The obscure song thread

We haven't done this in a while, so I thought I'd try it again. The idea is to post a line or two from a song that was once popular but may not be so well known anymore (one hit wonders make great candidates for this thread). The one who can post the name of the song and the band who released it then posts a few lines from another song and the process repeats..

Ok, First song. This one comes from the early 80's

"Cant you see, I want to live"
"But you just take more than you give"

I'm not sure I know the name of the song, but is it something like "What About Me?" (it isn't fair, I don't want much, I just want my share...)

I have no clue who sings it...

Don't know if that's right, but here's another lyric:

"I make my living on the evening news
Just give me something, something I can use"

KrnB: You got the title. The song was indeed called What about Me. Just to get things rolling, I'll tell you that the band was called Moving Pictures.

The Lyrics you were looking for were:
"What about me, It isnt fair"
"Ive had enough now I want my share"
"Cant you see, I want to live"
"But you just take more than you give"

It was a great song (even if it was a little bit on the whiney side)
I think I know yours, but I have to go do some laundry, so I will give someone else a shot.

KrnB: Don Henley, 'Dirty Laundry'.

How about this one:

My lips are moving and the sound's coming out
The words are audible but I have my doubts
That you realize
what has been said

KrnB's is "Dirty Laundry" By Don Henley.

"The Commander-in-Chief answers him while chasing a fly
Saying, 'Death to all those who would whimper and cry'
and dropping a barbell he points to the sky
saying, 'The sun's not yellow... it's CHICKEN!' "

Don Henley, isn't it? Can't recall the title though.

Good thread!! Here's one:

Earth below us
drifting falling
floating weightless
calling calling home.

"Major Tom (coming home)" By Peter Schilling

mivvers' is Major Tom by Peter Schilling (I have the tape)

I won't add another since there are 2 in the air still

Tombstone Blues, by Bob Dylan (my brother in law is a big Dylan fan)

How about this one:
"And if some times I cant seem to talk
Its cause this black board lacks a piece of chalk"

Hint: the song was from an early 80's movie that was filmed in black and white.

Don't Box Me In - Stan Ridgeway (Not sure if it was Wall of VooDoo, too)

I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

Oooh, obscure songs.. so far I got them all in my head, and so obscure is good for me...

I would hardly call Major Tom obscure.. that was top 40 radio play....

There were times when I could have strangled her,
But you know I would hate anything to happen to her.
Would you please let me see her.

Peter Gabriel -- In Your Eyes ... great song!

Girlfriend in a Coma by the Smiths .. Cindy B

It wan't Bowie's Major Tom, Schilling's was a little more obscure than that, I thought.:D

In your Eyes was one of the runners ups for my prom theme song...so wouldn't call that obscure either... now... the Laurie Anderson duet with him on that same album.. that is obscure...

Excellent birds.. I can see them now... Watch them fly... that was a little out there....

Quick... Someone post something or this thread is dead!

Laurie Anderson of course!

Here's one for you Cindy!

I've got the ways and means to New Orleans
I'm going down by the river where it's warm and green
I'm going to have a drink and walk around
I've got a lot to think about

LOL I looked straight down to the lyrics ... didn't notice the beginning...

Concrete Blond..some song about Blood/Bloodletting?

I'm more of the early 80's British obscure...

Heres another one.......

I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
but all the people that you made in your image, see
them starving on their feet 'cause they don't get
enough to eat
