The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Melessa- that is exactly what we are doing. Supplementing... i supplement around 10-11am and again at about 8-9pm.

Im having a hard time feeding him often because he sleeps so much- or has no desire to eat. And when he gets those two bottles its as if its intoxicating to him.

Im going to buy a pump today (electric). He nurses great on my right side, but never on my left. It always feels full and if anything i need some relief. Id also like to know how much im producing so i can give that to him in a bottle if need be instead of formula.

I have the medela pump n style. it works great. especially when i only have a short time to pump while at work.

glad things are going better.

you are good to introduce formula early i think. i didn't until about 3 weeks ago and now allison won't drink it unless it is mixed with some breast milk. she knows it's not the GOOD stuff! hehe

K ladies I need advice. Lily will sleep for 4-5 hours ON me but only max an hour anywhere else. Plus she is imposible to get back to sleep anywhere but on me.

Last night we tried to force her to sleep in the bassinet, but it was horrible and she's still crabby.

Do you all think it's still early enough for me not to spoil her? She's getting close to being too big for this to be comfortable for either of us...

another BF question...

jake will suck hard for only a short while then its a really weak suck. anyone esle had this with a newborn? ill go to ake him off and he picks up sucking only to go real slow again. is this normal or do they suck vigurously like with a bottle??

also he seems almost intoxicated when he takes a bottle. Its like his belly gets full all at once, whereas when i breastfeed hes constantly feeding and never has his belly all full at one time (or so it seems).

sorry im one handed right now. looking forward to feedback..

also hes eating all the time just weak sucking... for 1 hr plus (lots of pauses though)....normal?

i pull him off he starts suckinghis hand. i dont hear much swallowing after the first bit although the latch seems good...but i pull him off and my ****s have milk and he will have a lil in his mouth.

this bf thing is hard-lol esp to fgure out. seems like jake is a lazy eater. but he sucks those bottles dry quick. he did this before bottles too.

got the madela in syle pump last night will try it tonight

Maggie, I wish I had some advice. Katie is just a really good nurser. Just try to hang in there-it really is worth it! I love my Medela Pump in Style. I pump 10-16 oz every morning during my planning pd, then another 4-6 oz at lunch. Katie has never had formula, because she only takes 3 bottles at daycare, and I can pump more than enough for that. With ds12, I had a cheap Walmart pump, and I did have to supplement (not to mention my grandmother was throwing out some of the milk I did pump and feeding him regular cows' milk:mad:).

Sarah, again I will be no help. Katie sleeps with me. The first night home, I was determined to make her sleep in her bassinet, but she screamed all night. After that, we gave up (she won;)) and she has slept with me for 4 mos. She sleeps great most of the time, though. She will take short naps in her crib, but never over an hour.

Hi ladies! Care if I join you guys? I'm Chanon and the newest edition to our family is Alex, born on 9/15.

Thanks Melissa!

Right now we are working on his dry skin - he seems to be peeling everywhere and Johnson's isn't working. I may go buy some Eucherin (sp?) and see if that might help some, I'm not sure if I can wait until his first doctor's appointment on the 24th. Or we can just keep trying the Johnson's...

BF is just plain odd...I think my letdown is really fast because he's been choking about halfway through so I'm trying to work on burping him at that point to give him a break. He seems like a great nurser, but he likes to "play" and because of that I have to roll up a cloth diaper under the b**b and he's been wearing a bib. I can't wait until my body gets under some control and stops leaking! It takes a few times to latch properly, and he was doing tons of pauses during but it helps when I rub his back...not sure if it's just the touch or if it kind of wakes him up again to keep on nursing.

Oh! And for those with boys - why didn't anyone tell me about this ring thing with the circ? I never read about it anywhere and it looks really odd...

Katie peeled the whole first month. I kept lotion on it, and it finally went away.

Good luck on getting the leaking under control. I need to change shirts right now! We went to church, then visited all day, and she didn't nurse well. When she finally nursed a min ago, I unleashed way too much for her!

Ladies, I am still trying to get to work on my Catholic immersion project. I'll try to send out an email this week! I just don't know when to get it all done!

What ring thing?

We think Lucas' circ looks funky. Our pediatrician said "it's the new way of doing things" or something. I plan to ask more specifics because it just looks funky to both of us. He still has some foreskin left.

With my son they put the clear plastic ring thing for his circ. I think it fell off about a week or so. I dont' really remember, I think it might have helped with holding the skin back so it doesn't grow back.

Yep, that's it. It's a ring that looks like it was used to help the healing site. I just had never heard of it so it was odd to see. You apparently don't have to use anything on it, just keep it clean and dry. Here I was expecting to use Vasaline or something...

Hmmm.. Lucas didn't have that. So I guess that explains why I wasn't sure what it was. :)

He's been really, really fussy lately. A lot more than normal. He's also coughing a ton. I'm debating making a sick call to the pediatrician, even though his 4month is October 5th.
For $10 bucks I feel like I should just bite the bullett and have them take a look and make sure he's good.

Welcome, Chanon. Congrats on baby Alex. Both of my boys peeled a lot on their wrists, ankles, and neck. We just wiped it away with a warm wash cloth once it started to fall off. We didn't have a plastic ring for either circ, just a little ring of gauze that fell off the next day or so.

Again I say it is CRAZY how different things are.

Lucas had nothing. Nothing at all.

This is totally normal. Ainsley (who is now almost 11 weeks) would fall asleep at the breast a lot in the beginning. It's warm and comfy. To keep her sucking I would tickle her feet, rub her back, pump her arms. I would take her off to burp. Breast massage/compressions worked best because it kept the flow up and she would be rewarded for her efforts. We didn't give her a bottle in the first few weeks so I'm not sure if the bottle would be different. But I'm sure they enjoy having the constant flow versus the breast.

By 6 weeks it got a lot better. I still need to make sure she's getting a full feeding versus comfort sucking. Once I know she's just comfort sucking I try to give her a paci or her hand to suck on.

I have pictures!!

Jasmine... she snorts when she makes this face. I love it!

They are soooo cute!!

I'm in a hurry (the babysitter is actually here to watch Lucas for my class... that started 5 minutes ago :rotfl:) but anyway...

Rite Aid (can't remember who has one of those) has a Huggies deal right now.

They are 3/$33 with a $10 single check rebate (enter info from receipt on website, they mail you a check.) (So 3/$23)
There is a $5/$25 printable coupon here: http://offers.riteportal.com/760/ecoup_S525.pdf (So 3/$18)
You'll also get a rebate "gift certificate" for spending the money because of this deal: https://riteaid.rebateplus.com/fall/default.asp?jse=yes (So 3/$13)

Plus you can use any coupons you want on top of it... for extra savings.

HTH someone.

Oh how cute! The twins have gotten so big! What an adorable pair they are!

I hope all of the new mothers are doing well. I miss this site...I used to be on mulitple times a day, now it's more like once a month.

How early did your babies start pulling themselves up and walking along the couch? Luca is only 7 1/2 months and doing this already, and it's making me really nervous. It doesn't help that he's not sleeping through the night yet....and I really MISS SLEEP!!!!:rotfl:

Wow! That's good for 7 months. Well, good for him... maybe not for your sanity! ;) My oldest didn't start pulling up until about 9 months and then didn't walk along the couch or table much at all. He would just pull himself up and stand there. Then one day, he just let go and walked. That was just before his first birthday. I can't wait to see what his little brother will be up to in the upcoming months. He's almost turned over a few times, but got stuck and wailed for help.

Piecey - Too bad I don't have Riteaid. That is a good deal for diapers. I am a little ticked at Target right now. I've been using their brand diapers for my oldest and wanted to get the youngest some size 2s since I'm all out of my stockpile since he was born. The aren't selling the size 1s or 2s in the mega (so the boxed). Only 3, 4, 5, and 6. I wrote them an email and they said they are currently looking into expanding the line because of all the requests, but I'll believe that when I see the diapers on the shelf.

We went to Big Lots the other day and they are having a clearance of Longs Drugs (CVS bought them) so their drugstore price is 70% off. They have their brand of children's Tylenol for $1.50 for the 4 ounce bottle. We stocked up since it doesn't expire until 2011. I also got a temporal thermometer for $10, and some Huggies Nightime bathwash.

This probably won't help, but I walked at 9months. Sounds like he is on the way to following after me.
'Cause you know, he would follow after a perfect stranger from the internet and all. :rolleyes1

That stinks you guys don't have a Rite Aid!
I just did a round, thinking about going back and using my parents address but I'm just not sure we need anymore diapers. I do know there will be a #2 though, so I think I probably will.
With the coupons I had I got 3 packages for $13.31 (w/ tax!) and I'll get the $10 rebate...
Makes it even sweeter that to pay I used the $25 GC they mailed me for spending $50 on Huggies products a few months ago.

Sorry I'm riding the couponing high lol!
