The *NEW* Polynesian Resort FAQ thread - *SEPT 2008*

Hi all,

Dh and I just got back from the Poly last night and I wanted to post to thank all of you for your wonderful tips! We had a wonderful time. The resort is absolutely amazing . . . so beautiful! I'll post some pics later after I get everything unpacked and the pics are downloaded.

Our only complaint was with Mousekeeping. I hate to say it (it didn't ruin our trip), but it truly was terrible. The rooms I've stayed in at a Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn were much cleaner than what we experienced at the Poly. Our breakfast dishes would sit for days, surfaces were not cleaned AT ALL, beds barely made, etc, etc. For a deluxe resort, we found this to be very disappointing. The good thing is that is our only complaint! We were fortunate enough to have a 40% off code, but if we had paid rack rates we would have been disgusted.

I don't want to dwell on that though . . . the resort itself is fantastic. The caast members (other than Mousekeeping!) were wonderful. The convenience of the monorail and TTC was great.

We were in Tokelau, so we could just walk to the TTC and we were at the very end (by the beach) so we had a great view of the fireworks from Illuminations right from our balcony. That was magical pixiedust:

All in all, it was an amazing trip that DH and I will never forget!
Thanks for posting your review and sorry about the Mousekeeping service.

Is there any point anymore to faxing room requests or has that kind of died out?

Your best bet is to call CRO and have your requests placed on your reservation through them. Then they will be a part of the initial reservation that the room assigner gets. Good luck!

Hey there! Welcoem back. I cannot wait to see your pix! I'm glad you had fun despite Mousekeeping. You're not the first person lately that I've heard complain about Poly Mousekeeping. I'm starting to worry. We're going a time of year that probably WON'T have any codes/pins and if I pay $355/nt and have a lazy mousekeeper, I'm going to go ballistic!

Can I ask what room you were in in Tokelau? I requested that bldg so just wondering where you were!!!

Thanks!
Melanie

Bad mousekeeping is better than a jackhammer outside your door:mad: . Thats what DH and I got last Oct. for full price:headache: .

We were in room 2916. It was a great location. We were second from the end, so right by the exit/entrance. We liked that because we didn't have to walk through the hallway to get to the room . . . just a little thing that made it a bit nicer!

I'm still debating whether it's worth writing a letter about Mousekeeping. I'm generally not one to complain, but it was truly terrible and I figure they do need to know what is happening or else they can't address it.

I took Clorox wipes and cleaned when we arrived because I read all the horror stories before we went. I was so glad we did. The surfaces on everything were filthy. I was really surprised.

We had room service for breakfast on Wednesday and they didn't even bother to take the dishes away when they cleaned that day. They also didn't leave us any toiletries that day and the pillows were literally just thrown on the beds! I called Mousekeeping to ask for toiletries and they asked if there were any other problems, so I told them and they assured me everything would be taken care of the next day.

When we came back to the room Thursday afternoon the breakfast dishes were still there and it was obvious that none of the surfaces in the bathrooms or the desk, dresser, etc. were cleaned at all. Nothing was straightened up except the refrigerator! Whey they would even bother to rearrange things in the fridge, but nowhere else is beyond me.

The carpet outside our room was not vacuumed the entire time we were there. We saw the same crumbs (looked like Doritos!) EVERY day.

We had a great trip because we weren't in the room much. We got to do a lot, but now that I'm thinking back on it I'm getting more angry about how the room was serviced. Even with the 40% code we still paid $200+ a night. There is no reason things could not have been taken care of better.

Sorry this turned into a rant. Just remember to take some Clorox wipes and clean some things on your own!

MinnieMom - Just curious... did you let anyone at the front desk or a manager know about the condition of the room?

It is definitely worth bringing this to their attention. It doesn't matter what rate you paid, you deserve better Mousekeeping. You are exactly right - if they don't know what is happening they cannot fix it. If you write you letter in a tone that suggests you were disappointed and trying to get a problem fixed they should welcome your comments.

I hope things are better when we are there in December!

Ok, here I am to conclude my TR.

I had to go back quite a few pages to figure out where I left off. You all have been busy here! :rotfl: I hope everyone that is leaving soon will have a great trip!

Ok, so I left you all when we were off to MK for Spectro. As usual, the parade was wonderful and it seemed very crowded! We decided to stay for the fireworks as well and then we just sat back and relaxed with an ice cream til the crowds subsided a bit. When we got back to the room, I pretty much finished packing for check out the next day :sad2: and the boys went to sleep.

We got up Friday and had breakfast at Ohana's, which by the way, we made those reservations the day before because I thought it would be too much for us to get to an early breakfast at Cape May, which I originally had scheduled. Breakfast was good, they were running about 30 mins behind, so just in case and so we didn't have to rush, we went back and asked for a late check out, and it was granted. We wound up getting back to the room and bell services arrived a few mins before 11, but I was glad I didn't have to worry about the time.

Then it was off to MK, the kids wanted to do the 3 mountains at least one more time before we left. Glad we went there, we walked on EVERYTHING, multiple times! Around 4 we decided it was time to start heading over to Epcot for our 6:50 ressie at Coral Reef. We were tired and just got off SM, so decided to take the train around to Main Street. Well, this is when the most interesting thing EVER happened to us in all the times I've ever been. We pulled in the station at Toon Town, you know, right by the smoking section? Well, We were there for a minute or so and DH says, "look at that woman over there" and gives a description and so on. Well, I look and he says "just watch and tell me what you think she's doing" I of course watched and low and behold, she was smoking an illegal substance from a pipe. DH and I were like "no way!" But we kept watching and sure enough, after the 3rd time, we knew we had to say something to a CM. Well....the train was just about to leave but DH jumped up and told a CM that was pretty close to us and you should have seen the look on her face....floored, as we were. She assured us she would call security and ran over to another CM to tell them what was going on. We stayed on the train and went on about our business, but WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! That was so unbelievable, right there in toon town! When we arrived at the Main St. station, the CM on the back of the train spoke to us for a moment, reassuring us they called security and thanking us for making them aware of what was going on. We did a little shopping after that on Main Street then it was off to Epcot.

Epcot was crowded, it was evening EMH, but it wasn't as packed as I expected. Soarin' had a 60 min wait with no FPs left, but there was only a 15 min wait at both Mission Space and Test Track. Went on MS orange side with a few min wait and the boys decided they didn't want to do anything else. I probably would have just cancelled Coral Reef for dinner but I had a diver and personalized menus made for a surprise, so I played it up that I really was looking forward to this meal all week so we had to go. Everyone was happy we did! They were SO surprised by the menu's then, the diver came up, right in front of us and they flipped out! We all ordered the steak and one DS ordered pizza, so much for a seafood restaurant, but we enjoyed the meal. I went outside early so I could call for the bounce back offer. I had tried to call earlier, twice actually, before we checked out, but the computers were down, so I was told I could call before 10pm and it still would be honored. Well, I booked that and we were on our way back to the Poly to pick up the car and head to the Springhill Suites by the airport for the night. We had an early flight out Saturday morning. On the Monorail back to TTC, we saw the fireworks from Illuminations. Nice ending to our wonderful trip!

Thanks everyone for reading! I will be back soon to post pics. I still have more to download from 2 other cameras, so be patient. I hate coming home and getting back into reg. routine. It's hard!

Wow....I'm just reading about the problems with mousekeeping. We didn't have any problems like this at all, the room was spotless every day and we had extra towels and toiletries left each day. No towel animals, but we didn't care about that.

I think you, MinnieMom, should definately write and let them know of the problems you had!!

Hey ConcKahuna:

Have fun on vacay with Knox (did I get that right?) closing down PI....sad, so sad! But have fun anyways!!

Thanks for posting the rest of your trip report and I can't wait to see your photos.

I need opinions on the Poly for preschoolers. How is the waterslide? Is it long, dark, too fast?

Also, I saw the pics of the Children's Water Play area on the first page. Where is it located?

BTW...Great job on the new thread! Lots of great information!

MinnieMom - Just curious... did you let anyone at the front desk or a manager know about the condition of the room?

Yes I did. I called on Wednesday because we weren't left any toiletries and they asked if there was anything else, so I told them about the breakfast dishes not being taken away, the surfaces not being cleaned and the bed being "thrown together." They transferred me to a manager who said he would pass the information on to the day crew so they would have it taken care of the following day. They did bring toiletries up that night though.

When we got back to the room the next day and the breakfast dishes were still there I called again and they said again they would get them. Finally on Friday they were taken away, but the room was still not cleaned well. Someone did come to the room that evening as we were getting ready for dinner and asked if things had improved and I told him they had not.

What longhouse /building were you in?

Our kids were almost 5 and almost 3 when we went. Both love the water and tend to be "daredevils" when it comes to slides/rides. DS (the almost 5 year old) LOVED the Volcano slide. That's all he did over and over each day, and even asked to leave MGM to go back to it!! DD attempted the slide a few times, but did not like it because she kept getting turned upside down and would come out head first, facing the sky!! She did all the slides at Blizzard Beach though, LOL!! I think it was something of a weight issue - I think she was so light that as she went around the turns, she just flipped over. She didn't mind the darkness at all though. There are lights inside, so it's not pitch black.

My kids are both very small for their ages, though, so other kids her age might not have the same problem. I'd say as long as the child likes minor "thrills", the slide is great for those 4 and up. There is a traffic light at the top that tells them when they can go - changes from red to green. Loved that. They can wear life vests on the slide as well. Even though DS was a fairly good swimmer then, we still had him wear it because the current is pretty strong at the bottom of the slide, plus the need to move quickly away before the next person comes down. We're returning next May and I honestly think DS is more excited about that slide than anything else!! (He usually can't go on slides here b/c of his height!)

The water play area is right near the Volcano pool. It's pretty basic, really suited for the very young toddler crowd I'd say.

HtH!
