The new "New Moms" thread!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this thread.
I have a little one who just turned one a couple of days ago. I am writing for some help/advice. My son has recently decided that he wants nothing to do with his bottle, no matter what is in it - juice, milk, water- and he refuses to even try the sippy cup. Pushes both away whenever he sees them coming.
I know he needs to drink something! What can I do?

:welcome: Nice to see another mommy join us!! Maybe try one of those cups with a straw? He may be excited/enthralled trying to use the straw, and encourage him to try and drink more.

I am so impressed with all you mommies that make your own food!! :thumbsup2 I am SUCH a bad mommy in that department...I really only used the Gerber baby food (stage 2 and 3) when Brady was eating purees. Now that he eats more solid food, I usually just cut up various solid foods into small pieces. But, I really need to give him more variety, since he is already starting to be very picky. His favorites...Mac and Cheese, Eggo waffles, chicken fingers, french fries, raviolis, french toast sticks, graham crackers, Ritz crackers.....see where I'm going with this? Not exactly Mr. Healthy. :sad2: I need to start giving him more healthy choices. He does love applesauce (the no-sugar stuff), banana's, peaches, mandarin oranges....a big fruit junkie. So, I guess that is good. He also likes Yogurt, so we usually do that in the morning with his breakfast. Again....I do NOT win an award for feeding Brady!! You guys all really ROCK!! ::yes::

:wave2:

Hello!

Is he dehydrated? If he's still having plenty of wet diapers, he may be getting more than you think. Vaylie was done with her bottle shortly after she turned one, and she couldn't have cared less about it.

BUT- she IS picky about her sippy cups. We tried 3 different kinds, and she likes a particular Gerber cup best. :confused3

And, if you get desperate to get liquids in, try pedialyte popsicles or soups to eat. Or juicy fruit like watermelon.

Hopefully it's just a weird phase- my kid is going through a lot of those.

:headache: I am annoyed with Fed-Ex. I ordered those "Stroll-A-Tune" speakers and they were supposed to be here today. Sooo, I looked all around the front and back door, and I was bummed because they are nowhere to be found.

So, I looked up my package tracking, and it said, "Delivered: 3:40 PM" - UM- WHERE TO????? So, I just called Fed-Ex and he said they'll have to contact the driver and it could be another 2 business days.... UGH! And then he was kind of snarky and was like, "Well, ma'am, if you find the package or someone brings it to you..." I said, "By all means, you'll be the first to know." I just want my stupid speakers.

AND, my DH is on my s-list. You know the list. Because today he springs it on me: "Oh yeah, I have a bunch of paperwork about our new life insurance stuff at work, and it has to be back by tomorrow. AND, we have to do a health screening for the medical insurance, and that's due tomorrow too." :furious: He's had that stuff for 2 or 3 weeks. And, now I can't get online to do that stupid medical questionnaire because apparently last year when I did it they sent me a PIN number, and I have no clue what it is or where to find it. So, they can send me another one. In 7-10 days. By mail.

NOT HELPING.

Why does he do this? :headache:

Men. My DH got laid off in Sept of 06 and got a severance package that included healthcare for three months, all he had to do was fill out a form and turn it in. He got another job immediately but that insurance didn't kick in for three months. So I'm thinking that we have health insurance and stuff and during this time we're TTC. Anyway, one day I went to the doctor for a really bad headache got a shot for pain and had a freak seizure. The doctor wanted me to get a CT scan to make sure that I was ok. We had the new insurance by this point but because there had been a 90 day lapse because SOMEBODY can't turn in a flippin form they filed it as a pre-existing condition and now I have to pay $1200. Because of a form.

Ugh- Ash, that sucks.

Well, DH called last night and I told him I couldn't get on to take that survey thingy and he was like, "Yeah, it was a pain in the behind and I had to do all this stuff but I finally got to take it."

Um, ok- something he could have mentioned before I started trying to take it.

As it is, I told him he could take it for me today while I'm at work because I don't have time now.

Blah.

Hey Ladies --

Well, we're back from our long weekend down at WDW, though certainly unwillingly! It was a blas though! Colin was great on the plane, at the parks, in the car on our LOOOOONNNNGGGGGGGG trip through the Canadian border back home, since we flew out of Buffalo.

We got to ride the new Toy Story Mania ride 3 times, even though it's not officially open yet. It's a really great ride! Colin fell asleep on it -- who knows how, since it's kind of jerky!! He also fell asleep on Kilimanjaro, Living with the Land and slept through Journey into the Imagination. I got a new ring sling for Mother's Day, which he seems to like a lot, since he did A LOT of sleeping in it on our trip!

We did the Pirate and Princess party, which was fun. I think the fireworks for those are definitely my favourite, and the parade is pretty neat.

Colin also got his first hair cut at the Magic Kingdom! It was a little early, but I didn't think it would wait until we're down again in December. I'm hoping in December, Colin, Daddy and Papa will all be able to get their hair cut together, which would be totally cute!

Sounds like everyone is doing well. I know you all have your long weekend this weekend, which is fun! Of course, I've had one giant long weekend since last July, but whatever! I'm not looking forward to going back to work in 6 weeks. I've still got so much that I want to do before I start back -- guess I should get a move on!! :rotfl:

Mel - Sounds like you had a great time down in Disney!! :goodvibes So cute that Colin fell asleep on everything - he must have been very relaxed on vaca with his mommy and daddy! We want to see pics!! :yay:

Mel- your trip sounds great. I wanted to do a long weekend really badly. I looked into it a bit- but we decided to pay off some bills and go next year. *Sigh*

I would love to do the Pirates and Princess parade! We're going next year with BIL, SIL and our nephew (who is 3 months older than Vaylie), I hope it will still be around.

BIL and SIL are taking my nephew in Sept- they did the free dining thing. I am sooo jealous, but happy for them- they've had a rough time lately and need a dose of Disney magic!!!

Ooooohhhh....free dining! That would be cool!

We kind of lucked into a great deal -- we were playing around with the annual passholder rates and I think there was a glitch in the system, so we got a really great deal! And the flights were reasonable as well out of Buffalo. And, it was kind of nice to have everything paid for when we got down there, except for souvenirs, since we did the dining plan as well.

I thought the party would be the same as the first time we did it, but they've added a bunch of stuff and changed the "loot" that you search for. It was neat. DH played this game where you have to launch a bean bag into a treasure chest and won me a ring...a ring POP that is!! It was cute anyway!

The Block Party Bash over at Hollywood Studios is pretty cool too -- but, unlike the other parades, it starts at the front of the park, which we didn't know. And it all comes out pretty fast, then stops to do the show. I think next time, we'll sit a little farther into the park so we can see more of it as it's coming out.

Well, I just have to make it through tomorrow, then I am on VACATION!!!! Yea!!! Cheer!! Hooray!!

I need a break. My brain has turned to flubber. And work seems to be so much drama lately. And I am not so much about the drama. No thanks.

So, DH and V and I will be hanging out, working around the house- planting and maybe setting up the pool. And then we're going to take one or two day trips. Plus, my birthday is next wednesday, so there's cake. And cake is always good! Sunday night we're going to The Melting Pot!! Yum! My sis is going too- she has never been (we've only been once, but I'm totally using my birthday as an excuse to go back!).

What is everyone else up to? Plans this weekend?

And Vaylie's new behavior (this is SO funny, but it shouldn't be): she is constantly trying to push buttons on the computer. All the time. So, I am constantly repeating, " Vaylie, no buttons." "Vaylie, No." "Vaylie, we don't touch the buttons." Etc. Well, when I am sitting in the recliner, she tries to push them, but as soon as I act like I'm getting up to go stop her, she starts laughing and takes off running into the hallway!!! :lmao: Isn't she a little young to figure this out already!? It is too funny though. As soon as she thinks I'm coming to get her, she takes off.

I don't understand how parents keep a straight face sometimes!!

Hooray for vacations! :woohoo:

I love the story about Vaylie! Too cute!! :rotfl:

I LOVE The Melting Pot! YUM! Have you ever had the Oreo covered marshmallows for dipping in the chocolate fondues? I have a friend who swears they are one of the most perfect foods ever created. ;)

DH is using another week of his paternity leave next week. :goodvibes Since he doesn't have to use it all in one chunk, he took off a few weeks right after Owen was born, and then is spreading out the remaining weeks throughout the year. It's nice, and I think his supervisor actually likes this better than if he'd done it all in one chunk. Plus it makes it a little easier to be able to afford for him to take the weeks off.

We had been planning on taking Owen to the ocean for the first time, but now the Summit Fire in the Santa Cruz mountains is messing with our plans. It's between us and the ocean, and making for some yucky air quality. We could go farther north to the beach, but it will be much colder. Bummer...

DH is having an emotionally rough time "sharing" right now. He doesn't like having to share "his" space, and normally he deals with it fairly well, but right now he's frustrated at having to move his office out to the garage so Owen can have his own room. One of the challenges of living in a tiny house, but he chose to live here long before we were married, and he still swears he would rather have his office in the garage than move to a larger house, so I have a hard time seeing why he's complaining. Since the office hasn't fully moved out there yet, he's feeling like it's all chaos, and so then he starts feeling like I'm taking up too much space in his house, too! :headache:   Ugh. Sometimes I wish we could have just bought a new house when we got married rather than me moving into his house. DH hates moving and has sworn he never will...although we did agree that there are 3 houses in our neighborhood that if they ever came on the market we would consider buying. In the meantime, we need to cope with living in tiny rooms in a tiny house and quit grumbling about each others' stuff being in the way. Sigh. I swear it's like being college roommates all over again! ;)

I just need May to be over!!

Brady got over the chicken pox and went back to daycare for less than a week, when I get a call at work. We need to come and get him because he got hit w/a gate when they were transitioning outside and might need stiches. Well, hubby takes him to the dr, no stiches, but he has an ear infection. Spiked a nasty temp for 3 days..I can deal w/101, 102 is pushing it, but 103.4 scared the you know what out of me.

Then yesterday I pick him up and they tell me he has a small rash on his upper body, no big deal. I pick him up, it's gotten much bigger...its the exact same rash that DS6 got when we found out he was allergic to Augmentin. It looks like "prickly heat" all over his torso. It's so weird. DS6 was on it a couple of days before he broke out to, we didn't know what it was with him, but when I gave it to him the next time, he broke out within 5-10 minutes, so we knew.

So, off to the pharmacy last night w/another copay for new meds, of course it wasn't ready an hour after they called it in. The little local pharmacy I use closes at 6, so I had to go to Rite Aid, I have such problems w/my local one, even before Rite Aid bought them. I don't go there unless I absolutely have to!!

My grandfather is in the hospital. He fell and broke 3 ribs, now he has pneumonia. He's a tiny little man w/parkinsons...so it's not too good. They are talking rehab after and one of my "sister" facilities (I work at a nursing home) is right by their house. My old boss is there, so she'll keep an extra eye on him for me.

Hopefully it will turn around this weekend. DS6 is at my parents for 2 nights and I'm taking Brady to a local childrens museum. It's small, nothing compared to the one in Boston, but perfect for his age. I need some Brady bonding time....when he's healthly not just sleeping on me sick :goodvibes

Ok, I think I'm done now

Well I hope all of you ladies have a wonderful Memorial Weekend!!

I think that Chase is starting to teeth :scared1: He is only 3 months old!!! He is drooling like a fool and has "teething poop". He has gone from having one bm once a day to around 5 or 6 little ones. He is still eating just fine and playing so I know he is not sick. Oye....

We are not doing much this weekend as my DH only has tomorrow off. We may drive to the lake and visit some friends that are camping there. Depends on the weather.

I'll be heading down to the valley on Wednesday to visit with my Sister and hopefully my new neice (Sis will be induced on Tuesday). She needs me to help watch her son while she is in the hospital. He is 11 so it won't be that difficult...just set him up with his Playstation and he is good to go :thumbsup2
Anywho I'll check in when I get back.

Ugh - we're trapped inside today...the wind shifted, and the big fire in the hills has moved into Santa Clara county, so the air quality is nasty. The smell of smoke is seeping into the house (one of those "perks" of having an old house - nothing is really tightly sealed! ). DH had to go out to get groceries this morning, and he said there's even a little ash falling, but not too much around our area. I bet there's more over by DMIL's - she lives closer to the hills.

Nothing like living in a valley - all the yucky air is trapped down here until the wind shifts again. I have asthma, so there's no way I'm going outside until this is gone. Owen loves going outside and it's one of our favorite ways to keep him happy, but we can't take him out with the air quality so bad. Hopefully this will clear up soon or we'll all be going stir-crazy! :upsidedow

TiggerStac - holy cow, you have your hands full! Hope everything works out OK.

Becky - Happy Birthday!

Christopher is starting to do really well pulling himself up on stuff. He can't quite get the feet under him, but if one of us gives him a hand, he'll stand up and pull stuff off the table for hours :) He gets mad as a wet hen if we put him back on the floor...

One of my cats died on Friday evening. It was SO weird. I mean I haven't really been happy with them over the last couple of months, but when I called Jazzy's name and she didn't move, I was like....oh no. I called for hubby and he was pretty shocked too. Because of our faith and it being close to sundown on Friday evening, we just buried her in our backyard. We called the emergency clinic and the young man said that was totally acceptable. Cremation would have cost about $64, so we just decided to bury her ourself.

She wasn't sick, we don't know what happened. She was 11 years old. Now that I think about it, over the last couple of days she seemed sluggish, but I just thought...whatever. I'm so focused on Mo you know. :sad1: And the weird thing is Disney, our other cat had a dish full of food and wouldn't touch it. I wonder if something was wrong with it. We've had that bag for over a month though, wouldn't it have affected her sooner? I hope it wasn't poisoned. I mean Disney seems just fine. Yes he's a bigger cat, but still....oh I don't know. Yikes...don't know what I'm gonna do when Disney goes. I know for sure that if we can, he goes to the clinic for cremation. It just feels strange having Jazzy in the backyard, but...oh well...:sad1:

Oh, Denise, I'm sorry.

I know what you mean about being less focused on the pets now that you have a little one, though. I joke to everyone that Jules (my lug of a 90 lb dog) USED to be my baby- until I had my baby, and now she's like a second class citizen in the house. And even though I joke about it, I feel bad because she used to get all the attention and love and cuddles and walks and treats, but now I work full time AND have a child to take care of, Jules doesn't get near the amount of love and attention that she used to. Most people I have talked to that have pets and kids have said the same thing.

But, it still hurts when something happens to them.

Jen- thanks for the Happy Birthday!

Tonight is "Melting Pot" night!!! I'm so excited!! And Bethany- yes I have had those marshmallows! Yum!! I could go eat cheese and chocolate all night and be perfectly happy!! I was just pre-browsing the menu to see what looks good! I can't wait!

And that sucks about the air quality. It seems like here we can't get it to stop raining ever! And yesterday, it only got up to like, 68 or 69 degrees!! It was downright cool outside- not typical of our May weather! WHERE is summer?

And Vaylie's new behavior (this is SO funny, but it shouldn't be): she is constantly trying to push buttons on the computer. All the time. So, I am constantly repeating, " Vaylie, no buttons." "Vaylie, No." "Vaylie, we don't touch the buttons." Etc. I don't understand how parents keep a straight face sometimes!!

Happy Birthday! Melting Pot sounds really good. My b-day is in less than 2 weeks, and I was thinking seafood, but now I'm thinking Melting Pot.

Alex does the same thing with TV remotes - he knows he's not supposed to touch them, so whenever he sees one that is unattended in his reach, he looks around to see if anybody is watching him, then laughs maniacally as he grabs it and runs! I have trouble keeping a straight face when he is so cute all the time!

DH is having an emotionally rough time "sharing" right now. He doesn't like having to share "his" space, and normally he deals with it fairly well, but right now he's frustrated at having to move his office out to the garage so Owen can have his own room. Sorry to hear about the "roomate" troubles, how big is your house? I hope you are all doing ok with that firing getting so close!

Brady got over the chicken pox and went back to daycare for less than a week, when I get a call at work. It sounds like you are having a tough time. I hope you have a good time with Brady at the museum! DS had a fever over 104 for a couple days this winter, and the ped said that the temp didn't matter as much as the duration, which I had never heard before. He said that as long as the fever breaks in a few days, he wouldn't worry. But I couldn't help it! His fever ranged from 101-104 for almost 5 days! I'm glad Brady is doing better.

One of my cats died on Friday evening.

Now that I think about it, over the last couple of days she seemed sluggish, but I just thought...whatever. I'm so focused on Mo you know. :sad1:

I'm so sorry Denise. It's hard to lose a furbaby, but try not to feel guilty. Your son is your first priority, and you were doing the best you could.

The Melting Pot was awesome. Yum! And- my sister gave me my birthday present on Sunday- she couldn't wait....

she got me a Wii AND a Wii Fit!!!! :woohoo:  :hyper: My little sis rocks.

I am so flipping excited about it. This thing is so much fun- well, the Wii is just plain fun anyway, but the Wii Fit is SOOO cool. You step on the board and it weighs you and does a balance test, calculates your BMI, then there are all sorts of exercises to do- i LOVE it!!! It makes working out fun, and my hubby, sis and I have all been doing yoga on it!!

Tomorrow is my actual birthday- not sure what we're doing yet. Maybe sitting at home and playing the Wii because the mechanic just called a while ago with an estimate... My first cylinder is out on my car- he said to expect to pay around $1000. :( I was prepared for $500 (even though that meant I had to wipe out my Christmas savings), but $1000- yowch. Luckily my ILs are helping out. Otherwise I'm not sure how to decide which bills wouldn't get paid.

Oh well. AT least it will be fixed.
