Oh you had me laughing....I felt the SAME way when we had a room on the East wing with balcony, by the end of our 10 night trip I was wondering if the view of Illuminations was worth the walk back every night! For our family, we decided not! Now I request, Central high floor.
I'm glad it wasn't just me. It got to the point where I told my DH "Go on...save yourself! I'll just sleep here by the ice machine!" :rotfl:

And the thing is...we were never in the room at 9pm to watch Illuminations. We were either in Epcot, watching it in World Showcase, or at the MK or HS, watching Wishes or Fantasmic.

Another plus of the Swan.
At 1:45am, after a MK EMH, a huge, HUGE plus! :thumbsup2

On our last trip at BWV we shipped back a box of souvenirs. I was able to buy the box from the business center and then drop it off to be shipped on our last day.

Is there a similar service available at S/D?
I don't have any personal experience with this, but I'd imagine that a resort with a full-service business center should be able to accommodate you. I'm sure an email or phone call can set the record straight.

To be honest, I think you'd have more success just requesting something like "the highest floor with a balcony that faces Epcot"...assuming, of course, that you've paid for that category room.

For what it's worth, though, this is the view we had in '09 from room #2017 in the East Wing, facing the Y&BC and Epcot:

Room2017.jpg

Pretty view, but we were the second-to-last room in that hallway and it felt like the Bataan Death March walking back to our room at the end of a long day of touring the parks!

That's one of the reasons we stay at the Swan now...much shorter hallways, LOL.

Did that room have a balcony, and how many beds?:surfweb:

Yes. We shipped 3 boxes home last year

I am staying at the Swan & Dolphin for the first time with my DH and toddler in November. I plan on spending some time out on the beach/playground area with our daughter while DH attends his conference. Does that area have any sand toys available or would we need to buy/bring our own? Thanks!

I don't recall there being toys.

sorry to ask this again but.... what exactly is the AAA discount for restaurants at S/D? Would like to eat at Ill Mulino is that excluded?

Thanks. :goodvibes

I do believe Il Mulino, Shulas, Kimonos and Bluezoo all do not take the AAA discount. I think all the other restaurants do and it is 20% as far as I know.

Those signature restaurants do take the Tables in Wonderland card, available to annual passholders. They also take the www.restaurant.com discounts. See Mary's writeup here...

http://www.mousesavers.com/meals.html#coupons

Restaurant.com generally has a code running, normally 70-80%, as high as 90%. Right now it is 50%. 50% is about as low as it goes. If you don't need right away, I would register on the site, and they will email you when new codes are released.

Well, I'm sad to say I had my first bad experience with the Dolphin. :( However, it won't keep me from coming back because I just KNOW it had to be an anomaly.

First off, we checked in fine but got up to the room and none of the 4 keys we got worked, so I had to go back down and get more keys. Then, when we finally got in the room, I was IMMEDIATELY blown back by the level of humidity and mildew smell in the room. I thought it might be because the A/C was not turned down (cold) enough, so I cranked it to hopefully dry it off. I even used the AC override tips from this thread! We left and went down to dinner at Fresh (which was fantastic!) and when we returned to the room, around 10pm and there was NO improvement. At this point, we were all very tired, including my 5 year old, so we just got ready for bed.

I was in a deluxe room which had a pull-out couch and when we pulled it out, there were no sheets on the mattress, nor were there any in any closet, so we had to call housekeeping to bring some up, which they did. Twice. :confused3 When they came up, we asked if we could get a dehumidifier, but they said we'd have to call maintenance. By this time, it was already after 11pm and my child was asleep and I didn't want anymore interruptions.

As a result of this ridiculous humidity/mugginess in the room, I slept horribly. Mostly because I was just so mad and embarrassed (I had my sister and friend in the room with us) because I had talked up the quality of this hotel so much. And I needed my sleep, too, because I was running the Wine & Dine Half Marathon the next night, so rest was everything. I got up early the next morning and went downstairs to see if there was anything that could be done.

I explained that I typically don't complain - which is true - but this was just too much. I wanted to be moved to a room that didn't have this problem. The girl at the desk was PHENOMENAL and moved us to a newer, renovated room, with the only other difference that we had a king bed instead of two doubles. (And that was no problem since my DD liked sleeping with mommy & daddy!) We were told that they would move our things from the bad room to the new room, so we went out to start our day in a much better mood. First, we went on to ESPN WWoS so my daughter could run her Kid's Race, followed by a trip to Downtown Disney for lunch and a little shopping. Lastly, we went over to Shades of Green to buy tickets and items in the shoppette and went back to the Dolphin to rest up for the Half Marathon.

It was about 2pm and I went to the desk to see if our new room was ready. Sadly, I didn't get the same phenomenal front desk clerk, as she tersely told me the new room wasn't ready yet and we could wait in our old room until the new one was ready. We went back up there and it was too unbearable to stay so we went and sat in the lobby. Needless to say, this wasn't the restful way I wanted to spend my afternoon - I needed a NAP!!! I checked again with the front desk at 3pm and they told me the new room was finally ready and we went and moved our own things.

The newer room was MUCH better - NO humidity at all!! We had to call again for the sheets, only this time it took 3 phone calls for the sheets to actually make it up to the room. (At least it wasn't at 11pm!!) The rest of the stay was as expected - I just wish I had gotten this room to begin with.

Moral of the story - if they try to put me in 4042 again, I will politely slide the keys across the counter and say, "No thanks. Been there - done that!!" For the record, this was one of those 'award winning' views of the dumpsters/delivery area, but honestly, the view was of no significance to me. The view was a little better in the new room, but again, not an important issue for me.

I went ahead and booked another room for my 40th birthday weekend next month. I mentioned my birthday when I booked, but I plan to send a message ahead of time, just to ensure it's noted in my reservation. :)

wow, sorry to hear of your experience. I am very sensitive to musty smells so I know that would have really bothered me! Not that this has anything to do with the smell but having got that dumpster view we all dread I must ask had you reserved a "limited/standard view" ??

We had the same muggy musty experience with a standard room in that area in April. Had to fight with the front desk to be moved. The musty smell was very bad and we have an asthmatic child. I wonder many of the rooms it that wing have issues?? I can not remember the room number but the bellman who was helping with our luggage told us everyone he brings up there turns around and asks for another room. After quite an ordeal they moved us to the other side of the building and we had a great stay after that.

I don't really get to pick a 'view' with the rate I book (I don't think, at least), which is the "TROOPS" rate, since I'm in the Air Force. I was more interested in getting a particular room type (deluxe alcove) vs. view.

Can someone please verify the parking charge, resort charge? Are they separate charges and how much? We won't have a car, so am I correct to assume we will not be charged a parking fee?

We are staying at another Disney property to take advantage of the Magical Express and luggage being moved.

We certainly do not want musty, humidity and would like a better room obviously with a view. We selected resort view, with balcony, two doubles as we are a party of 5 and humid definitely will not do. Could anyone suggest a room sequence? It will be at xmas and this is our first time, so, of course, everyone wants "the view."

Also, the other day purchased $25 gift certificates for Shulas, Blue Zoo, and the other Italian restaurant (sorry I can't remember the name) for $1.50 at Restaurant.com. Yes, it works. Tried it in Chicago at the House of Blues and it was great.

Thanks for any and all help.:wizard::wizard:

Yes, the resort and parking fees are separate. The resort fee is $12/day and I believe the parking fee is $11/day for self-park and $18/day for valet, but we never rent a car, so can't say from personal experience.

Some room numbers and corresponding views can be found on the previous page, and also on the Swan/Dolphin Picture Thread. Of course, the views depend on what category room you've booked...a resort view with balcony will be in one of the 'wings' of the Dolphin and your view will be of other parts of the Dolphin and/or looking across at the Swan.

As for a humid room, obviously it happens occasionally. My only suggestion is to let the hotel know immediately if you're unhappy with the room. Check the A/C, the bathroom, dresser drawers, closet, safe, bedding. If it's not to your liking, it's been my experience that they will do everything they can to accommodate your requests.

I had a dumpster view in room 7042 and I think I reserved limited/standard view. I actually booked it through Travelocity when they had a great sale, and I guess you get what you pay for!

Are all the suites in the Dolphin located in the center triangular area in center of hotel? If so what is the best side to request when we get there?

I just booked the Dolphin at the 159 rate (for limited view/no balcony) for a total of 1336 for 7 nights. I think this is a great deal. My question is, would you pay an extra $50 a night for a resort view w balcony? I really would like a balcony since we have 2 kids. I can call and change it, not sure what to do. We are starwood preferred plus so it is possible (but not guarenteed) that we can get upgraded. WWYD?

I guess it depends on how much time you will be in the resort. You are there for 7 days so are you spending a lot of time at the Dolphin? If so then $50 might be worth it.

Just back from an awesome 6 night stay at the Dolphin!! It was our first time there and I can already tell you that the Dolphin is definitely where we'll be staying for our future trips!! A quick review of sorts:

Check In: Arrived around 6pm last Wednesday and was the only person in line. Fast, friendly and efficient! Was given Room #4199, resort view with king bed.

Room: Spacious, clean and actually had a pretty nice view of the beach area and part of the Swan. Nothing beats a Heavenly Bed at the end of a long park touring day (or bar touring day as most turned out). Housekeeping was top notch, we left at different times each day (once not until 2pm) and were never bothered by knocking at the door...but always came back to a freshly clean room. Aside from the super comfy king bed, we had a couch, flat panel HDTV, mini-fridge, desk, nice bathroom and an additional area adjacent to the bathroom where another person could get ready. True that there was no Disney theme in the room (or much of the resort) but that totally did not bother us...we'll take a comfy clean bed without Mickey sheets any day of the week. We barely heard any noise all week, with the exception of a few people in the halls coming in and out of their rooms...but never any noise coming from the rooms themselves.

Resort Fee: I've heard the grumblings about the resort fee which is $12 each day, but it actually isn't that bad when you consider that you get two bottles of water daily (and yes they were restocked every day), very speedy internet service (I downloaded a few things there and was hitting appx .5MB consistently) and use of the fitness center. The fitness center is nice, they give you free towels and water..and have a very wide variety of equipment (ellipticals, treadmills, dumbell weights, full set of Nautilus style machines, separate room for pilates/yoga/core style workouts and a 'locker room' for changing and restrooms). All in all a great deal IMO.

Pool Bar: OK, so the best hidden secret in all of WDW is the Dolphin Pool Bar!!! :thumbsup2 Seriously...they pour STRONG drinks there, have an awesome original and fresh food menu...in fact the food and drink menu was specifically created just for them and featured some unique twists on classic drinks...heck they even infuse their own liquor!! It's also nice that when you hear "whatta you have on draft" the names "Budweiser" "Miller" and "Coors" were never mentioned...the bartenders (who are amazing) actually provided a brief description of each craft beer and would let you sample without hesitation. They also had specially created food menus for Sunday football games, along with those huge zillion ounce beer draft things that come in football helmets. Anyway, I cannot say enough about this bar, love love love it!

Pool: The pool area was fantastic! A lap pool, youngster pool, regular pool with waterfall and water slide...beach complete with volleyball nets, soccer goals and hammocks...a sand play area for the kids...water volleyball net..multiple hot tubs...and poolside drink/food service! We loved our time there and can't say enough great things about it!

Lobby Lounge: Want some great late night fun with the convention folks? The Lobby Lounge was hopping each night and was nice to have around with most of the parks and restaurants shutting down early.

Bluezoo, Kimonos, the Fountain: Kimonos (Swan) had super fresh and delicious sushi (amazing seared Grouper appetizer, scallop and yellowtail sashimi)...drinks and Oysters at Bluezoo were top notch as expected...and even a quick lunch at the Fountain cafe was pretty good!

Summary: As you can see, we had an awesome, flawless stay at the Dolphin and recommend it to anyone. You simply cannot beat the location, price, food, bars and amenities!!

Since we all like to see the view from different rooms...here are a couple shots from 4199:
