The new rides - what are the thrill levels?

There are many new rides that I know nothing about. My kids are 20, 18 and 15. The 20 and 15 year old will ride anything. The 18 year old does NOT like scary. The last time we were at Disney was 2016, so she was 12. She will not do Splash. This is her on 7DMT in 2016 (the blue tank). She liked it, but was quite scared. LOL. These are the rides that I have no idea about:
  • Rise
  • Smugglers
  • SDD - I THINK this is similar to 7DMT?
  • Remys
  • Guardian
Are these fun? Or thrill?

Thanks!

  • Rise - Ride Runaway Railway First, if she likes that, she will like Rise
  • Smugglers - Upgraded Star Tours w/ levers. Fun, but not too intense.
  • SDD - I THINK this is similar to 7DMT? Less intense than Seven Dwarves. Launch is fun but not too fast. Often describe to friends as "A good first time roller coaster for kids"
  • Remys - Not a thrill ride, similar to Runaway Railway, Definitely a good one to do.
  • Guardian - Roller coaster so definitely a thrill ride. No big drops and all indoors. no inversions. Does have a backwards launch. Ride doesn't go backwards much other than launch.
Hope this helps!

The only ride on the list that I would consider a thrill ride would be GOG.

My 7 year old is a big time ride chicken but he loves all the rides on your list except GOG. We didn't take him on GOG because he just wouldn't survive.

Yes - VERY helpful. But....it appears I've missed a new ride. What is Ride Runaway?
Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway (Hollywood Studios), Rise of the Resistance (Studios), and Remy's (Epcot) are all the same type of ride which uses trackless technology. Each of the vehicles talks to one another during the ride to decide where the vehicle is going to go/what path to follow.

Runaway Railway is the easiest of the 3 to get on as the ride has been around quite some time and has the best capacity. While none of them are "intense" Rise of the resistance is a bit more so than the other two due to a small simulated Drop on the ride that can be frightening for some.

This is great comparison info.
Some of the advice may help if we know what makes the rides too much.
Will add one more note to Guardians - It's dark, like Space or RnR. Not as dark but dark. Like a much more smooth RnR. No inversions or big loops but lots of twists and turns. It's a thrill ride but a has a huge fun factor with the story and the music. If OPs DD is a huge Marvel/Guardians fan it may be enough to draw her interest to want to ride. If not, I'd likely pass unless siblings ride first and think she'd be ok. It doesn't have the drops that may be the part of Splash or 7D that is too much.

The story on Rise can be rather scary too. The 1st Order CM are rather intimidating. The ride has some close calls that are more "harrowing" than those with Remy or Railway, which are done in a more entertaining/fun (cartoon) manner. Which sort of goes back to the "what is it that makes rides too scary/too much" question.

Totally Agree. Got to ride Rise last Sunday (8/21) and sadly all of the things that were "close calls" previously were turned off. Thankfully all Animatronics were working

All very helpful guys - thanks so much. Darkness and scary characters she's fine with. It's speed and drops. I'm thinking everything but GoG will be fine. Doesn't sound like GoG will be something she'd like. And the youtube suggestion is great too. Really appreciate it!

Disagree with comparing Slinky to 7DMT, and thinking it is less intense.

7DMT tracks are built into the hillside and scenery so there is never the feeling you are high off the ground, just on hills.

Slinky Dog has no scenery so the track is clearly high up in the air and I think that totally makes the thrill factor higher. IF she decides to ride, do not let her get in first. Have her sit on the right. Most of the banks going towards sideways are on the left so that seat looks down to the ground.

I was coming here to also disagree with the 7DMT and SDD comparison. SDD is for sure a tame coaster relative to non Disney coasters, but my timid coaster kid (who does actually like Splash) did not want to repeat SDD. It was “too scary”, but he does like 7DMT. I think it’s the traditional coaster feel it has, seeing that you’re off the ground and such. With SDD, you can see enough from the ground that she can decide there.

I think Guardians would be a hard no for someone who was scared on 7DMT. The coaster itself is intense enough that you can feel it, similar to EE with a little less intensity. I would say if she’s good on any of Space, EE, or RnRC then it’s worth a try.

OK thanks. If you can see a lot from the ground - she'll be able to judge herself.

:rotfl2:she would NEVER go on any of these....Guardians sounds like a definite no.

All new rides feel scary the first time. You need to get the courage to ride it 2-3 times. By that 3rd time, you understand the ride, and it doesn't scare you anymore

Obviously thrill and scary are very subjective - I was often surprised by what made my family scared and thrilled! Rise I would say is the least thrilling from a movement perspective. It is very immersive and action orientated and has astonishing levels of technology. But you don't get jerked around much aside from the 20 second finale (which I won't spoil) which I think is still pretty tame in thrill. If a Star Wars fan a must must do. But it would be a shame to miss for anyone. Smugglers is fun. An interactive Star Tours - on par I would say, perhaps actually a little less - the tech and style make it smoother. SDD is deceptive - less intense than Space Mountain but I think more than Big Thunder. It is a small coaster, but I would be surprised if she enjoyed it.

Didn't do the others!

My 13 year old found Rise scary and did not like it...but loved Runaway Railway...same physical ride for the car part when it moves along the ground. Rise has a vertical drop. Rest of us loved it

Remy isn't scary but can give a bit of motion sickness. Really fun though

Just because I don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned and you say drops are a no go, there is a drop in rise of the resistance. It’s not as intense as tower of terror of anything but it’s definitely thrilling when unexpected. We rode it last year with some kids friends that are very timid when it comes to rides, the 10 year old was scared at the time but extremely happy he did it, the 8 year old was inconsolable for about 20 mins lol.

Scary and thrill rides are two different things to me. Young children will likely be frightened by something like the Haunted House ride with the theming and creepy characters. Older children will understand it isn't real or just make-believe but I wouldn't call that a thrill ride. Thrill rides to me involve high speed, drops, rapid change of direction or similar special effects. Some people get nauseous in any of those motion simulated rides where you sit in one place and a movie screen simulates various types of motion.
