The next DVC resort will be...

I can't imagine that DVC would do a "value" DVC and allow trading into the deluxes....nope....I'm guessing this is someone's idea of a bad joke, or just wishful rumors started by someone who can't afford DVC.

I heard this rumor about a year ago. It is possible; especially with the value accommodations going up at Flamingo Crossing. We don't know what those are going to look like at this point.

What would stop Disney from building a value line of DVC?

I had seen this rumor on another site awhile back. That site was reporting that the Pop Century DVC would be a different level of DVC and that our points would either not be accepted there, or there would be a higher point requirement for us than the value DVC members, much like a trade into anyother Disney non-DVC resort.

At this point who knows what will happen, but I suspect that Doconeill is correct in that these will be family suites through CRO. As a side note, there are photos on YouTube (I think) that show the insides of those vacant buildings. They look as though they need to be torn down and started all over if they are going to be anything other than like the family suites at AS.

Here you go:

If the points were low enough, I'd stay there sometimes. Wouldn't buy there though......

Maybe it is just because it is the middle of the night here, but I just watched that YouTube video of the vacant, partially built Pop and it was spoooooky! I had heard the rumors that they were going to finish it, but I had no idea how really far along it already was. And then for some reason they just completely abandoned it ... really creepy! It reminds me of those movies where the whole town is deserted because of some invasion or disease; it is just so weird to see it so close to completion (they even had some of the decor elements done) but so very empty. And I'm also a little surprised that even though there doesn't appear to be any "security," that the walls aren't all full of graffitti and the windows aren't broken. I would think it would be full of vagrants and teenagers; I know Florida has a huge homeless problem so it is surprising that this "shelter" has not been overrun. Too weird!

Oh, and as for it being DVC or there ever being a Value DVC Resort, count me out! I would be much happier with DVC going the other direction; give me more luxury, please!

well Marriott did not do as well with their value - Horizons - since DVC does follow the rest of the markets in most things.

don't think they will even try it.

now they might - but not until they have sold out of the deluxe DVC - which will take them a few years - especially if they put one at the Polyn and GF.

the suites at Pop is just a rumor too -although a nice one.

until WDW gets through their 5 years plan - promise stockholders for 5 years no new WDW resort. (now would not consider Pop new - but stockholders might)

DVC resorts are the exception - first Disney gets the pay back immediately so no waiting years for a good return. then they get to charge us a fee for the rest of the time we own that contract.

This has been a rumor for about two years.

Actually the rumor is more like 6-7 years old...dating back to when they first mothballed construction at that site. There were indications that Disney really was considering this, but how seriously we may never know.

I really wouldn't mind a DVC resort at the POP location. It is certainly the nicest of the Value resorts, and the DVC side could be themed well. It would have to pretty much be a stand alone condo style DVC, connected to the existing POP side only by the bridge. It wouldn't take a lot of remodeling to repurpose part of the existing food court building into a table service restaurant. If they had OKW sized rooms, I'd stay there.

From what I recall, 9/11 put a halt on the plans for this part of PC. Occupany was too low for WDW value resorts at that time - and they just dropped construction on it. We've driven by and seen this scary building - it does look creepy.

Given what the building was designed for, it really isn't likely to be turned into a DVC resort.

a value DVC with OKW sized rooms - that doesn't work.

OKW sized rooms are what makes OKW - OKW and it is certainly not a value resort.

for a value DVC resort would expect much smaller rooms.

Who said the DVC portion would have to be classed as a "value" resort? I was talking about location, not amenities. Just because it shares a lake view with POP doesn't mean it would be a "value" DVC. As I said, they could easily add a nice Table Service restauraunt in the existing check-in/store/food court/video arcade building. Add a really nice pool, plus "neighborhood" pools and put a key card gate on the DVC side of the bridge. They could have room service AND pizza delivery onsite. The location is closer to MGM and AK then either OKW or SSR. Some Victorian or Art Deco theming (or even both, they could even do a "decades" style for each set of buildings to keep the original early 20th Century Legendary Years theme. Dedicated busses, not sharing with the current POP.

I'm waiting for a POR DVC that sells for $60/pt., and has really great point charts like 4 or 5 points per night for a studio in adventure season, etc.

Of course, I also miss POR a little bit since purchasing DVC. :sad1:

We're DVC, and we're staying at POR in April to save a few points...so you don't have to miss it that bad...

OK, let me get this straight. We've got AKL for sale right now, BLT for sale, GCV for sale. SSR finally sold out. Hawaii was just announced. Now we're looking at POP? Is DVC getting too big? Biting off more then the market can handle?

I somehow doubt it. They keep selling {overselling} and selling {overselling}. It's why it is getting harder and harder to get a reservation .

Is GCV selling yet? Hawaii is in the pipeline still as well, and SSR may or may not be sold out at the moment, but I expect more points to be put on the market for the THVs.

But as far as overselling - the goal of ANY resort, timeshare or otherwise, is 100% occupancy 100% of the time (not including maintenance reserve, etc.), which implies that some people just aren't going to get a reservation for the times they want.

I don't know how many points are in the system vs. the total number of points available for reservations over a year for 100% occupancy, so I don't know what the DVC "goal" is exactly, but eventually DVC will either be "sold out", where any reservations will be difficult, or forever building/selling to leave some wiggle room, at least until contracts begin to expire and they can start reselling the older resorts.

Its the drawback of a points-based flex system. With a week-based system, you always have the same week - but you KNOW you have that week.
