~*~*~The Oct 2014 waiting patiently (or not so) for a discount thread ~*~*~

FD is based solely on your check in date. As long as you check in on a covered date, you will get FD for up to 14 nights. Room discounts are only applied to the dates covered in the offer. The excluded dates are billed at full price.

You do not need a reservation to book ADR's, simply book those each morning they open up @ 180 days. If your happy paying full price for your room/package then book what you want, but if your planning on adding a discount to your package then you may just be shooting yourself in the foot.

I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly.

If I book my ADR's (no room yet) and Disney later offers FD for that timeframe, then my ADR ressies will not be affected when I eventually book my room at rack rate? Did that make sense?

Anyone remember what the dates were for FD last October? Mousesavers gives the block of dates but not exact Dates. 2nd, do you need just one ticket for the room or everyone in the party need a ticket. We are getting tickets through run disney but will add on a single ticket to get FD if we need to.

Last year's covered October FD dates were Oct 1&2, and 18-31. You must stay a minimum of 3 nights, and every person age 3 and up must purchase a minimum TWO day base ticket.

ditto, beat me to it! (BTW - go FLYERS!)

This is true, I think...but you can't do 180 days prior unless you have a reservation, so don't know what the benefit is.

Is everyone else getting as anxious as I am waiting for a discount?

I keep hoping for a pin (or unique offer as it is called now), but I don't think they have even released any yet for October. I thought I would be fine waiting, but the closer I get to the 180 day mark the more anxious I get :scared1: .

I do not like that you are pretty much required to start making reservations 6 months out for dining in order to get into the places you want, but they do not even release general public discounts until July or August for October stays.

This is the first time I have had to wait so long for a discount. I am starting to get a little discouraged. Not liking this at all :furious: .

Is it true that FD hasn't been available for AoA LM rooms in the past?

If it hasn't been offered in the past, does that suggest that we should choose another resort if we want FD? I'm worried that if we choose AoA and the FD offers are announced (:goodvibes), we would have a hard time switching to another resort. What do you think? FD is definitely worth switching to us.

Also if we think we would prefer the DDP instead of the QSP, does that mean that we should choose a moderate instead of a value? It looks like the cost of upgrading the dining plan is about the same as the cost of switching to a moderate. I'm not sure yet if it's worth it but if it is worth it, is it better to already be in a moderate instead of trying to switch to a moderate? How quickly do things fill up once the FD is announced?

Little Mermaid room have been excluded. If you want the DDP then yes, upgrading at value is about the same as upgrading to a moderate. Let's just hope FD is offered:)

Two days ago I got the Disney "itch". I don't know if it was more hearing about other people's Disney plans, knowing 2 yrs ago this week we were experiencing Disney as a family for the first time, or the snow. Not matter what I decided we must get back!

My plan was Oct 5-12 (DS's bday is the 10th). Now I'm kinda worried. Doesn't seem like many discounts are given that week historically and I didnt realize schools are out then. Is this really as bad of a time as I think?

I'm going to worry myself sick.

You can stay at a value and still get the DDP, you just pay the difference between that and the QSP :)

Little mermaids has always been excluded. Whether you choose a moderate instead or value is really a matter of personal preference. I'm not a moderate lover, the themes don't do it for me. Pretty much either value or spring for the deluxe for us. Again, personal preference!

As far as where to book for now, it doesn't matter. There's a limited number of rooms offered for free dining, having an existing reservation won't change your chance of getting one. Here's what I do. I have a plan for where to stay with no discount. Another for a room only discount. And a final one for free dining. That way when the discounts come out, I can call right away, no stress! Switching resorts is no harder than rebooking at the same resort with a discount.
Hope that helps!

Booking ahead does hurt your chances of getting FD or any discounts. Limited number of rooms offered is exactly that, limited. Why would disney discount rooms already booked? Disney really restricted resorts and rooms the last time offered. Those that waited to book when FD was released had first choice at resorts when they could book online at midnight and those that waited had to wait till 7 am to modify.

In the past adding a discount was so easy and no worry about it, simple just call and get your discount added:). Disney is really trying to cut back offers and discounts so times are a changing for the way we should look at booking our trips. Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

If you book at midnight does that mean midnight in EST?

How much warning do you have that the special is coming? What sites should I be monitoring (besides here) to find out if FD is coming up?

Yes EST, Disney time:) Black562 should post when he knows something. He has been dead on the last few. The midnight thing took everyone by surprise last time so just be prepared. You will know here when it's posted so hang out here and wait with the rest of us. Others will also post when PINS start going out, sometimes they go out ahead of discounts.

Wanted to add, October public release dates are usually late July or early August timeframe. PINS can come earlier.

Also, Disney Visa holders can book before non-visa holders. For most offers. We did this last year for FD for September.

Is it worth it to apply for a Disney Visa? Do you have to book your trip on the Disney Visa?

About ten years ago, I pared down my credit cards and now only have cards with *real* advantages and book everything, except trips to Target, on my Southwest Visa. The Southwest Visa rewards cover about one trip a year for our family.

So I hate to get another card unless there is a very good reason for it.

As far as I know, you have to at least put part of it on the visa. Other benefits we've used included a gift card after 1st use, member only pins (for pin trading), and a free photo of us with Mickey (at a special members only place at Epcot).

We don't carry a balance on the card. Not sure if it's worth getting just for the above.

You just have to put the $200 deposit on it
