...and my parents are making me go with them and my little sister tonight. :scared1: There's going to be a real spirit medium and everything! I'm really scared, advice?

Bring a camera and a tape recorder!

So where is it? Somewhere in Ohio, I assume, but is a house? A cemetery? Hotel? Do share!

Funny, I was just in the basement putting laundry in the washer and I got spooked. Basements have bothered me all my life.

I say not to go because it's understandable to be scared. My views are based on the Bible, Deuteronomy 18:10-12, for one...

"There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,

or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

For whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD your God does drive them out from before you."

I hope that it's okay to mention Scripture since it's a religious topic, which I understand are (wisely, imo) not allowed here. But you asked for thoughts about a haunted building to which you are afraid to go... and this is the basis for my thoughts.

Can't you just tell your parents that you don't want to go?

Are those like the "real" character in WDW?

Go and laugh. Pretend to see things that aren't there like everyone else. Have fun with it.

What does that mean?

What does that mean?

:teacher: Good question! I'm not entirely sure what the second bolded part means. The rest is pretty clear but that part has me putting on my thinking cap.

I think that it means that those who practice sorcery, etc. are "driven out" from before those who wisely avoid such things... meaning that the Lord removes them from His kingdom, because they have turned their backs on Him and turn to clairvoyants, instead.

Christians are admonished that we are exhibiting a lack of faith in God's providence when we seek out contacting the dead or predicting the future, etc...

Again, I apologize very much if this subject is a no-no. It is not my intent to force my beliefs on anyone. I just don't know how to respond to this topic without coming from a religious perspective. Please know that I mean no disrespect to those of other beliefs.

Dont apologize! I was not offended at all, I really was curious. It makes me think I'd rather have no part of it either

Whew! I'm very glad that I haven't offended you. I just hope that's the case for everyone else! :flower3:

I was thinking, "What does that mean? Well, clearly it means... that, um... you see, God... uhhh... well, clearly... um... He doesn't like it!".

You really made me think and I appreciate that!!

is it Rogue's Hollow????? i grew up in Ohio and remember that spooky place. It was the first thing that came to my mind when i saw the OP is from Ohio.

Are you going to the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield? My DH and a bunch of other family members just sent in all their forms and payment to go on a ghost hunt there in April. Sounds like fun but even ghost movie commercials scare the crap out of me so I am staying home.
If that is where you are going let me know how it is.

Can I go? :) Seriously, be curious (but not gullible) and just enjoy it. Nothing is likely to happen to you and you might even learn something. Also, don't get hung up in the religious stuff (isn't that against the rules?) unless that's how you roll.

And please report what you see!

Agreed.
And wear Depends.

If I were really scared, I wouldn't go - and if you were my child, I wouldn't force you to go..

Personally, I think it would be fun..:goodvibes

Why on earth are they MAKING you go?

For the record, the people who host these things, the mediums etc make ALLOT of money convincing people who want to believe them that there really are spirits. I went to one when I was young and distinctly remember how important it was for the 'medium' to know the names of everyone with me and my address. Judging by what he said I think his revelations came from him getting a hold of my schools yearbook, driving by my house and reading me really well. Now with our entire lives on-line I bet they are even better at guessing our lives. Don't be scared, think of it as a show and it will lose all its power over you... just try really hard not to get caught up in the feelings of the people around you. Since they WANT to be scared it's a safe bet they WILL be scared and imagine all sorts of silliness. If you can remain an observer looking for the flaws in the performance you'll laugh your head off... seriously:grouphug:

I don't know what to think about mediums. Many if not most are charlatans of course but there's those few who charge nothing and help the police.... I don't know.

Again, just go with the flow.

Don't worry. Ghost Whisperer is on tonight. Maybe you can take notes to bring with you. :scared1:

Several years ago, DH and I were in Lousiana and decided to visit some plantations. One was The Myrtles. I knew NOTHING about its history of hauntings....We just thought it looked pretty. :rotfl: At that time, there were two different tours. One was historical and the other was the ghost/haunted tour. They got government funding for the historical tour and on those days, could not mention or even answer question regarding ghosts/hauntings, or they'd lose the funding.

I'm petite and so DH and I usually stand close to the tour guide so I can see/hear what's being said. There was a good size group in our tour and we had stopped for him to tell us something. Suddenly, I got a feeling that is hard to describe. To say it was panic or a sense of impending dread is putting it mildly. Imagine you were somewhere when someone started shooting and your heart started pounding while your brain told you, "Get out! Hurry! Fast! Get out! Get out!" That's how it felt.

I had an emotional and physical repsonse that basically alerted my flight response and I told DH, "Back up and get out of here" and we very quickly made our way through the crowd to get away from the spot where I'd had that horrible sensation. DH asked me what was wrong and I told him I'd just had to get away from where I was standing and in a hurry. I was fine, even a few feet away. The tour continued, then ended and we went on our way.

About 18 months later, we were watching TV and a show came on featuring The Myrtles, among other places. They started telling about its various reported hauntings and showing the locations where these have been sighted. They started talking about another one and the camera panned to the very spot where I'd been standing when I got the overwhelming need to get the hell outta there and explained that it was one of the most haunted spots in the entire plantation. That spot. ACK!!!!!!

I will not return for the offical ghost tour.

A few co-worker's and I are planning on taking a trip there next summer. We are trying to plan ahead because we know the slots sell out fast and book months in advance and since we reside in GA, it's gonna be a few days trip. I grew up in Ohio and can't believe I never made a trip there. I think it's gonna be a blast. We've been on a few ghost tours here in Savannah and caught a few things on film. Really is quite fascinating.
