I've been meaning to ask about this for awhile now to see if I could get any better information from my DIS'ers.

What is the deal with The Odyssey Restaurant at Epcot? It seems to have been closed for years! What have they been doing with it or what do they plan to do with it?

When was it opened? What was served there? I'm real surprised at how many places at Epcot are just abandoned and seem to serve no purpose anymore. I want Disney to revamp!

They used it for some of the presentations during the wine and food festival.
I also know that they use it for some 'private' paid things like this Magical Gatherings meal they mention on the official Disney website.

My family remembers eating there in the mid to late 1980s. I can't remember the food; I think just non-descript restaurant food. I believe it had a stage on one end where they sometimes had live music.

Here's some info on Odyssey:

Wow! What great and detailed information! Thank you! :) I'm glad to hear they are still using it for something. I figured it didn't have much of a chance as a restaurant with the World Showcase.

it's the cast cafeteria now.

The space that was the Odyssey Restaurant is still there, not really being used for very much. It's possible that some of the kitchen area is currently serving as part of the kitchen for the Cast cafeteria, but I thought that they were actually 2 separate bldgs ... not entirely sure.

The front portion of the Odyssey is still being used for special events and functions, but the back portion is the cast cafeteria. It is all the same building, but the cafeteria portion is in the back area. I vaguley remember the Odyssey when it was open and I believe that the portion that is the Cafeteria was never a guest area anyway. I could be wrong, but you can definetly get there by walking through the main area of the building.
