:thumbsup2 Thanks for the info....i would have thought for sure that the GF would have been gold :confused3
But like i said before...i have never heard anyone asked to get off from the front car...do you know anything about that??:confused3
My family and I have been in the front car of the Monorail at least 3 times and each time we got off at the destination we told the Monorail driver and were not asked to exit so another family could ride up front that asked to do it.

I love dole whips! the last time I was at the Poly the machine was broken the whole time.

Say it isnt so....I LOVE DOLE WHIPS and to be broken the whole time??? First no cheezy potatoes then the filet gone! :faint: Makin me not want to book at the Poly!:sad2:

There are no set Monorail colours for each of the Resorts on the Monorail line, because there have been times when my family and I got on from the Contemporary and it was the red, blue, black or green one that arrived. Also it's impossible to have dedicated colours to each of the Monorail Resorts because it stops at all of them, so that idea would never work.

CRFan, I think that poster a couple days ago was asking about riding in the front of the monorail. As I recall, there was a system of designating a particular color to the three resorts. But this was only for priority for the cab. Each monorail still stopped at all three resorts and carried guests of all three. I'll have to ask my DH and DS1 if they remember this.

And as I said, I never saw anyone have to move. And our family has ridden the resort monorail since 1983.:wizard:

I read that it was sweet... kinda like a flavor of Kool-Aid....:goodvibes

Yep....and I have drank some of that kool aid;)

No love for the Poly , GF Gal?! :)

I have fond memories of the Poly....first ever stay....had my wedding here....:cloud9:

I have stayed at the Poly....was the worst resort ever...they had us moved to the GF..my first experience with the GF...now talk about memories!
When we sat on the beach at the Poly to watch Wishes (it wasnt called wishes back then..lol) we got bit up by sand fleas, or some type of bugs! My poor sons were covered with bites....unfortunately not so fond memories:scared:

Touring Plans .com lists the average time using Disney transportation at 54 with a max of 75! Does it really take this long?

Sorry to hear about the incident with your boys...
:flower3:
It just goes to show you, people's opinions are usually based on their experiences....
I am happy to say that I have been fortunate with my WDW resort stays:)
I guess I had the best of both worlds....pre wedding stay at Poly and post wedding stay at the GF:)
However, being a DVC owner now, these resorts arent on my list!! lol
Except for when I can squeeze in a few night stay!

UPDATE from friend at poly

The poly is now putting in iHomes in all rooms:cool1: and updating there bedding :confused3

Ooh! I'd like to know more about this!!! Did you tell your friend to take pics??? Is an iHome a docking station/player for an iPod? We'll be there in May and can't wait. This will be my first stay at the Poly. DH was there as a kid, so he is anxious to see the most recent updates.

I'm glad they are putting in ihomes, that will come in handy. Also, do you know if the updated bedding is just the new pillows or will there be new bedspreads and linens as well.

I remember when each of the resorts had a "dedicated" color for its monorail station. I also remember when the boats had flags that indicated destinations, etc.

What you are relating, i.e., passengers in the front cab would be asked to move IF someone at the "home" resort requested it, did occur years ago, according to very old versions of Birnbaum's Guide. I do not believe this is still the case since it appears the "color" coding of the monorails and boats for that matter, has fallen by the wayside. Like you BCV, I have never seen anyone asked to exit the cab in favor of another family.

As indicated previously, I believe the colors are now used strictly to delineate the individual monorail for tracking purposes by the home station.

Just thought I'd toss that out there BCV so that you had a little back-up for your memory. . .

Tess, thanks for the backup!:thanks:

I remember when the gold flag boat signified that it was the Polynesian's. The GF hadn't been built back then. :boat: I'll have to look again next month but I think the boat still carries the flag.

I reported that there was an ipod dock in our room in Rapa Nui last month. Don't know if they are in all the rooms or not yet.

As for new bedding, the Polynesian changed to wonderful pillowtop mattresses a few years ago about the same time the GF received them. I think it was summer of 04. We saw new mattresses being delivered when we were staying at the GF and I'm pretty sure we had a new one at the Polynesian either that same trip or in October.

The new line of linens came in a year or two ago, didn't they?

Thanks again, Tess from one long time Polynesian fan to another!

I remember those boat flags fondly. We'd get so excited to see that gold flag when we were trying to leave the MK or FW. I never knew about the monorail thing though. Very interesting!

Great post!

Touring Plans .com lists the average time using Disney transportation at 54 with a max of 75! Does it really take this long?

DH & I have stayed at many resorts (but not the Poly yet) & we plan on about 20 - 30 minutes for transportation, although it really depends.
We find the bus or monorail to be quicker than the boats. Downtown Disney always seems to need an extra 10 - 15 minutes. The year we stayed at AKL it was a bit longer getting everywhere (except AK of course :goodvibes ). And when my parents stayed at POP they had the same complaint about MK being a longer a ride.

I'll also preface this w/the fact we never get out for rope drop...we usually leave the resort around 10am, so there isn't a big line for the busses.
I do know leaving the parks at closing time the wait does get very long & on occassion we probably have waited an hour to get back to our resort.
Now we grab an ice cream & a bench for a while then wander out after the worst of the rush has cleared... much more pleasant!

I would also imagine that the time you are there impacts it too. What does the crowd calendar say for your trip dates? I would imagine larger crowds would mean longer lines (for everything not just the bus).

Worst case - you can always grab a cab! We've done that on occassion & for $15-ish you can get from one end of WDW to the other in short order. I wouldn't do it every day, but in a pinch it works.
