kids love that they arrange their critters on the beds. I have my housekeeping tip envelopes ready to go.

:lmao: True, thats just whats on the agenda! Jock's is more play it by ear now. The Club 33 plans materialized less than a week ago. :thanks: for the anniversary wishes.

We are going to take the credit (we are 10 nights at PORS, so $90). We did it last year when we stayed at POP and it was really easy. We just called housekeeping when we needed towels / shampoo and conditioner / toilet paper and they delivered it. We called in the morning when we went to the park so they would deliver everything while we were away and we'd come back to fresh supplies. We are 4 adults (DD's are 16 and 19) so we can quickly make our beds. We're pretty tidy, and I figure we're just as likely to be interrupted by housekeeping as a room check. It's no big deal to us, so we're taking the money, but I do understand people who want to keep it. When we go to Beach Club for 4 days we'll have housekeeping as there is not an option to turn it down for gift card there. Plus, we'll be club level there and will likely have dirty plates / glasses from the lounge that we'll like housekeeping to deal with there - so we'll tip at BC and use housekeeping.

This is really cool. We always stay DVC at Disney so I didn't realize this was an option. Wish other destinations would make it an option. We rarely opt for daily housekeeping services.

We're here. Got a nice welcome to Florida when we boarded our DME bus with blue skies and puffy white clouds. By the time we pulled on to Disney property we were in the middle of a thunderstorm. It has delayed everything. We have our luggage; but have not gotten our grocery delivery. It is still at Bell services. The CM said it would get delivered after the storm. The storm has been over for about 3 hours; but it is still raining. Also, I guess they are trying to get all of the luggage out. If it stops raining I may go down and get it if they'll let me have a cart. I've got some breakfast items we'll need in the am.

We decided to stay in this evening instead of hitting MK; so we'll use one of our other free days for it. Kids have showered and we've had dinner. We're pretty tired. Dd and I were up until 2am braiding her hair so she is already conked out. Ds finally settled down too. Hoping to join them soon; but I figure as soon as I get in the shower, the groceries will get here. :rotfl:

We are just so glad to be here though. The refurbished room at All-Star Movies is wonderful. We spent some time watching the Disney Resort and Park channels on the television and we're on the first floor. Ds can pull back the curtain and see Woody, Rex and Bo Peep.
