The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

You can use the mcmillan running calculator online to come up w predicted finish times and then you can hope disney uses the same sort of predictor computation to move you up in corral. I know that for me, I estimated 2:45 finish based on my previous wine and dine half and that put me in H. Check the rundisney site or the link on this page a few pages back that will show you the break down of corrals with predicted finish times. I ran a 1:07:32 10k and mcmillan puts that around 2:30 and change. The way disney broke down corrals for this race i will hopefully get to move up to G when i bring my proof of time to the expo. Unfortunately for me, I needed to finish about a minute or so faster to move up to F because the corral jumps from =2:45 (h) <2:45 (g) <2:29 (f). According to mcmillan, a 1:27ish 10k predicts a <3:15 finish (disney corral K), 1:20ish 10k predicts a <3:00 finish (corral J), a 1:15:48 10k is <2:50 (corral I), 1:14 10k works out to =2:45 (corral H), 1:13:47 10k is <2:45 (corral G), 1:06:37 10k is <2:29 (corral F), 1:00:06 10k is <2:15 (corral E), and so on. Sorry I couldn't finish, I have to run! (Not literally. Lol)

Thank you so much for the help!!

Okay 10k did not go as planned. I didn't figure out until last night that the route was along some of the worst hills I have ever have had the pleasure of being acquainted with. And that includes the San Francisco hills I've had the pleasure of running. So yeah no new corral placement for Tinker Bell for this girl. I squeaked in around 1:50ish. Second to last person in front of a guy doing his first 10k and I only got ahead of him on the last down grade.

Also it didn't help that I woke up with the beginnings of a cold this morning. Lovely.

Also lesson of the day: just because it's the race drink and your stomach handled it fine yesterday when you tried it at the store doesn't mean it will like it when you are trying to restore your electrolytes mid races. I got stuck trying some off brand stuff for this race and I've never had a problem with any electrolyte drink during a race until today.

finished the TOT, did pretty well around two hours, now it looks like i need to start training for the last 3 miles

Ran a 15k race this morning. I haven't seen many at that distance so was looking forward to it. Wasn't fast but I only walked 4 times! I forgot my watch so couldn't do my normal run/Walk intervals. After the first mile I got behind a guy doing a good pace for me do just stuck with him the rest of the time. Finished in. 1:27. Big problem was that I crashed again after I was done. Took me about 45 min before could even manage to get to car. Left a nice puddle from my breakfast in the parking lot. So embarrassing but oh we'll, life goes on.

My dad used to say that if u didn't feel sick after a race u didn't run hard enough. Course he ran XC about a million years ago and probably thinking has changed a bit. Anyhow, still a good race time and an experience so way to go?! :)

From the runDisney race instructions - modified since Boston...

So with a little knowledge of what security is looking for...

The small bag as described that folds into itself will probably go unnoticed, especially if packed neatly in between clothing. Thinking that an empty and flat backpack would also be of no harm in the eyes of the folks handling the clear bags, though, I would fold it over a couple times to help demonstrate it is empty. If you stuff on your stuff in the back pack or the backpack seems to have volume, then you are probably going to have a discussion and inspection.

If it were me, I would probably not have the backpack... If I had a spectator coming to the party, I would ask them to carry the empty pack into the party then place my race bag in it there.

If you are like me over a Goofy weekend, and bring your post race drink, your probability of search just went up due to the heavier than other bag weight.

For any bag post Boston, I am not sure that I would tie the strings off until in the hand up area. There you have passed security and are unlikely to have to reopen the bag.

I stopped by and watched the bag check for a while last night. I think the bottom line here is that one should EXPECT your clear plastic bag to be opened and anything in to be looked at. I saw post race clothing out on tables as I passed by.

I do not think this changes what I said previously (other than the unnoticed comment), but expect the handoff lines to take longer than previous years. Like the 5k, the K9 crew was out and about .

Thanks for the update, Coach!

FYI on McMillan: The calculator can produce some aggressive times when computing paces for longer distances, because it assumes you are as well trained for those races as you are for shorter ones. Things tend to balance out only when you're hitting about 70 mpw. Most people don't have the endurance to keep up the half marathon and marathon paces that he suggests. A very few do. YMMV.

I thought about leaving my bag with change of clothes with dh or in the car(in Epcot parking lot). Do you think this would be easier or should I just do bag check?

Last year we left our change of clothes in the car and just went back and changed. We'll be doing that again this year.

Your 10k time might get your moved to F. My friend and I submitted a time of 1:08:20 and we are both in F. it's worth trying. The worst they can say is no.

Should we have already been emailed our bib number and corral placement? My inbox is CRAZY right now and I'm afraid I might have missed something!!

Most likely no. The after party is after normal park operations close for the day. Anything left in the lockers would be removed just after park closing.

Well, shoot. That was going to be my plan. DS and I do not have anyone meeting us at Epcot after the race so looks like we will need to do bag check. I know we will both want a change of clothes after the race.

I have not received an email with this info, but was able to look it up via a link someone provided a few pages back.

Thanks for the info! I'm glad I checked b/c my registration was not showing up, but husband's was. So after an hour on the phone it turns out my name was spelled wrong and my birthday was completely and totally wrong. I'm fairly certain my husband knows how to spell my name and what my birth date is! (He registered us as a surprise to me!) Anyhow, the first person he talked to said to him "Oh sorry. There's nothing we can do...".

so the next person spoken to was a supervisor and she apologized profusely for the situation and said she'd fix it right up. She was very nice. Then when the new email arrived it said I was confirmed for the KIDS races!:lmao: First I was 10 years older than I actually am, and now I'm in the kids races?!

I am hoping this gets fixed before we get there b/c I am going to look very silly running a kids race...then again, I might come in FIRST and win the whole thing!! :goodvibes

Really worried that I've severely injured my hip somehow. I'm seeing a chiro that specializes in runners tomorrow and trying to stay calm.

What are my options if I'm told not to run? With this being the last race of the calendar year, what do I do??????

I think your only option is to defer until 2014's W&D.

Last year we left our change of clothes in the car and just went back and changed. We'll be doing that again this year.

My husband and I are staying at Beach Club. Would we be able to exit the after race party to clean up and change clothes in our room and then reenter the party? Or once you're in are you in for the night?

Oh no. I hope you recover quickly

Find an orthopedic doctor, one who is a runner or works with runners. Go through an x-ray, MRI and any other test. What you want to do is rule out a hard tissue issue and look for joint deformities. Once those are ruled out, then one can deal with how to address soft tissue issues. There is always the option of taking a cortisone injection to relieve the joint inflammation, after hard tissues are determined to be OK. Even if you do not go that route, a course of NSAIDs and rest may get you into the race. You will be well rested albeit a little undertrained. If you are on the course of rest, talk with the doctor to see what workouts you can do. 3-4 weeks of water running will help keep your aerobic levels up.

Get to the doc and then lets talk.

Hi everyone!

I have been absent from the boards for a few weeks and am excited by all the activity recently. :)

I am a producer with a film studio and we have moved into a much bigger office/soundstage recently, and so the last 3 weeks I have not run at all. AT ALL. I feel a little sick to my stomach about it, but starting today I am doing a focused 30 day training regiment to get back into the swing of things. I hope it does some good. I trained about 4 weeks about and was doing pretty good with a consistent 5 miles every other day at about 11 MPM. Hoping I can get back to that and maybe faster.

I am in Corral G bib # 5011 which I think is perfect since I always finish in the 2:30 range.

Excited and nervous about the upcoming race!

- Carey
