I too live in the country. We have 4 acres cleared so I run different routes around the property after work each evening. If I drove to a walking track I'd never get around to it. As for the hunters, I'm also training at out hunting club on the roads during the weekend. Just invest in a hunter orange vest and they will see you I'm so excited about running (something I've never done before) I'm training at least 5 days a week so I can finish. I saw fireflies at sunset in my path this week So cool! Just think what I've been missing all this time.

I really like running to, it makes me realize all the beautiful nature around me that I tend to not notice otherwise. At my new place I saw deers almost every time I went out to run. This is magical. I would sure like to have that big of a running field all to myself. You are lucky to have such a big property.

A hunting vest sure would be helpful during my weekend runs during the day, but would they help me to be seen in the dark? I know, a lot of people find ways to run outside in the country. I guess I'm being silly and insecure about running alone in the dark, in a new town where I don't know the people yet and where I'm not familiar with the roads. I't's nothing to go hide under the bed about, I'll just have to get used to it.

If you look in the hunting section some may have reflective tape or you could possibly add some. Because hunting is supposed to end before sunset reflectivity is not a major factor. Be sure to try it on too. Some are not made for a woman's torso and can be aggravating. Happy running!

Well, I had been putting it off, but I went ahead and booked a room at Shades of Green. This way, I can walk to Poly for race transport & if DH & DD decide to come over with me, they can walk to the end of the road to watch me pass by. :)

Another successful 5K today (for me that means finishing!) Hubby (oops I mean DH!) and I did the "paint the parkway pink" 5K for breast cancer research here in San Antonio. It was in the Stone Oak area which is north of San Antonio and Oh..the HILLS! Started out slow, remembered what running coach said, and walked just when I had to on the steep hills. My time...39:02 which is 46 sec better than my 5K two weeks ago! Figured the pace was about 12:32 yeah! :cool1::banana:

Now to find a 10K here between now and the end of January when we attempt the Lymphoma/Leukemia half marathon.:)

Off to the Epcot Wine & Food festival tomorrow...I'm sure I'll get my training done each day after I drink around the world! :rotfl2:

Hi all! Another out of focus, lack of motivation PHMer here. My training was going well, but I'm sort of at a plateau now.

I have a question for those using the Galloway method. What do you use to keep time of your intervals? I was using his app on my iPhone while running on the treadmill, which was working great. However, I was having a hard time with it outside or on the track at the gym.

I was thinking about getting a watch but no clue, what brand or kind. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I use the gymBoss Max. I bought mine on Amazon.
It will beep and or vibrate at the interval you set. I have been using it since April the year and it has worked well.

Went to try on the Asics Cumulus 14 today with the insoles I've been wearing and I still don't like them...I'm really disappointed because I've been in love with those shoes for over two years :( oh well, I left with a shiny new pair of Nimbus 14's instead...hoping it'll be an easy transition. They felt pretty good for the couple of minutes I ran on the store's treadmill in them. Not happy they were $30 more than the Cumulus...which were already expensive enough!!!

I don't think you're being silly or insecure at all - it's your personal safety! Hunters are not the only thing to worry about. I have a vest that DH bought me at Sports Authority that is neon yellow and has the reflective strips on it. I just do whatever I can to avoid running alone in the dark since I really don't want to end up as the subject of a Lifetime movie. I would really push the treadmill issue - better safe than sorry!

I use my plain old phone. I use the cardio trainer app on my phone and just keep an eye on the time / mileage.

Saucony has a PINK jacket that lights up along the back and front pocket - you charge it and then light up the night! My friend and I are running the Princess and we both got them. She was on a run the other night and a car pulled over to tell her she was the easiest runner to see from far away - works for fashion and function!

I'm going to be taking a break from the thread for a while because I have a brand new place to run...I'm getting ready to go to Uganda in a few days with Shot@Life (the charity I'll be running the Princess 1/2 for) to go see UNICEF child survival programs in action! I'm nervous and excited. And wondering if I'll have a chance to run in Africa?

If you're interested, here is a link to my trip blog starting with some pre-trip thoughts about clean water during my long run.

I'll be posting pictures and stories as I can. I'm going with 9 other volunteers with Shot@Life who support global vaccines to save kids from measles, polio, rotavirus, and pneumonia. if you're inspired to help, feel free to visit my fundraising page here

See you all in a few weeks. Keep up the great training everyone!:cheer2:

Have a safe trip. It sounds like a wonderful organization.

I have been looking over my adrs for this trip and don't really love them.

Originally I had us eating at Kona for dinner Sat, the night before the half but I'm not thrilled with new menu.

Where is everyone else eating the night before? I need some ideas:)

We're eating at The Wave the night before. I've also eaten at Portobellos the night before a race too and enjoyed it.

I like to book a brunch around 11:30am for the day before the race and them just grab a sandwich around 6pm as I'm in bed by 9. I am one of those who actually sleeps.

I'll take a pasta at POR's food court and go to bed early. So no ADR for us.

We are duplicating last year and have a Flying Fish ressie for 5:15. I like a nice lean protein and some veggies for my dinner. I'll eat a good bunch of gluten free rolls too hahaha! We will be in bed by 8:30-9. Pre-race i usually eat a banana and a peanut butter pack and a coconut water. Post race we have lunch for 4 at Biergarten! It'll be our first time there! It's our friend's 30th bday and she's running with her boyfriend! So exciting!

AOA's foodcourt also has the pasta station so I will be there with an early bedcheck. I hope the pasta is as good as POR.

Right now the only ADR I have is V&A on Sunday. :scared1: I for sure want Raglan Road somewhere in there. I'll either go with Thurs night, if we get in early enough, or Mon night, I guess.
