Hi Buzz!

I've been reading the Dis since April 2005 and love your comments and pictures!

I stayed at CSR last Oct & Dec and am going back November but am on a tight budget. My friend and I are going, no kids, and would like to have a few beers after the parks close (real early compared to the summer months!) I remember the last time a six pack was about $10 or $12. This is going to break the bank for us since we will be there for 8 days! Would you know the best way for us to get to the nearest supermarket from the CSR? We will not have a car since we will be taking the ME.

Much appreciation for any help you could give us!!

Check here for the closest stores. There's a Publix 3 miles away and a WaltMart SuperCenter 5 miles away.

Just returned from 11 days in WDW. Glad to be home! Just wanted to let you all know that our first 4 nights were at CSR and even though we thought the resort was nice and were fine with our room (8A, 2nd floor facing the Ranchos), we were not at all impressed with the service. Just not as top notch as CBR.
We also stayed at the Swan and CBR. Our 4 nights at the Swan went down to 1 because of the room (smell and not fans), so we added 3 nights to our prexisting 2 at CBR. Felt sooo much better there. The crowds were too high for us, we've been spoiled in the past with walking onto things.

We were there 9/2 - 9/6 and really thought the service was lacking too. We were so disapointed. We had better service at Pop Century! I know that they were busy as the Tom Joiner reunion was going on, but we all are paying customers. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes at the coincerge or the front desk, everyone just never smiled, and always seemed in a hurry or bothered to have to help you. We left tips daily for the maid and never even received any towel creations and sometimes just a bed made without replenishing towels, coffee, etc. I don't know if we'd go back even though it is beautiful. It just doesn't seem worth the extra price if everyone seems bothered to help you.

Sorry about your stay Julie. I wish it could have been more magical for you. In a perfect world CSR would be for everyone. Welcome back!

Honestly I think it was just because they were so swarmed from the Tom Joiner reunion, but it shouldn't matter. Anyway we had a great get away without the kids. A little more smiles and friendly faces would have been nice and made it a bit more magical.

Buzz let me know if you want my comments off your excellent FAQ thread.

We were at CSR 9-5 thru 9-11. I will post a short report on the Resorts board later and I have a "Free Dining" report on the Dining Plan board you can check out. We had Cabanas 9B which was good. We had reserved a standard view, but the room faced a little pond but the view was all blocked by vegetation. I am not sure if this was an upgrade or not. We did get the building we requested but most locations would have been fine.

I thought the resort was as nice as last year. Staff were friendly and very efficient. Pepper Market wes mostly good. Everything was nice and clean.

My only real complaint was with the Sterling jewelry group which arrived Sunday afternoon. The group was huge and caused long lines at Pepper Market but worse they were heavy drinkers and drank all over El Centro including in the gift shop! Not a family friendly atmosphere at all. They also trashed some of the shared areas (and bathrooms, yech). CSR staff had the place all cleaned by Monday morning but again by lunchtime Pepper Market was overwhelmed. I don't mind conventioneers but the Sterling people were pretty trashy, unlike the American Gypsum Association which preceeded them. Luckily no drunken noisy jewelry shills were staying near our room and Sunday night was quiet.

We did have next door guests who would not control their kids one night (they were banging on our outside door and window late one night). I went out to yell at them and never had another problem.

My wife's one complaint: we never got a towel bunny. Last year we got a bunch and I tipped the same this year--$5-6 a night. Room imperfections: not enough outlets, mold/mildew inside the shower curtain hooks, shower curtain falling apart, and door to thermostat unit broken. But these are all tiny issues.

Pepper Market food--huge portions, enough for 3-4 people sometimes, and good service. I thought the "counter service" prime rib was pretty good and I ate the whole thing--it was huge. They sort of need more breakfast options, most of their combos are a combination of scrambled eggs/omelette with fried potatos. The bakery stuff was great though, including muffins which feed two.

Welcome back Portie. Sorry your trip wasn't as magical as last years. Noisey neighbors and a bad group of conventioneers stinks. I think WDW security should maintain a better presence when this type of situation presents itself. As for towel animals, those are always hit or miss and any resort.

thinking of staying at casitas 5 (waterview) nice building, it was the first one we stayed in at CSR. Try for one of the rooms facing the lake overlooking the fountain. There are 4 floors in this building. The higher floors may get to see some of the higher fireworks from Epcot.

close to bus a little secluded and with nice view. dont mind walking. what room do you think is best. Here are some good room choices...

Cabana 9b is close to bus stop 1 and the main building with a short walk to the Dig Site (main pool) over the wooden bridge. Most convenient location and most preferred.

Cabana 8a is close to the Dig Site (and playground) and bus stop 4 with a short walk to the main building. (Closest to the Pool)

Cabana 8b and 9a are in between the 2 above. 9a has a quiet pool and is also a smoking optional building.

Ranchos 7b has a quiet pool, is close to the Dig Site and bus stop 4 with a bit longer walk to the main building. 7b is behind cabana 8a.

Casita 3 has great courtyard and fountain views but you will have to walk or ride the internal shuttle to get to the pool.

Casita 5 has some nice fountain and lake views and is close to the Dig Site but farther from the main building.

Buzz, on another thread you posted the most gorgeous pics of the CSR. This resort had not even crossed my mind (infact just about all the others DID) because we went there in 2002 for 2 nights, and I just didn't see it as being that kid oriented. It was very nice, just not really "Mickeyish". I had booked CBR for this December trip, thinking the pool looked like POTC ish....for the kids. Anyway, I WAS kind of nervous about some of the things said about CBR...buses being super crowded, really huge resort, ...nothing major...then I stumbled on the other thread for CSR with your beautiful pictures. And the info about it being a quieter less hectic resort because of convention folks doing their thing and busses being less crowded...anywho....I showed the pool pics and the "big Mayan head" from the playground to my DS6 and DS8 (they say they remember the giant head..) and the pyramid, and the pool slide....and ---they chose CSR!!! I am really happy with our choice, and I think I can finally leave my ressie alone. The Cast Member giggled when I called and mentioned all my changes so far..she said something like, "Yes, I see...you have 6 changes!" (I think there were more, I could wallpaper with all the confirmation/cancellation letters!) Thanks for the info...and the great pics.
