My teenage son liked sleeping on the daybed at the polynesian, if that helps. It was 2 years ago when he was 15 and he was about 5 feet 8 inches at the time. Carolyn

Thanks, Goofyandmore, for the information. It sounds like the daybed is a nice fit for someone up to 5' 8" in height.

We will be checking in to the GF next Sunday, March 26. I plan on my son using the daybed. I will let you know the measurements and how it worked out (or didn't) when I get back after April 4.

Lives4Disney, you've got two Top Secret Missions to accomplish during your upcoming Grand Floridian stay:

1) Photos of new cabanas
2) Measurement of daybed

I wish you luck. Godspeed, my friend. ;)

Janet2K - TOO funny! Oh that Tom Cruise is a hotty! :teeth:

I will complete the double mission. :thumbsup2

Hey, just so you all know regarding the Poly daybed - it is a regular twin size unlike the GF daybeds which are not. My son has no problem in the Poly beds, but that GF bed is getting tighter on him with every trip!! No complaints yet, but we'll see this time. The GF does have twin size rollaways, though, so that really may be a good option.

I will let you all know how it works out!

I am avoiding packing.......there is just something about it I hate! Probably knowing that everything that goes into that suitcase has to come out and be laundered when I am down in the dumps home from my great vacation.

Happy travels!

Lives4Disney, thank you for accepting your mission. Let’s synchronize our watches, so to speak. The GF FAQ thread needs the width, length, and height of the daybed (the distance from the floor to the bedding). That should cover all bases. ;)

By the way, if it’s any consolation, I hate packing too. I find it truly a necessary evil. Arg!

I look forward to viewing your photos of the new cabanas. I will pass along the link to whatever you post to my friends. They are anxious to see the cabanas (and are hopeful that the resort will make the pilot program a permanent one). Thanks in advance.

I went to a birthday party for a dear friend of mine this afternoon. It was a tea party that was held in a tea house, and it reminded me of the afternoon tea that is held inside the Grand Floridian’s Garden View Lounge: click here for Dis info and click here for AllEarsNet info.

Having tea with my friends really made me wistful for a Walt Disney World vacation, ~sigh.~ I will definitely be booking an afternoon tea in the Garden View Lounge for my next vacation.

We have an ADR for tea the afternoon we check in! We are really getting excited!

Oh, sure, rub salt in my wounds, Jacksmom. (Just kiddin'!)

Have a wonderful tea. And take some photos to share with those of us who are stuck at home living vicariously through you. ;)

Thanks! I do have a nice digital camera and do plan on taking lots of pics of GF rooms and grounds, tea, and the new pool cabanas! :rotfl2: But, will probably need some help when we get home with posting pics! If anyone has any pic requests I would be happy to help :cheer2: for some posting help in return!

Boy, Jacksmom, between you and Lives4Disney, we're gonna get some wonderful photos in this thread, I can just tell. By the way, I hope the two of you will be able to meet during your vacations since I believe they're overlapping. I've always met the nicest Dis'ers during my vacations.

As to posting photos, I never post them in threads so someone else will have to help you with that (or you can go to the Dis' Technical Support board for help). I only post links to photos that are in my Yahoo on-line photo albums. Please note that you can put photos on the Dis (click here), on Yahoo, on Shutterfly, on Ofoto, on Snapfish, on Club Photo, on Flickr, and any other number of on-line photo hosting services (most offer some sort of free on-line storage). After you've uploaded your photos to the 'net, simply post a link to them here so that we may view them.

I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

I've noticed alot of people have had some really great chocolates, etc sent to their rooms, where have you ordered them from and can you see a picture of what you will ordering? I would like to have something special sent to our room for my husband and sons.

didnt get the detailed answers that I was hoping for, so I thought I would go straight to the top, the GF Thread!

We are checking in to GF RPC early on a Saturday. I understand that our room will not be ready, but we want to get our tickets and go to Epcot.

How long will it take to check in? How long does it take to monorail over to the TTC, switch monorails, and then get to Epcot?

What time should we be arriving at the GF in order to be at Epcot for opening?

Thanks for your help GF experts! Just 49 more days!

Lives4Disney and "all"-Thanks for the help with the daybed, all information -especially measurements are greatly appreciated.
Lives4Disney- I have also done a few days at PBH in the past 2 years and you will just love this hotel also. It is a vey relaxing atmosphere. I wish Disney would start FOTL with onsite guests. I can dream can't I? :cloud9:

THANKS!! That's great to hear!! This will be our first time trying Universal and the PBH. I already am kind of impressed with their concierge staff etc. Our stay is only for two nights because we really just did not know what to expect and weren't sure we would like Universal/PBH as much as WDW. We have been to WDW over 30 times over the past 14 years and never even been tempted to try Universal, but our son really wants to - we figure he has taken his sisters on Dumbo, PP, and Small World enough times that he deserves it!

I will definitely report back on the daybed and cabana info and anything else that comes up.

Happy travels,

Garada, I have been thinking about your question for a while. I have had some nice quick check ins at the GF, and also some slow ones - once we could not find any concierge staff available to escort us up, once my credit card co denied my charges at check in!! (their security decided it was unusual for me - from IL - to be charging in FL) Anyway, it could take 20 minutes to an hour to check in, depending.

To get to TTC takes about 10 - 15 minutes. To get to Epcot from there another 15 - 20 - estimating. You go all around FW before you exit the monorail. The timing depends on whether you are able to catch a waiting monorail or have to wait for one, too!! I think 30/40 or so minutes from GF to Epcot station is about average.

You are really ambitious to try and make it over there on your check in day before the park opens!! Good luck! I have NEVER been to Epcot at opening!!!

If you're arriving early, it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes or so from the time you pull up, to the time you're checked in.

How long does it take to monorail over to the TTC, switch monorails, and then get to Epcot?
This option can be very slow. I would plan at least 30 minutes, just from the monorail to the security line. It's not uncommon that at the opening, you're going to find yourself standing in a very long line.

What time should we be arriving at the GF in order to be at Epcot for opening?
Just my opinion, but I would take a taxi from the GF right over to the BC and walk to the back entrance of Epcot. This way will probably take you about 10 - 15 minutes at the most and the line there is alot shorter. Assuming Epcot opens at 9am, I would arrive at the GF around 7:45am. Drop your bags with bell services, wait for your GF escort, check in, head back downstairs, out the front door, have them hail you a cab (usually waiting right there anyway) and off you go to the BC.

I answered as many questions as I could the other day in your thread (click here). I'm sorry they weren't the answers that you were looking for. Hopefully, you went to the Transportation Board and found what you were looking for in regards to transportation.

Jimenyfan, if you are a concierge guest, ask them to suggest a few treats for your family. If you are not a concierge guest, the resort's Private Dining staff should be able to tell you what they have available.

My family has received some really fun gifts while being guests of the resort. I have photos of a few of the items in an on-line photo album: click here. I don't know if all of those items are still available, but you can certainly inquire about them when you speak with a Cast Member. (I should note that the items in my photo album were gifts so I apologize for not knowing how they were ordered or what their pricing was.)

Have a wonderful vacation, and please share with us here a description of the treats that you surprise your family with (and if you have photos, please consider sharing them, too).

Jimenyfan, I can't believe that I forgot to mention the Disney Florist, ~gulp,~ since I just used them last week to send a surprise to one of my favorite Dis'ers, Bonzie1.

Bonzie1 and her husband were in WDW for their wedding anniversary. They weren't going to be in town for a full week so I didn't want to send them a floral arrangement. I placed a phone call to the Disney Florist and asked if they could throw together a gift pack filled with munchies. My thinking was that since their vacation was only going to be a couple of days in length, whatever munchies were left over could easily be packed into a carry-on bag for their flight home. Well, the Disney Florist said they had just the item for my friends: click here.

I had bottled water added to the base order (I could have added other beverages but thought bottled water was best for a busy day in the theme parks). I believe my final bill came to just about $70.

Bonzie1 just returned from her vacation. I thought I would share here what she had to say about her gift:

Hi Janet!

Aren't you the Jane Bond of surprises!!!

We checked in at 5:30 and then off to dinner at Living Seas (which was WONDERFUL).

We got back to the room around 10:30, and there waiting was a SPECIAL SURPRISE from you and Rick. It was a Disney tote trimmed in red with the DISNEY logo in the center. It was filled with treats of all kinds... fresh fruit, crackers, shortbreads, cheeses, pretzels, chips, Cheetos, Fig Newtons. We had breakfast several mornings from our pantry of food items :-).

Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness. It was a wonderful start to our special trip. I did take some pictures of the arrangement. Will send them when I get things sorted out from the suitcases, etc.

Thanks so much for your pixie dust!

Bonzie1

When Bonzie1 shares her photos with me, I will ask her if I can share them here, too, since most folks find it helpful to see a photo of something before they order it (I know that I find it helpful).

I should mention that I have used the Disney Florist before, and have also been the recipient of their handiwork. I have always been pleased with everything.

I hope this helped.
