Here's a stunner, from www.screamscape.com ... supposed renderings of the new DVC wing of the Contemporary. The website reports they were spotted on the website of an architectural firm, which when it realized they were public, quickly took them down. At the very least, whether legit or not, they are AWFULLY intriguing.

CR IPO told me the following in an e-mail about this today:

The north garden wing is being converted into a DVC resort. As far as
the rumors regarding the Concourse steakhouse and the Food and Fun
Center there has been nothing confirmed. Concourse will undergo
renovations but not until late next year.

The guy that posted this a few days ago also dug up some documents that DVD was redoing some room on the 5th floor of AKL as model rooms.

So we might be seeing both in the near future.

This was actually reported first by one of our own DISsers. Tink10 reported the results of her research on Sunday on the DVC miscelleaneous board and TroyWDW reported on the AKL/DVC. :teeth: There are several interesting thread to read on that forum. Then some other sites picked up on it.

We'll all have to wait and see how it pans out but it sure looks likely doesn't it?

Hmm, I saw this info posted on another board last Friday...

:shrug

p.s. i hate that design, looks like a condo from south beach.

<<they are AWFULLY intriguing>>
AWFUL is the operative word..BLECH ..!!

It looks like they rounded the CR and then just opened it up.It's OK and I would try it if I could get in.

I think it sticks out like a sore thumb. It takes away from the main tower and the monorail going thru it. Just my opinion from a person who loves the contemporary. :confused3

IMHO - there are thousands of talented architecture students in school at any given time. This looks like it could be just a class project one of them came up with and decided to post on the web. A couple of drawings mean nothing,

Blue prints are a little more convincing,

construction means everything :teeth:

Those images came off of the website of the firm that also designed the convention center at the Contemporary and they currently have multiple projects going on in NYC. So that seems fairly convincing to me that something is up.

Well this was an architectural firm in New York City that had this rendering listed as one of their current projects. It wasn't just any ol' website. :teeth:
I am excited already!!!!!!

come over to the DVC boards - there are several discussions about it over there...

My DS4.5, DH and I are staying at the CR for the first time from Sept.27-Oct.4. We have stayed at ASMo for the past 2 years, but this year we decided to splurg and we couldn't be more excited!!! :cool1:
We have a reservation for a standard Garden Wing room. Considering we are there for 3 days AFTER the north wing is suppose to close, where do you suppose they'll put us? Do you think they'll put us in a rennovated room in the south wing or upgrade us to a tower room? Thoughts? :confused3

Welcome to Miami Beach, ladies and gentlemen....everything is cheaper than it looks....

I am excited already!!!!!!

I found the designs & info on http://www.gwathmey-siegel.com/

They're an archetectural design firm who has done other projects for Disney.....

About a day after I posted the info, all reference to the project was removed from their website :confused3

Here's the info that Gwathmey-siegel had with the designs:

Contemporary Disney Vacation Club
Resort Timeshare Condominiums
Lake Buena Vista, FL
Status: In design
Completion Date: 2008

When I found the pics, I first posted on The Dis (DVC boards), but I also emailed the info to a couple of other sites that I frequent......

We looked into buying a DVC when Disney was building them at OKW.
But I decided liked the regular Disney resorts better.

I always said if Disney would build a DVC on the monorail we would buy one.
I talked to DH last night and if this rumor becomes a reality we will buy a DVC at the Contemporary!

The only downside is------------ I will have to give up my title of All Star Goddess. :sad1:

I don't think it would be a good idea to do this. I can't believe that Disney would tear down part of an original Resort. Plus it just does not look right. It takes attention away from the monorail going through the tower. Right now it looks very nice... you have big tower with monorail going through it with two smaller buindings to the side.
