Hi all,
This isnt very disney but i need reviews of this chair if anyone has one..... I love quickie chairs for some reasom my spasticity (CP) has always made all the other brands way too tippy. My current chair )a Quickie ST?DT) has been to mexico and back and literally has been mended w/ duct tape. I go measured for the new chair but am so leary to switch styles of chairs..... so hard to get that perfect fit. Its also difficult because the distributer take MONTHS to get the chair to me....
sigh I get so frustrated with insurance etc. (its my first year out of college and thus first yr of dealing w/ buracratic insurance companies my iI pray i got a good fit.

On a more positive note- i have never had anything above and beyond the standard cushion or back before this- this time I sprung for a Jay back and cushion.... wOW i tried that out. Its great! My posture is better and its so comfortable. i think the 8hr desk job I got last year necesitates the change.

Any reviews for this chair are more than welcome...

I have a friend that got the Quickie and seems to like it alot. I actually took a hard look at it and then decided to go with the TiSport since they would sponsor my dance work. Love the TiSport though it is more tippy then the Quickie.

I should add that I'm off to the world 12/18-25. My CM sis is singing in the CP at epcot .....shh my mom doesn't know that yet! what a supise that will be :) my sis became a CM in January and the 50% discount made my first ever to WDW for moms 50th bday and this, our second trip to spend xmas swith my MK guest relations kid sis a lot lighter on the pockets

thanks for listening to my rambling!

Happy holidays

what type of dancing do you do. I'm always interested in finding out about the arts, particulatly those that showcase the accomplishments of indidviduals w/ disabilities. We need more of that! Me and my scientific self doesnt have a creative bone in my body but I appreciate the arts SO much

My DD has had Quickie chairs since her first one when she was 2 1/2. She's 17 now and has a Quickie manual and an Invacre Arrow power wheelchair. She also has a lot of spasticity and the Quickie seems very stable for her. She does break parts (footrests, armrest and chest guides), so I'd really like it if they made an unbreakable chair.
She's also had a Jay seat and back since she was about 6. can't say enough good about those (but be careful if you are outside somewhere in cold weather for a long time. The gel can get "soft frozen" and, let's just say that's not a good thing). She has no fat on her behind and the only time in her life that she had any skin breakdown was when they were having her transfer out of the wheelchair and sit in a regular chair at school. Just being in the Jay seat was enough to heal it and she's never had another. She's in her wheelchair a good 10-12 hours a day, so that's pretty good.

PS. My DD also dances. She's in a wheelchair dance class in St. Paul. They do all sorts of dancing - some in power chairs, some in manual and the kids do whatever movement they are able. Not as pretty as faeflora, I'm sure, but as enjoyable.

I don't like the fact that the Quickie Titanium chair is so blah because it has no color. Like Sue said if you live in a cold climate re-think a Jay cushion. Both my DD's use Roho cushions oldest DD had a Jay when she was 5 but we had problems with it freezing in the winter. Oldest DD has a Quickie R2 youngest DD has a Colours Little Dipper chair only because it was the only small sporty chair however, it weighs as much if not more then the Quickie. Below is what Sunrisemedical.com has to say about it's Quickie Titanium chair.

The rear axle features 4" of center-of-gravity adjustment in 1/2" increments. When a chair is not properly centered, it feels heavy, unresponsive, and sometimes "tippy". By using a 4" adjustment range that accommodates many different body types, this problem can be avoided.

SueMn...thanks for the compliment. I know your daughter is a beautiful dancer how could she not be. All wheelchair dancers are beautiful.

colleen121...I perform wheelchair dance both in and out of the chair and on top of it and under it...it gets pretty crazy at rehearsals.
I danced with the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange this summer as part of their 5 year community dance project called "Hallelujah USA", I am
also the artistic director for my own company and we have a website finally we just don't have a picture of me in my chair yet. The website is 360dancetheater.org. Check it out if you have a chance it is updated regularly with our performance schedule and now that we have a digital camera we will be adding more picture.

The thing I like about the Titanium chairs is that if they get dinged up which they will do you don't see the chip that normally show on paint.:D :) :)

There was a wheelchair troupe in Minnespolis for a show last year (we didn't find out until they were gone), but what I saw from pictures in the newspaper was amazing. If you are even 10% that good, faeflora, you must be a sight to see.

It was a high of less than 20 degrees here today and DD's Jay cushion wasn't cold when she came in from the bus. If we were staying outside for any great length of time, I would probably look into something to warm it up, but it works OK.
One of the things that DD's PT had said about the Jay cushion is that the soft pressure it gives because of the gel is supposed to decrease spasticity because of the feedback it gives. The gel sort of settles in the spot it needs to be to give support. She sat on a ROHO and had some trouble with it because the air shifted whenever she moved (not sure if that makes sense or not). She was just not very stable on it. For some people, a ROHO is the best choice and for some people it doesn't work out at all. Same for the Jay cushion.

Michigan, faeflora and sue thanks for your insights :)

I like the titanium look because it doesnt stand out and scream WHEELCHAIR and the knicks i'm prone to get won't show as much. I'm hoping to make this sucker last!

Sue M I know exactly what you mean about spasticity and movement in the cushion. sitting on air filled things that shift, regadless of what they are cushions beds chairs etc, drive me nuts. The movememt makes me somewhat tigher and a little less stable. Things that are more molding and form fitting to offer a bit of support tend to work better for me. but, fret not, I will heed all of your advice and try not to get the cushions too too cold. I live in NJ so its hard to predict how cold winters will be form one year to the next. Thanks again everyone!

PS feaflora i'm headed over to your website.
