The new metal detectors WDW

I am also glad metal detectors went in. It really is about time since I have carried in Disney every visit I've been on since becoming 21 and getting my license (31). The fact that if I have a bag and I get check but can stroll in with no bag is just asking for something bad happen. I have stood next to a guard getting my bag checked with my gun on me.
My reason for carrying in Disney is because they don't Check people. Disney is a huge target and a shooting would send there stock tumbling and take out a American icon. I will also add they have roving undercovers in Parks, by they are not everywhere.

All this is mute since Disney is private property and if you get caught all they can do is ban you, no jail unless you refuse to leave.

They knife in the bushes thing is a classic, do it all the time in Washington DC and other high security areas. the TSA can barely catch people but I hold Disney in higher regard, Good job Disney.

The presence will also deter people thinking it is harder and I for one will no longer carry there but I'll still have a knife (in the bushes so don't steal it Disney security or Pete), but never impossible.

Please forgive my tangent, but for whatever reason it makes me feel better mentioning this...

I was with my wife and 3 kids at Disney Springs this past Christmas night at the Boathouse when a flood of people starting running through the dinning room yelling that someone was firing a gun. Everyone in the restaurant suddenly dropped what they were doing and ran. It was a sinking feeling in my stomach hearing that and carrying my 3yo daughter running with everyone else out the back door of the Boathouse and through the streets. Awful. Needless to say, as reported by the DIS, it was not a shooter, but a fight that somehow starting a panic. But it was absolute chaos, and it felt very real.

I'm in full agreement of the metal detectors. Hopefully Disney will continue to get more. I definitely appreciate what they're doing.
If it was up to me, I'd walk everyone through a metal detector.

Thank God you, your family, and everybody was okay, and it was something else entirely. And I agree about the metal detector - whatever it takes, it takes. Will it stop all the whackos out there? No - nothing ever will, but it will be a start!

Sweet lord, why is there ever a reason for a knife or gun in the parks? Seriously?
A knife in the bushes isn't going to help you if you're in the back of fantasyland if something happens. I don't mean to be rude but I can't even remotely see the logic in that?

Yes hearing someone that carries a gun say they did their time and now do whatever they want while spouting off a bunch of racist remarks makes me feel so much safer.

I'm more afraid of people like this than I am of any risk of a terrorist attack.

This is Florida, everyone carries here and metal detectors are a "Deterrent", I travel and TSA couldn't find a bomb if it went off, so my point is guns are not bad, I carried one in the park every time,pretty sure it didn't hop out of my pocket and shoot Mickey. My reason for carrying at Disney, having bad security and being a big target. You can live in a blanket of peace and happiness but sounds like most of you never been into a ghetto or any third world country. So go ahead and name call , USMC 0351 I did my time. I do what I want now, let you know when I get one around the detectors once I figure them out. I bet I could hide it in my beard, they'd never know.

Also Hollow Points are what you're suppose to carry in a gun at least know what your talking about. A regular bullet can pierce multiple persons, it called a FMJ. See you learned a lot today

I actually agree with you, but gun violence isn't an issue in Australia, so I'm not as exposed to it as you guys are, but, you also don't hear of mass shootings in Australia. We had one in 1997, and instantly, zero tolerance, stricter gun laws, no more mass shootings (until one whack job a year ago spouting racist crap took people hostage, but their aim was to go to the TV studio next door to kill someone live on morning tv)

I quoted this because I don't want people to think all who serve are like this. If I carry a weapon, you will not know. If I go onto private property that explicitly does not allow weapons, I will follow their rules.

I still have issues with crowds and confined spaces, I am even insistent on where I sit in a restaurant so I can see the room, but I never have felt the need to carry in WDW. Yes, hollow points are not the same as steel talons, but unless everyone in the parks has a sidearm and has passed quals, why should anyone. That would be like saying 'I went to school for photography, so I should be allowed a selfy stick. This isn't the ghetto and it sure as hell isn't the green zone. Keep some of the Magic alive. Serving does not give anyone a privilege, it is a privilege to serve.

I think this is a good idea overall. I have a question through for anyone that has visited since they were installed. How is the experience? How sensitive? I only ask as we have a local amusement park that uses metal detectors during their Halloween events. It's a hassle to say the least. Keys in pockets set them off. Phones, jewelry, belt buckles etc. etc. I'm hoping this is not the case at WDW?

I was selected to go through them a couple of weeks ago. I removed my iPhone and watch, but not my belt. It was quick and easy. Pretty much identical to airport metal detectors I think. I should mention that while I was selected (and I'm completely fine with that) there were others not selected that had very loose, full coverage outer clothing that could easily conceal something. Now I'm a younger guy, and maybe fit a certain profile. I did see young adult women selected with relatively tight fitting clothing and no obvious place to hide anything. It was a hot December week. I guess I'm saying the selection feels a little random (at best) rather than targeted. But better than nothing. Hopefully it's a deterrent if nothing else.

Also, I seem to notice more armed police at the entrances than in the recent past, but maybe it's something I'm just paying more attention to now.
