Question for you Poly vets...how many watts are the in-room hairdryers/blowdryers? We went on a Disney cruise and the blowdryer in the cabin was not too powerful and took forever to dry my hair. I don't want to have to carry a hairdryer, but also want to be able to do my hair in a reasonable time. Not that it will likely matter given the heat and humidity in September!

I don't know the wattage but I didn't bring my own, used the Poly one and it was fine. I can't stand a weak hairdryer, so it must have been decent.

Anyone else going for Columbus Day weekend?
My DH convinced me to get his ticket to go down the day before I go. I'll have school that Saturday, and I'm not allowed to miss, so he said he will go to "prepare" First he said he'll pick me up from the airport, but after I booked his ticket, he said, "isn't there a bus that'll pick you up?" Man, did he finagle his way! I told him I don't care if I interrupt his pool/bar time, he better be at the entrance to the Poly with a Pineapple drink w/umbrellas in it, a set of Happy 40th Birthday Mickey Ears (I told him he has to research that) waitng for me at the entrance when I step off that bus!
My husband likes to have a good time, so if you see Big Ed at the Poly Barefoot Bar on October 10th, pull up a seat alongside of him - he loves to talk!

Where can I get the 40th B-day Mickey Ears? We are staying at the Poly for my wife's 40th. It is a complete surprise to her and the kids. They think we are staying offsite for 2 nights before moving in to OKW. I would love to have these waiting in our room. Is this something that the concierge staff can arrange? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I *think* it's about 1500 watts. I remember because the ones at Pop were crap but the one at the Poly worked good like you mention. I usually travel with a 1800 watt dryer so for me anything below 1500 watts is the pits.

We just returned from the Poly Monday evening (12th). This was the first time staying there. We stayed in the Tahiti building, room #3023, which had an unobstructed view of the castle. The resort was beautiful and more than I expected. The housekeeping was not that great. The first night I tipped them $5, which I left in an envelope on the bathroom sink. When we returned in the evening, the beds were made and that's about it. On the second night I tipped again before we headed out for the day. When we returned, they had made an elephant towel animal that was sitting next to the trash can in the bathroom. Again, the beds were made and we had fresh towels. The third night I tipped and was very disappointed when we got back. There were some pieces of paper that was from our first day there on the floor. They were still there. Nothing was vacuumed at all. Also, I have a 3 and 6 year old and their fingerprints were all over the door to the patio. Those remained the whole time. The night before we left, I failed to leave a tip. I guess I expected more out of housekeeping since it is a deluxe resort and is very expensive. The other areas of the resort, restaurants and shops were fine. We will definitely go back, but would request a room CLOSER to the GCH. It was a very long walk back in the evening and the kids wanted to be carried.

Yes, contact IPO and submit your request. If there is such a thing as 40th Birthday ears, I'm sure they will be able to locate and purchase them for you. They may request that you contact them with your credit card, but they will provide you with a telephone number to phone them.

BTW, I like your style--it's my kind of surprise! Too bad I'm long past that 40 mark, but 50 is right around the corner!

Agreed.

Just wanted to tag onto this a little bit. I usually make it a point to chat with some of the mousekeepers during our stay. One of our favorite mousekeepers at the Poly (I usually leave a comment card for her each stay) told me that some mousekeepers go above and beyond like her and some just do the bare minimum. It doesn't make it 'right', it is what it is.

Ok all you Poly vets out there. What is the easiest way to get over to the boardwalk if we do not want to go through EPCOT? In all the years we have been we haven't been over there and my DM is wanting to this year. We will have a rental car for part of our trip so that maybe the easiest option.

I never did see anyone respond to this. Maybe I just missed it, but can anyone tell me the best way to get there?

I would think (besides a cab) the easiest way would be ---monorail to MK ---bus to boardwalk inn or beach club (if they areb't the same bus).

We did this to have dinner at beach club last month than walked out to the boardwalk.

Honestly, I would drive your rental car over there because I don't have a lot of patience. While Disney transportation is efficient, to get to the Boardwalk without having to go through EPCOT you would go to the MK and catch the bus for the Boardwalk from the bus depot there. Now someone else might know better but I *think* the Boardwalk bus stops at another EPCOT resort as well.

We have several ADRs over at the Epcot resort area as well. I think we'll probably drive ourselves. The other option is to take a cab - a little expensive, but convenient. It all just depends on how much drinking we want to do!

When I was staying at GF and needed to get to Party for the Senses at Epcot during the F&W Festival one year, I took a cab and got dropped off at the BC front door. From there it is a quick walk to the World Showcase entrance The quickest way in that I could think of...

Are you sure? Whenever I stayed at the Beach Club, the buses served the Yacht and Beach Club only.

I wouldn't recommend this due to the extra time and inconvenience involved. Here's why.

If you take the monorail from the TTC to EPCOT, you have to go through the security checkpoint at the main entrance for EPCOT, walk from the front of the park through Future World, past the UK and Canadian pavillions and exit the park at the International Gateway where the boats to the Swan/Dolphin, Beach and Yacht Club and the Boardwalk are. I believe the Boardwalk is the second stop on the way.

At least if you take the bus for the Boardwalk from the MK, you'll remain on the bus until you'd reach that resort.
