The New Lizard Lounge

Good Morning All! I am sitting here, enjoying the beautiful morning, wondering how all of you are doing. It's been quiet in th eLounge, adn I keep thinking of everybody.
Tammi: I imagine that you are so busy with your kids this time of year. I remember the last month of school being a blur for me and I don't know how the kids did it. Between exams, plays, graduations, and sports, there was no time for anything else.

Elizabeth: How is your family? I see your posts sometimes, and would know it was you, even if Idid not see your name. You have such a lovely way of expressing yourself.

Angel: How are your plans coming for your trip? I see you got tagged over the weekend, you wild one, you! :goodvibes

Minniesummer: How are your Mom and Dad doing? I often think of your family. I continue to pray for all of you, and hope all is going okay for you. Your DD must be close to the end of the school year, now.

Steph: How is your new bundle of joy doing. He must be getting so big!

Minniesota: How is your Dad, and how are you doing? I was thinking of you, and wondered how your trip was. I remember taht you and your sister were going to visit. Prayers to your family.

Well, my family is doing well. My BIL is responding to treatment, so this is a blessing. My DS is still enjoying her MIL cooking, so everyone in their home is happy. My nephew is in Iraq, but he seems to have good spirits. He says that this base is a lot better than the last one, and he is busy, so he satisfied. He can email my sister, so she is more at ease thatn the last time when communication was sporatic. Please keep him in your paryers.

We may have a line on some acreage this summer. I don't think we can plant if we get it, but it would be a nice addition if it happens. DH is pessimistic because land is dear around here, and sheds are even harder to find, but I say if it is meant to be, we will get it, if not then we won't need to worry about it.

We are doing well, and planning our trip in January. I wanted to take my DGD in September for th free dining, but this will be her first year in school, and DD thinks she will be disrupted, so I thought about the last week in August. But... there always seems to be a but, doesn't there.... we are spending a lot on our home this summer, and I also want to finish the basement, so I decided not to strain our budget in order to save money. ( My first DH dad said that he never understood people who could go to thte poorhouse saving $$$$, but I could be one of those people. ;))

Well, I am off to work and then to DGD school! I hope all of you are enjoying the springtime. In the meantime, enjoy some fresh cantalope, grapes and pineapple, along with a nice cuo of Chai tea.

Hi Nancy  ,you hit the nail on the head with being busy. We just came off of school vacation and I don't feel like we got anything done. DH & DS went to France for a skating competition. Me and the girls stayed home and held down the fort. That actually translates to lots of dinners out and lots of trips to the ice cream parlor :teeth: . My DS has had 2 proms in the past few weeks, many skating shows, he got inducted into the National Honor Society and we're trying to nail down everyones summer schedule. My school keeps asking me if I'm going to work there this summer, but I just don't have the time. I'll be switching to my role as full time taxi driver for my kids instead. We have a competition coming up next month down on the Cape and were trying to find a way to squeeze in a few extra days for vacation. Unfortunately, DD and myself don't get out of school until the 21st or something ridiculous like that. So, we have the lake house rented in Lake Placid for August and the big skating competition this November is in Cleveland Ohio. I've been checking out accomodations there, but haven't been too happy with what I've seen. My life is an endless blur lately.

Glad to hear about your BIL. His family will continue to be in my thoughts.

MinnieSummer, you know my fave is the GF. I think I was a victorian lady in a past life, I just love the theme and I love waking up each morning and seeing the castle in the distance. We also spend a lot of time at the resort, so the amenities are important. The lounge is nice and big and because it opens up to the lobby below, I can enjoy my favorite past time of people watching. DH loves the spa and spends at least an hour or two there every day. My kids enjoy the pool and we always seem to be lucky with getting one of the cabanas. If we stay anywhere else, there's always a trade off. For example, the Epcot resorts have much smaller lounges and other than the BWI, absolutely no view. At the AKL, transportation would be an issue. I know that most people have no problems with it at all, my DH just prefers not to have to take the bus everywhere. Neither the Poly nor the CR theme appeal to me very much.

Prayers and best wishes to everyone. Happy Spring :hippie:

:sail: Just dropping by, I am so excited to find a nice note from Nancy and Tammi along with some yummy fresh fruit and Chai Tea. hmmm Thank you Nancy.

It certainly has been lonely here in the lounge. We must change that! :grouphug: and hang out here more before they take our wonderful lounge away from us.

Nancy56, I love your grandfather's statement of going to the poor house saving money. Yes, very true, laughable, but true. Many of us do that with our Disney trips. First we book our resort, then some activity comes along we want to do and we have to do that. We can save money if we change our dates and do free dinning, but the orginal resort is not available so we upgrade. I am so glad I have the DIS. I am learning everyday new and better ways to do things, places to see, experiences I have yet to have. Gosh, did you know there was a thread on polishing pressed pennies? Yes, and I have even added to it. :) Great information, I had no idea how many people are into it.

I keep your nephew in my prayers. How is he doing? Do you or your DS hear from him? Our SIL is still in Iraq, however he is now under 100 days. :tigger: He writes e-mails and calls whenever he can. We can't wait until he is home to stay.

Where are you staying for your January trip? How long are you going for this time? I am sure you will have a fantastic time. We are so looking forward to our Christmas holiday trip. Plus, it will be my birthday. Tim is already in contact with concierge planning a birthday surprise. I don't know how he will be able to out-do last year. (and he sound not try) But, it is fun to dream and see what he comes up with.

Tammi - I have received your PM and will be writing you soon! Your son is one talented and intellegent young man. But, he also is who he is because of you and your DH. Without your support, love and help he would not be able to excel like he has. So mom and dad deserve a BIG pat on the back and some extra magic. :tink: pixiedust: Thank you Tammi and husband for helping to make one of the future leaders of America. ::yes::

Elizabeth- I have not seen you in a long time. How is your Christmas trip planning going? We really need your sweet spirit here in our lounge. It just is not the same without you.

StephH- Ok, your the one with all the computer talent. We would love to see pictures of your little ones. I am sure you have your hands full with the new baby, if you have a few spare minutes it would be great to see pictures and know how you are doing.

Minniesummer- I still keep you and your family in my prayers. How are you doing? As far as your resort question. Wellll, I really, really love AKL. However it is not for everyone. This trip we are trying out Poly CL and BWI CL so I hope to have new experiences to share with everyone when we return. What time of year are you planning for? What all do you have planned so far?

Well, I had better get an e-mail off to concierge requesting our MVMCP tickets :santa: I think we will try LTT for dinner before the party. Anyone have any imput on them for dinner?

Take care, the Wild Woman is off to surf the DIS. :lmao:

Angel

Good evening to all!

I've been checking in now and then but life has been pretty chaotic so it's not as easy to hang out in the lounge.

My dad is hanging in there - no symptoms so far - so we are thankful for that. He is trying to decide if he will participate in a clinical trial - it would be fairly disruptive to his lifestyle and potential side affects are not pleasant. But it's really his only option in terms of treatment - and there's only a 15-20 percent response rate. Right now, he's leaning towards just enjoying whatever time he has - taking his walks in the woods, listening to the call of the loons and enjoying his days watching the beautiful lake with my mom.

In Disney news, we just booked a 7-day cruise next March. My brother's and sister's families will join us so the kids will love that since all the cousins are about the same age. I wish my folks could go but with my dad's prognosis, it probably isn't in the cards. My sister and family has never cruised but the rest of us have. It's 11 months away, but it's added a spark to my life.

Well, lizards - I've got to start the kid taxi but I'll leave a bottle of red zin and some aged gruyer on the sideboard. Please enjoy - I'll sample when I return the taxi! Livestrong, love life, laugh often...

Well this board moves so quickly I was wondering if the lounge was still active here.

*Angel - I'm not stalking you. Just reuniting with the other lizards if they'll have me. ;) Your plans so cool! That's great your SIL is returning from Iraq. Tell her and the family "Thank you for serving" from the Harlow family.

*Nancy - You too. Please express my sincere gratitude to your nephew and his family. I know it's tough on all of you. It's a great sacrifice.

~Praying for safe return home for them.~

Minniesota - I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. :guilty: I didn't know that was going on with you. I've been out of the loop in this neck of the woods for quite a while. It's good to know you have a big family cruise planned. Thanks for wine and cheese. Brownies are in the oven for dessert later. Vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce to go along with it....can someone say fudge brownie sundae? I'll put on a pot of decaf unless you prefer the totally leaded capuccino or latte. We have a maker for that. ;)

Howdy, Tammi! :wave2:

Elisabeth - Waz up? :teeth:

In case others don't know me, I'm in and I'm out and I'm back in. I have tendacies to book CL even though I have every intention of trying to stay non-concierge. Obviously my efforts are futile. I keep asking for the 12 step program booklet but somehow when it gets handed to me it gets stuff under the Luxury Guide to WDW. :rotfl2: I LOVE to resort hop. It's just three of us - DH, myself and DS9 (soon to be 10). I'm going back to AKL CL then the Disney Magic cruise then back to CR Atrium Club in June. Another trip is planned in July for a meet. I'd like to go again in October for my birthday but I'll have to see if if all the chips fall into the right place.

Okay - enough about me. I want to hear about you!

Whhheeewwwweeee, doggie, do we need that glass of merlot. I tipped the bellman $10 to start a bubble bath for us....did I mention he also doubles as a massage therapist?

Welcome VAgal Bonnie, Great to see you here. We certainly need your sence of humor here. :rotfl2: as well as all your knowledge.

I'll have a nice pour of that melot please. I'm next in line after VAgal for a massage. :thumbsup2

:cloud9:

LOL - I know just enough to be dangerous. I'm no expert by any means. However, I do know a few names at the spa. ;)

Has anyone done a wrap before? I've always opted for hot stone therapy or aromatherapy massages. I've booked my first one for June. I'm wondering how I should...um, dress or errr undress for this. KWIM?

American Idol is off so I better get the ice-cream and hot fudge sauce out for our sundaes. (sad, but true - I'm and idol-o-holic) Setting out the cordials to go along with it.

Ann, thanks for the compliment. I honestly don't know what we've done right, but we have been truly blessed with our kids. We did LTT before our MVMCP and loved it. I think I made the ADR for about 4pm and we still had time to hit some of the rides before the park closed. The character interraction there is probably the best that I've experienced. We had them visiting our table at least 3-4 times during our meal. The CM who was with them, even asked if we were celebrating anything special or if we wanted more time. The food was very good too.

Minniesota, continued prayers for your dad. He sounds at peace with his decision about maintaining a certain quality of life. I've been through that with my mom and the best anyone can do is suport them. I don't remember, have you gone on a Disney cruise yet? I never thought that we would enjoy a cruise and couldn't imagine a vacation that didn't involve the Magic Kingdom. Now we've done two and the kids constantly ask when we'll be booking the next one. I hear you on the taxi issue. Hang in there.

VaGal, hi! I think we've posted on some similar resort threads lately. How have you been? Hope life has been treating you well and your June trip sounds amazing. Okay, you asked, so I'll answer. I had the seaweed wrap done during one of our Disney cruises. You gotta take it all off baby  . They did give me some little paper panties to wear, but that was it. The whole procedure was done very professionaly though and I didn't once feel self conscious. It was new experience, but the whole body wrap thing felt marvelous.

I'm going to grab my glass of Baileys and settle in front of the TV for a little while. Between the rain outside and just getting back from the skating rink, I'm feeling a bit chilled. The Baileys will help warm me up I'm sure.

Did I miss brownie sundaes and cordials?????????? I was checking out a shed and some very old ground last night....in the rain.... and a nice brandy would have gone a long way towards warming me up. :goodvibes We have a feast or famine thing going on here, and go from not enough land to perhaps too many options. I hope DH decides that he is up to the long trek with equipment, because this is one pretty patch of dirt, but he is not happy with 8 miles dragging sprayers and plows :confused3 I tell him what is meant to be will happen.

VaGal: Thank you for your kind thoughts for Chris. It is hard on my sister to have him there again, but he can communicate this time, so she is in touch. He says he is on 12 of 12, but is called if there is more work.... he "sleeps near his birds". His brother has enlisted and is going this summer to Paris Island. We are concerned because he has not applied himself the way Chris did, and will most likely be infantry. Ihope his Angels are willing to work overtime.

Minniesota: Your Dad sounds like a very strong man of faith. He is in my daily prayers, as is your family.
I am looking forward to hearing about your cruise. We have never been on one, but I would love the opportunity. DD will not step on a ship though, the boat to the MK was traumatic, so if I want her family to join us we are landlocked.

Angel: First, I'm glad to hear that SIL is over the hump, and closer to coming home. It is so hard to be the ones left behind. I think of him every time I check out the AKL thread.
We have convinced my DH that we are making the supreme sacrifice by requesting a GV at the Poly this year. He asked us to "save money" so I told him that we really wanted CL with a MK view, but that because we did not want to be responsible for his high BP, we are going to "go cheap". Buddy thinks that there is such a thing as a "cheap" Disney vacation :rotfl::rotfl:because he has friends who camp or cook on vacation. Not this gal! And he would never be able to eat a Pop Tart for breakfast so there you go. And now he is a Disney snob.....

Oh well, I guess I better get started today. I am going to try to lose some weight, so I need to use up the yummy stuff I have here, so please enjoy the praline fench toast I set out along with a nice mimosa.

There's nothing like a mimosa to go along with brunch. ;) Many prayers will be said for your family, Nancy. Yours, too, Minniesota.

Tammi - I snuck in the back door. I promise I wasn't the one streaking. Thanks for the heads up. Thank goodness for paper panties. :teeth: I better make sure I requested a female.

I reckon I better do that work thing. I'll do some more catching up later on.

PRAYERS PLEASE HI everyone. I haven't been on in awhile because after my last post my life went into a tailspin. My father had a stroke, then a heart attack, then started to hemmorage )(I know that spelling is wrong but I can't think right now) He was life flighted to a coronary hospital and I flew up to help my mom through what we thought would be the end. My dad, as usual came through, but with serious paralasys on the left side. I'm not sure what the prognosis is yet. Then a week later my mother went in to the hospital with congestive heart failure. Life is never simple. In the meantime, I misssed my daughters performance at the Performing Arts Center, and then I missed her talent show. I have to go back on Friday because Saturday is her Firt Holy Communion and I can't miss that but now I'm faced with the daunting task of getting everything situated so I know that they will have the best care possible. It's a challenge but I think I can pull it off. Anyway, I'll give you all more when I'm back home. Prayers Please. For my parents comfort through this and for my sanity.

Minniesummer - I'm so sorry. :grouphug: I'm sure all of us here will most definitely be praying for your family.

MinnieSummer, most definitely a big hug for you. Are your mom and dad in rebah or do you need to make visiting nurse appointments and home health arrangements? Sending out prayers for continued strength and guidance.

Minniesummer - My heart goes out to you and I'll keep your family in my prayers. I don't like this role reversal with our parents but I guess it is part of life. Please take care of yourself whenever you can - a quick nap, coffee with a friend, a warm bath or checking into the lounge. Hang in there...

Tammi, Nancy and VAGal- Thanks for the kind words and prayers. My dad is a wonderful man, loved by all, and a great example to his family and friends. He is at peace it seems - the rest of us need to get there.

If there is one little thing I can pass along...learn about melanoma. It is the fastest growing cancer and there is no cure. Many people think "oh, it's just skin cancer" but melanoma is deadly. So protect your skin, never go to a tanning salon and see a dermatologist about any suspicious mole you or someone you know may have. I can't believe how many young people this disease strikes - especially men - so watch your husbands, sons and SOs.
Oh, and make sure your sunscreen has one of the following ingredients: avobenzone, Parsol 1729 (both chemical sunblocks), titanium dioxide or zinc oxide (physical blocks). Lecture over!

Well, DH and I are taking in a Twins game tonight so we can catch up on life. Lord knows the Twins aren't much to write home about so far this year! So it's kettle corn, brats and beer for me tonight - have fun in the lounge, lizards!

Minniesummer- Oh my, you most certainly have our prayers. I am so sorry to hear about both your Mom and Dad. I went through a similar care giving situation with my Mom and Dad a couple of years ago. It is so difficult, you are always second quessing yourself in finding them the best care. You will certainly be lifted in prayer by all of us here. I pray your parents may find peace and comfort, but I also am praying for you and your health. Remember you can always come here to vent, cry or just sit in a comfortable chair and have a cup of tea or something stronger. I hope you can enjoy your weekend with your daughter and family. How wonderful First Communion.

Minniesota- It is good you hear your father is so strong and able to enjoy his walks and the beautiful world we have been given. You as your family are in my prayers.
I am so glad you have your Disney cruise to look forward to. Maybe someday we can go on one. I was looking into doing a family cruise for our two daughters and their families when our SIL returns from Iraq. However, it seems very expensive when compaired to other lines. I envy that you will be able to go. You must share with us your experiences when you return. Please!

Very important and thank you for sharing. My DH was diagnosed with melanoma on his forehead April 2005. He gets a full body check every three months. He just had one last week and he is CLEAR! Praise God! First year completely clear.

VAGAL - Have you ever had a facial at AKL spa? I have NEVER had one and am considering it. What do you all think?

Elizabeth Elizabeth - Where are you we miss you and your loving ways. :sunny:

TammiMcMan- Thank you for the information regarding LTT. Your seal of approval was all I needed I called today and booked our tickets for MVMCP with a ADR for LTT for that night. Woo Hoo Two first for us! I am still going answer your PM, really I am. :rolleyes1

Nancy - So have you made a decision on the land? I love beautiful fresh land. We have a small (6 acre) lot in Northern Wisconsin. It is so beautiful, hard woods, lots of berch trees. Oh, I love berch! And such a difference from where we currently are. AAAAhhhhh someday we will retire up there for the summers.

Time for afternoon snacks for everyone so I am putting out a spread of soups and desserts from La Cellier. Yummy, one of my favorites. Naturally, I must leave a large plate of Zebra Domes in honor of my Jambo Wild Bunch Tag. :cheer2:

Prayers and Hugs for all in need, and for those who arn't too. :grouphug:

Angel - I've not done a facial at WDW, but at another spa. It was nice, but I think I'm more of a massage gal. Are you looking at a particular one? Hmmm, maybe pair it with a pedicure.

I have to wear sunscreen because of my condition. In fact, the whole family has followed suit. I have to wear a hat, too, even though I look like a complete dork with one. I had a respite from the said dorky hat this past Feb. It was nice to be photographed without one FINALLY! Back to dorkville this summer though. :rolleyes2

I think #1Hockeymom - Debbie should be tagged with the Wild Bunch tag. She's a hard core AKL lover also. ;)

VaGal - What condition do you have - if you don't mind my asking? I know what you mean about looking like a dork in a hat - I feel the same way! But when I'm in any kind of longer term sun, it's a hat for me. I see you are taking a cruise next month - which itinerary? We are on the Eastern but not until March. My family went on the Eastern in January '04 and loved it. This time, there will be a big group of us. My sister and brother and families will be joining us - and we are going to extend an invitation to my mom and dad. Of course, the future is so uncertain but we thought it might be something to work towards. We'll see...

Angel - I didn't know that your DH had a melanoma diagnosis. If you are interested, there is a great discussion board that i've found...

www.mpip.org

Just make sure your DH stays on top of it. My dad's first melanoma was 11 years ago and he went through five years of quarterly and bi-annual exams followed by yearly exams up until melanoma reared its ugly head again in Feb. Tell your DH to pay special attention to his lymph nodes - and there are a lot of them in the human body!

Well the Twins won last night - a fun diversion and just what I needed! My DH and I bought a cabin in northern Minn. this winter and we are busy re-habbing it. Lots of work but it will be great this summer. We bought the place next to my parents so we're really familiar with the area. (We've been on the lake for almost 40 years!) Dh went up last weekend and launched our new pontoon. My folks have always wanted one but the 7 kids always came first. When I asked my dad if there was anything he really wanted to do, he said "ride around on the pontoon" - we'll make sure he gets lots of rides this summer.

Thanks for all your prayers, everyone! Happy Cinco de Mayo! Check out the lounge for margaritas and nachos!!

We chose the Western for the activities. I hope we'll be able to do the Eastern but it may not be until the year 2009! We're going to Hawaii next year and then we may be vacationing with my sister in Bar Harbor, ME in 2008. Now, she'll do a cruise with us so 2008 is a possibility. :wizard:

I haven't really shared this before, but I have lupus. It put a cramp in my style quite a few years ago as I'm the outdoorsy kind of person. I'm sensitive to the sun now I've had to find ways to work around it. Even with a hat it still can act up. I have such a little head that children's hats look better on me size wise, but I look even more ridiculous with the kiddy themes. :rotfl: I need to find a place that carries an assortment of women's hats. I did find a site that has hats with SPF in them. I lucked out and the girl lived right up the road from where I work so I could pop by and pick them up. Problem with it is that it's bucket style. I was desparate since we were heading to the beach so to heck with what I looked like in it at that point. I need to dig around to find that site address as you may be able to find some cool digs for yourself and others in your family.

Hi Ladies!
I think it is finally warming up here, so I am trying to get some yard work done. We have a lot to do because we let a lot go while we were adding on and renovating, so this year we have a lot to do. I am having a retaining wall installed and adding a fairly large planting bed in the front yard. How I am going to fill 60 feet of wall with shade loving plants that wont get crushed by an avalanche of snow is killing me. :confused3 This will be it until falltime.

WE decided to take the little piece of land. We are renting, I had heard that it was rent with an option, but that does not seem to be the case. Anyway, if any of you have heard of the movie Parrish, it was filmed on this property. It's going to be crazy here because Buddy needs to get the field in shape and get chemicals ordered and I seem to be his personal secretary. Got him a cell phone, and that was my biggest mistake. :goodvibes

Minniesota: Melanoma is such an incidious disease. I am a busybody at heart, so I tend to "advise" people to watch out for tanning booths and sunning too much. I always worry about my SIL because she has has breast cancer, with a mastectomy after it recurred, and she is at teh beach every weekend durun the summer. She has a beautiful tan, but I worry.
So glad you enjoyed the game!

Angel: A wooded lot is perfect to look forward to! My DS has a home in western NY, on 10 acres of wooded land. He has not sold it, so I think that he wants to go back someday.

VaGal: I saw your awesome Pics that you posted on the AKL thread. They are stunning!

Minniesummer: I am still thinking about you. Keep your faith, and stay strong. God Bless.

Tammi:
I so remember those busy days in May. Congradulations to you and to your son on his accomplishments! You are truely a family affair in all that you do! Stay sane, June will be here.

Well, I am of to work now but I am testing out some recipes for company on Saturday, so try some prosciutto roast pork and a little parmesan roasted potatoes. A bite of chocolate cake filled with raspberry cream cheese frosting? Did I say I was dieting so that I can fit into my summer clothes????????:guilty:

Popped in for a lurk but I can't resist a quick room wave to all given the recent flurry of activity here! (Will have to do it without a "smilie" since our latest computer upgrade seems to be choking on a lot of graphics... insert eyeroll here, LOL!)

First things first... minniesota, MinnieSummer, Nancyg56... will continue to keep you and your loved ones in my prayers. Angel16... glad to see you posting again and trust that Tim is getting stronger every day. How fun for you to be in planning mode and for Christmas time no less... my favorite at Disney!

Hi VAgal76! It was fun reading about your latest planned adventures. You DO know how to travel!! I believe a cruise HAS to be in our future at some point. (Actually I have to say that Mediterranean itinerary for next summer really caught my eye, but I digress...) Your mention of #1Hockeymom brought back some fun memories of posting in the past. Time has really flown!

Hi TammiMcMan! Lake Placid in August sounds lovely. Will you actually be there for a month or is that my wild, wishful thinking imagination? As kids, we used to vacation for stretches like that (more like, my mom would be with us kids and my dad would come for the weekends plus his one week vacation). These days I think I'm doing well when I can actually string two weeks together back-to-back!

We have been doing the busier-than-ever thing. We are in cheer hiatus which lasts about a month. Can't remember when I last posted but DD15 got through half the competition season without injury and then broke two fingers so spent the balance cheering from the sidelines. She is loving her HS though and is doing well there. Now we just have to hope that the school doesn't go the way of many others in this shaky fiscal climate.

We are also zeroing in on our choice of a new home and tweaking this one to sell. Where did all this accumulation of stuff come from anyway?! Yikes! We spent spring "break" beginning the thinning/sprucing up process and are hoping to be market ready by the end of the month. Guess it would be a heck of a lot easier if I didn't let work and kids get in the way! :) We do have a first and second choice home picked out and are just about ready to make an offer. Will report back when I've got some good news!

Regards to ead79, StephH and anyone else I have have missed. Enjoy your weekend everyone...
