Thus far we have had a near perfect trip. Low crowds, mid 80s, pure Disney magic. Thursday finds us headed to MK for Early Entry. It dawns on me as we stand at the gates all by ourselves that something is amiss. That's right, Early Entry for MK is FRIDAY!! It is now 7:30 and the gates open at 9:00. I have to save face with the girls, so I say "Let's ride the Monorail" We proceed to the station and I ask the operator if we can ride up front. Since we are the only ones here, he says yes and we ride the resort loop all the way around. Front row seating. The engineer is nice fellow who has worked for WDW for 8 years, 3 as a Monorail driver. He is counting the days until Eisner leaves. I heard this several times on our trip. I also heard numerous talk of last year's hurricanes and there is still evidence of the destruction.I grew up in So. California and trips to Disneyland were a common occurence. My first trip in 1959 was so magical, I really enjoy the MK as it is a nostolgic trip for me. This park still has Walt Disney's spirit all over it.
I witnessed an interesting sight as we waited for the opening. A new group of CM trainees were standing facing the lagoon and the trainer asked "What do you see?" The answers ranged from water to wedding chapel, etc. He then asked "Do you see a Burger King? a Wal-Mart?" He exsplained the concept of Disney magic and how cars were parked a mile away so we would not be distracted with everyday images. It really hit me how hard they work the magic.
We rode Splash, BTM, Pirates, and Swiss family before 10:00 In all we rode 13 rides by 1:00. Mickey's Philharmagic is another 3D that we enjoyed, several times in fact. Back to Pop for a break and we returned around 6:00. The bus ride back to the resort was great as we had a classic driver who engaged us in trivia and jokes. Do you know why MK and EPCOT each opened on October 1st? Or how much of the WDW property is developed?
We grabbed a Mainstreet curb around 7:30 and had a family from Nebraska on one side and a family chaperoning the marching band on the other. The girls had cinnamon rolls from the bakery and I had to help them finish the rolls.
Oh yes, today I found name badges and had our names engraved. So many CMs called us by name I felt bad for not getting them earlier in the week, but so many clerks never heard of them. Today was the first time we had a negative experience with a CM. At Pecos Bills, the cashier repeatedy interrupted me as I gave our order to yell back to the counter she needed change. We did get served and put it behind us.
The Spectromagic Parade was impressive, up to Disney standards. We had never been to Wishes, so we wandered with the crowds down to the hub and stood directly in front of the castle. Once Wishes started I thought we had a bad location, but it wasn't as our pictures had the Castle outlined by the fireworks. It was an awesome show. I would post pictures if I knew how. We followed the crowd out and watched Mickey wave goodby as we headed for the bus. We got on the second bus and were back at Pop by 10:45. This was my favorite day: The Monorail cab and MK. We are returning the MK tomorrow, our last day in the parks. As sophisticated as the girls try to act, this park returns them to past trips as youngsters and all pretenses are dropped.
Observations: This park (MK) is classic Disney. Don't ride in the front on Splash (A wet camcorder resulted, no damage)
Downers: One day left
