sillyguys-I have photos of a deluxe room taken prior to the renovations. They are from December 2004 and are not the greatest, but you can get an idea!

This first photo is taken from the door entry area. When you walked in the room, there was a big open entry area. The bathroom was to the left, closets were angled on the bedroom wall (also to your front, left) and there was a wet bar and phone table on the right side of this entry area. This is looking into the rest of the room.

The room had 2 queens and the desk was on the opposite wall:

Hope that helps!

Minniesota. . . thanks so much for the pictures. That was just was I was looking for. It looks like a great room!

I will be checking into the GF in one short week! I believe I have been upgraded:blush: I booked a regular Main Building room but recieved an email yesterday that said Deluxe Concierge room BO as opposed to the first confirmation email which said standard room - club level BJ. Maybe they moved us in order to accomodate SL people????

Interesting! I guess we'll see when we check in! We are only there for 2 nights (26th and 27th) so I'm sure that has something to do with it. The only request I made was a monorail view (Beach Pool) or the castle as a second choice.

Never had an upgrade. Ever. And I've been going to Disney for a while! I'll take pictures and let you know.:rolleyes1

Oooh! Maybe you'll get the room we had in 2004. We could definitely see the beach pool and monorail. It was a great room just across the open lobby from the lounge. Wishing you some pixie dust!:wizard:

Tinks & Kona Queen, have a great time!:goodvibes

Wow, lucky you guys going so soon & I hope you get great rooms and upgrades! You have to come back and share the fun news with us. :wizard:

Neversaynever, I hope you can get those pictures to work. I get so frustrated with anything computer....I am THANKFUL for my computer guru DH and computer geek son. :thumbsup2 Last Xmas we ordered a gingerbread house that was delivered by PD. Then, on Xmas Eve the GF brought a complimentary platter of treats to EVERY room. They were soooo pretty. I suppose there is no reason it couldn't be ordered because it's all stuff they sell at the house in the lobby and white chocolate and sugar figures they use to decorate the gingerbread houses. PS....I will be disappointed if I get a room w/out wallpaper. I am interested to see your pics. I like all the mixymatchy prints etc. I still think the way they have that sofa blocking the bottom of the mirror in Minniesota's RPC room is wrong. They should have taken a few extra minutes and rehung that higher.

Minniesota - More great pictures!! I love that deluxe room. I saw one once and was really impressed with how much larger they are. I thought I might consider giving up the MK view for all that extra floor space, but I really do love sitting on the balcony and watching Wishes. Tough trade off.

Heres a couple pics......

This picture might explain the mirror problem! (sorry about the quality)

Ah....hmmm.....I did see somebody else's pics and the mirror was hung at a better height so when I saw yours I thought...geesh. Kinda sloppy. Now I get it. :upsidedow I would have thought they would have planned a little better.:confused3 Kind of strange considering all the thought they seem to put in the decorating.

Thanks Woody....I still have the white chocolate Xmas tree and snowman in our freezer....along with other white chocolate goodies from that trip that wre on DD's bday cake. I need to dump them!

Minniesota.. thanks for the tip on how your posted... but even more thanxs for all the awesome pictures. Soon I will get back to trying to get my pictures to appear... but the pale in comparison...

I really wnat to post the picture of our room... decorated pretty much the same but the one glaring (well to me) omission is that the walls were bare.. no wall paper. Wanted everyones thoughts on that. So hopefully tomorrow at work I will give it another try.

Now to more pressing business... We did we got plane tickets so it loks liek we are heading back for a very short 3night stay at GF in mid December... Somehow, I really do think if I stayed at Poly I would be pining away looking at GF.

So... tell me the special things I need to know about a stay at GF right before Xmas... what shoudl we not miss etc...

Oh, Channing.. did you say that there were special things you can order (treats) from private dining for the Holidays? Do tell... even better any pictures? Thanks to you we had many wonderful treats during our first visit this past Sept. Can't do as many this time,.... but I thought maybe just one.

Oh... and not so much GF related but can someone enlighten me as what to expect in terms of weather and what should I be packing?

Thanks everyone... (for turning me into a GF addict).

Best!

I forgot to tell you how wacky the weather was for us last Dec. Check accuweather really close to your departure date. You will probably need layers. We had some days we could have swam (VERY MUGGY and hot) and others where we wore jeans and jackets. It rained a lot during our stay, too.

One thing that is neat in Dec is that each evening there is a different musical group performing in the lobby near the huge Xmas tree. It was neat to listen to them. They hand out roasted chestnuts at the front exit. Sometimes there were Xmas cookies and punch, too. Near the Gingerbread house in the afternoons there is a little gingerbread house decorating demo. It's cute and she hands out samples. We were introduced to the lady in the demo pic & she decorated a gorgeous Xmas bday cake for DD they brought out a Citricos. I did not find the lobby crowded during the daytime AT ALL. No line for the gingerbread house and not a crowd for this demo. We had no problem taking pics in the lobby during the day time. Bfast & dinner hours were another story. Just an FYI if you want to take some pretty Xmas pics in the lobby.

Ellen doing the demo about 1 pm....I think she does it about every 15 to 20 minutes for an hour or so daily.....It seemed to be something nobody knew about.

This is Christmas Day at AK.....HOT and MUGGY!! We went on kali water rapid ride over and over again - it was a great walk on!!!! The pictures of my girls in front of the Gingerbread house were taken about noon on Christmas Day. I had some weird setting on my camera and they turned out grainy.....Not even sure why.

Minnesota: Thanks for posting the pictures of the deluxe RPC rooms, I haven't come across any. I saw the layout Tammi posted, but it's hard to get a feel of how much room it really is.

Sillyguys: I'm not sure when your trip is, but if you want a deluxe room I'd book as soon as possible. I did notice that room catergory went fast for our trip.

Lives4Disney: I can't wait for my daughter to see that gingerbread house. I'm not sharing any of the wonderful extras with the kids, I want them to be surprised.
That's very interesting about the weather...I wasn't planning on bringing swimwear, but I will now. I assumed it would be way too cold to be going in the pool. Thanks for that info.

You will love your stay at the GF during Xmas. It is magical.

I just remembered something funny.....a couple nts during our stay, some naughty "elf" ate part of the house and it would have to be redone here and there in the mornings. Can you believe it?? People are nuts.:rotfl:

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but keep your eyes open for the Hidden Mickeys all over the Gingerbread House. We found something like a dozen last year.

And, for the record, the pieces we tried were not that bad. I'm hoping some of the xmas stuff gets up before we leave this year.

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post to the forum. I've been reading all your post and you have lots of great advice.

I started to make plans for December 2008 this week. I had planned on booking the SL for the week of 11/30 to 12/6. Rooms were available and I made the mistake of thinking I could wait to book till today, but when I try to book on line it's all sold out now. That's what you get for procrastinating I guess. My question is this. Should I go ahead and book a regular room at this time and keep checking back for cancellations? Should I call Disney directly? Lastly, If I do book a standard room at this time how should I go about waitlisting for the SL.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Lisa

We were there from Dec 7 thru the 14th. We swam the first two days, temps in the middle 70's. Middle two days it got down in the 50's during the day and then back up to the 70's for the last couple of days and more swimming. WE had stayed at the Poly last year, but on the cold days, there were still people swimming in the pools. All are heated. Kinda made for wearing a nice warm White robe down to the pool for. We will be at the GF this Nov. Do they still give you the robes?

Enjoy your trip.

I had never seen great pix of deluxe RPC rooms (nor did I see one when we were there). Now I know how much we truly missed when we were "downgraded" from deluxe to standard by IPO CM's and room assignors who had misinformation from CRO. This was very unfortunate as we needed the deluxe for more floor space for our disabled son'. He could have been indendent in deluxe, but was utterly dependent in standard. It made a big difference to him.

I apologize for this whining, especially for those who have heard me before. But...OMG...I never really appreciated just how much better the deluxe would have been...it would have been perfect! No wonder the CM's worked hard to try to compensate us. I'll have to show my hubby - but not my son!

Believe it or not these pix actually made me cry.

OK, I promise not to whine about this on this thread again. But thank you - I have always wondered what it would have been like and now I know. And I know I'll never go back to the GF unless we can reserve one.

I saw on the conceirge schedule for RPC that beer was out with 5-7 appetisers, is it still out with desserts and cordials?
